Career Catfishing: Why More Young Professionals Don't Show Up on Their First Day A new trend called "career catfishing" is gaining popularity on TikTok. This happens when a candidate accepts a job offer, signs a contract, but then chooses not to show up for work, opting for another offer instead. In English, this is also known as "office ghosting." Research shows that up to 34% of Gen Z have admitted to accepting a job offer and not showing up at least once. The reasons vary: they want to find a better option, feel disappointed with the conditions, or lack contact with the employer after signing the documents. This trend is not happening for no reason. Young professionals are facing high competition in the job market, instability, layoffs, and a lack of transparency from companies. As a result, trust and loyalty are decreasing. HR experts emphasize that to reduce these situations, employers should focus more on onboarding, open communication, and supporting candidates before they start work.
