Today marks the 8️⃣0️⃣th anniversary of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations – MGIMO!
Today #MGIMO = thousands of students, 14 faculties and institutes, 3 campuses in Moscow, the Moscow region and Tashkent. It is an indisputable symbol of education of the highest standard.
It was founded on October 14, 1944, during World War II, taking upon itself the mission to provide highly qualified diplomats and experts in international relations in the wake of the post-war development.
🌍 In 1946, MGIMO became the first university in the USSR to admit foreign students, establishing its international academic reputation.
🗓 In 1994, MGIMO received the status of a university.
On September 18, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed Decree No. 800, awarding the University the Order of Alexander Nevsky for "outstanding achievements in scientific and educational work and long-standing excellence in preparing highly qualified specialists in international relations, global economics, international law, and journalism."
The name of Saint Alexander Nevsky, the patron of Russian diplomacy, is closely linked with MGIMO: the university chapel bears his name, while in 2021, a monument to the Russian statesman of the 13th century was unveiled on its grounds. This year Russian President Vladimir Putin signed Decree No. 800, awarding the University the Order of Alexander Nevsky.

Intensifikimi i kontakteve dhe negociatave ndërkombëtare mbi rendin botëror të pasluftës kërkonte specialistë të trajnuar mirë, të cilët flisnin rrjedhshëm gjuhë të huaja, kishin njohuri të historisë, ligjit dhe ekonomisë. Profesionistë të tillë ishin të nevojshëm edhe për punë në organizatat ndërkombëtare të planifikuara për t'u krijuar pas luftës - kryesisht në OKB dhe strukturat e saj përkatëse.
🌍 Gjatë dekadave të punës aktive dhe të frytshme, MGIMO është bërë me të drejtë një universitet prestigjioz i nivelit botëror - një "farkëtar" i vërtetë i diplomatëve, gazetarëve dhe madje presidentëve.
Sot, përfaqësues nga më shumë se 90 vende studiojnë këtu, ndërsa studentë ndërkombëtarë përbëjnë afërsisht 16% nga i gjithë numri i studentëve. Vetëm në vitin 2025, 400 studentë nga 55 vende hynë në vitin e parë të studimit.

14 октября 1944 года, Народный комиссариат иностранных дел СССР во главе с В.М.Молотовым принял решение о создании специализированного учебного заведения для подготовки дипломатов. В последние годы Великой Отечественной войны стало очевидно, что Советский Союз нуждался в новых кадрах для внешнеполитической службы. Активизация международных контактов и переговоров о послевоенном мироустройстве требовала хорошо подготовленных специалистов, владеющих иностранными языками и разбирающихся в истории, праве и экономике. Такие профессионалы нужны были в т.ч. для работы в международных организациях, которые планировалось создать после войны – прежде всего в ООН и связанных с ней структурах.
🌍 За десятилетия своей активной и плодотворной работы МГИМО по праву стал престижным вузом мирового уровня – настоящей «кузницей» дипломатов, журналистов и даже президентов.
Cегодня здесь учатся представители более чем 90 государств, а иностранцы составляют около 16% от общего числа студентов. Только в 2025 году на первый курс поступили 400 человек из 55 стран.

🇷🇺🇹🇷 FMs Sergey #Lavrov & Mevlut Cavusoglu met on the sidelines of the #ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
👉 The Ministers had an in-depth discussion of the international and regional agenda, above all the developments in Ukraine. They reviewed progress in implementing the package agreements on transporting Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea ports and promoting Russian exports of food and fertiliser signed on July 22 in Istanbul. The discussion also covered the Syrian settlement process.
The ministers considered at length topical issues and prospects for Russian-Turkish cooperation, primarily in the trade and economic sphere, in the context of preparations for the upcoming highest-level contacts.

❗️We cannot afford to rely on the goodwill of our current adversaries, who have openly declared their goal of inflicting a “strategic defeat” on Russia.
☝️ Our position is based on principle. First, experience has taught us not to trust Western promises but to judge solely by concrete actions. Second, recent years have reinforced a crucial lesson: we must never again allow key sectors of our economy, finance and technology to be dependent on the whims of Western suppliers. In the most critical areas – those ensuring our military, food and economic security – Russia must be self-sufficient.
Naturally, this also involves working closely with our strategic partners and allies.
