It shows how events (like losing a job) and family resources (money, support from friends) can influence a family. Important sources of stress are job loss, divorce, death of a loved one, health problems, and money. Understanding this theory is useful because it helps families deal with stress better. To reduce stress, families can have meetings, ask for help from professionals, take time to relax, create cozy places for meditation, and ask for help.
