⚡️Comment by Aide to the President Yury Ushakov following President Vladimir Putin’s videoconference with President of China Xi Jinping(February 4, 2026)
Read in full
💬Yury Ushakov: Friends, I would like to brief you on the substantive negotiations between President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, held via videoconference. <...>
The Leaders, in a friendly and trusting manner, summarised the outcomes of the past year and thoroughly discussed plans for the development of Russia-China relations in the current year. <...>
Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping agreed that it is necessary to maintain permanent bilateral consultation mechanisms across all channels – the security councils, foreign ministries, and defence agencies – to complement their personal communication. This pertains to the swift alignment and coordination of approaches on current matters, including sensitive ones, to ensure timely responses to emerging challenges and threats. <...>
Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping once again noted that the comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between our two countries are at an unprecedented level, are based on equality and mutual benefit, are not directed against any third parties, and are not subject to short-term political considerations. <...>
📄 On July 16, Russia and China will mark an important date: the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China. This foundational document for international relations, which remains fully relevant and in tune with the spirit of the times, has been automatically extended for a further five-year period.
During the conversation, President Xi Jinping invited Vladimir Putin to pay an official visit to China in the first half of this year. The invitation was accepted with gratitude, and the dates and details will be agreed separately.
The Chinese Leader also invited the President of Russia to take part in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting, to be held in November in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. Russia supports the work of China’s APEC chairmanship, and our President will, of course, be ready to attend the meeting in Shenzhen. <...>
📈 The Leaders paid considerable attention to trade and economic cooperation. It was also mentioned that despite a minor decline due to a number of objective and subjective factors, bilateral trade has been considerably above $200 billion for three years in a row. It is common knowledge that China remains our leading foreign trade partner. <...>
Regarding foreign policy issues, the President of Russia and the President of China emphasised the importance of Russian-Chinese cooperation at multilateral platforms, such as the #UN, the #SCO, #BRICS, #APEC and #G20.
The Sides reaffirmed the common course for creating a just multilateral world order based on international law.
Overall, Moscow and Beijing have been working in coordination with each other on the international stage. It was pointed out that the sides’ positions on the overwhelming majority of international issues are similar or fully coincide. Of course, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping also exchanged views on their countries’ relations with the US. Their approaches almost fully coincide, which is evident from their attitude to the US President’s initiative for creating the Board of Peace.
Regarding the contacts our countries had with the Donald Trump administration — the Leaders believe that there is a window of opportunity in this regard. In particular, the President of China voiced his support for the ongoing talks in Abu Dhabi within the trilateral working group on security matters. <...>
☝️Cooperation between Moscow and Beijing operates as a powerful, constructive and stabilising factor in the world, while the Russia-China nexus effectively enhances global security, and benefits the Global Majority, as well as the people of both Russia and China.

🇮🇷🇰🇿New opportunities for expanding Iran-Kazakhstan relations
Recent high-level visits have solidified a strategic shift, transforming longstanding diplomatic ties into a practical multidimensional partnership centered on transit corridors, trade diversification, and regional connectivity
✍️Author: Samyar Rostami
A political observer and senior researcher in international relations
➡️The official visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Kazakhstan in December 2025, resulting in 14 new agreements, marks a decisive step. Both nations, bound by historical ties and the absence of major disputes, are leveraging their geopolitical positions. For landlocked Kazakhstan, Iran is a vital gateway to South Asia and global markets. For Iran, Kazakhstan represents a stable partner in Central Asia and a key node in north-south transit corridors, aligning with both countries' regionalist foreign policies.
Given existing capacities, political will, and a clear trade roadmap, a bilateral trade volume of $2–3 billion is achievable in the short term
➡️Logistics and transit form the cornerstone of this partnership. Both countries are integral to the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), with a joint roadmap aiming to boost capacity to 20 million tons by 2030. Key projects include developing a transport terminal at Iran’s Shahid Rajaee port, creating joint industrial parks in free zones, and establishing new rail links connecting Almaty to Istanbul via Tehran. This transforms Iran from a neighbor into Kazakhstan’s essential artery to seaports.
➡️Beyond transit, cooperation is expanding into agriculture and food security. Kazakhstan, a major wheat producer, can supply raw materials, while Iran offers processed foods and agricultural technology. Joint projects in processing, storage, and extraterritorial cultivation are planned. Economic ties are also deepening, with over 600 Iranian companies registered in Kazakhstan and bilateral trade growing 44% in the first three quarters of 2025 to over $310 million.
🟦The potential is significant, but obstacles remain: underdeveloped logistics infrastructure, lack of a common banking mechanism, and complex financial transfers. However, with the political will demonstrated, the implementation of a free trade agreement, and infrastructure modernization, a bilateral trade volume of $2-3 billion is achievable in the short term. This partnership is poised to become a central axis of Eurasian connectivity.

🗓 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrovattended the 14th Ministerial Meeting of the Member States of the East Asia Summit (#EAS) and the 31st session of the ASEAN Regional Forum (#ARF) which were held in Vientiane on July 27.
During discussions on current issues related to the situation in the Asia Pacific Region, the Russian Minister emphasised the importance of efforts to build an open and indivisible architecture of Eurasian security as one of the foundations of the multipolar international order. Apart from #ASEAN, the #SCO and the #EAEU are making a contribution to its strengthening.
❗️ He also indicated the risks to peace and stability in Asia introduced by NATO and the US-created selective bloc mechanisms. He reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to reinforcing ASEAN’s central role in the regional security system through the build-up of an equitable dialogue and practical interaction.
Participants in the EAS meeting discussed preparations for the 19th East Asia Summit scheduled to be held in Vientiane in October 2024. At previous summits, Russia proposed initiatives to create a regional epidemic response mechanism and to secure economic growth in the Asia Pacific Region by promoting tourism cooperation. Russia also suggested focusing on the development of remote territories as a possible option for long-term cooperation.
☝️ The ARF session focused on building up the ARF’s potential in counterterrorism, emergency response, and #ICT security. Russia stressed that it is unacceptable to reformat the ARF mandate, restrict certain member states’ access to its activities, or block mutually beneficial cooperation projects for political reasons.
The session approved the ARF’s working plans on countering terrorism and transnational crime for 2024-2026, emergency response for 2024-2027, and a Ministerial Statement on strengthening regional cooperation in ferry service safety.
🤝 The participants also summed up the results of the Russian-Indonesian co-chairmanship of the ARF Inter-Sessional Meetings on ICT security in 2022-2024. A number of practical initiatives to combat cybercrime was implemented during that period.

Europe will eventually have to choose between the US and BRICS
Read in full
Key points:
💬 Rather than setting out to organize a genuine multipolar system based on mutual recognition of each nation’s core interests, <...> the US proceeded to enhance its exclusive and comprehensive dominance.
• This year, at the #BRICS Summit in Russia’s Kazan, the group will for the first time include the leaders of Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Another major Eurasian institution is the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (#SCO) <...> to be admitted soon. A number of other Eurasian countries, from Turkey to Thailand and from the Malpes to Mongolia, have voiced their intention to join either BRICS or SCO.
• To counter that trend among the members of what we increasingly call the World Majority, Washington has raised the profile of NATO in the Indo-Pacific; strengthened its Cold War-era bilateral and trilateral alliances in the Western Pacific, and founded a new one, #AUKUS, in the South Pacific.
❗️ All these multiple arrangements are completely dominated by the US and are aimed at containing and deterring Washington’s designated primary adversaries: China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea – with one overriding goal of defending America’s hegemonic position.
• In contrast to that, neither BRICS nor the SCO is dominated by a single power, or a tandem/triumvirate of nations. BRICS’s recent expansion also suggests that it does not aspire to become a version of the West’s G7, as an elitist steering group, or directoire, for the non-Western world.
• Neither BRICS nor the SCO is overtly anti-American or anti-Western: their main focus is internal rather than external, and they have their work cut out for them.
• The emerging mutual security space within the SCO will make the continent – minus Western Europe, for the time being – far more stable, whether in terms of strategic stability in major-power relations, regional security systems, or the risks of terrorism.
☝️ Eventually, the countries of Western Europe – or far western Eurasia, if you like – will have to make a choice between staying in the US orbit as America’s power continues to shrink, or reaching out east to a vast and vibrant new world next door.
📺 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’sgreetings and video message on Diplomats’ Day (February 10, 2026)
💬 Friends,
Today marks Diplomats’ Day, our professional holiday.
I would like to use this occasion to wish a happy holiday to all Russian diplomats who are working at the Central Office and territorial offices, and diplomats fulfilling their duty abroad.
The history of Russian diplomacy spans many centuries and follows every stage of Russia becoming stronger as a state. Times change, but our spiritual and moral values — sincere, dedicated, and selfless devotion to the Fatherland, and firm commitment to the ideals of truth and justice — remain unshakeable.
We are rightfully proud of the achievements of our outstanding predecessors. We honour the courage of the staff of the People’s Commissariat for Foreign Affairs who, during the tumultuous years of the Great Patriotic War, took arms to defend the Motherland.
Their immortal feat stands as a benchmark for Foreign Ministry personnel and staff of subordinate institutions participating in the special military operation.
Other ministerial staff members are also involved and are helping the front line soldiers and their families, and supporting those affected by crimes committed by Ukrainian neo-Nazis.
Today, as we are witnessing another turning point in history, Russian diplomacy continues to do everything within its power to ensure safe and favourable external conditions for Russia’s steady domestic development and for improving the quality of life of its people.
In many ways, our consistent and balanced foreign policy course sets the trajectory of global transformations, thus facilitating the emergence of a new multipolar world order.
We seek to further develop honest and equitable international cooperation based on mutual understanding, trust, and neighbourliness.
Following President Putin’s initiative, we are working to establish, across the Eurasian region, architecture of equal and indivisible security and extensive practical cooperation. In this context, we attach particular importance to the conclusion and implementation of bilateral agreements, including our treaties on security guarantees with Belarus and on comprehensive strategic partnership with the DPRK and Iran.
We continue to expand relations across multiple areas with the World Majority, among them countries such as China, India, and other like-minded countries, our strategic partners and allies, primarily within the #CSTO, the #EAEU, and the #CIS, as well as the #SCO and #BRICS.
Countering neo-colonial practices of all kinds ranging from unilateral coercive measures to military interventions remains firmly in our focus.
In this context, we reaffirm our solidarity with the peoples of Venezuela and Cuba. We are convinced that only they can determine their own future.
☝️ The country’s leadership and Russian society hold our work to high standards. We are required to demonstrate discipline and dedication, as well as a passionate and creative approach to our duties.
I trust that you will continue to work honourably for the good of the Fatherland and to contribute your share to addressing large-scale foreign policy goals set by the President.
On this day, we express special gratitude to former ministerial employees, who taught us the fundamentals of diplomacy by their example. Many of them, to the extent of their abilities, remain active in the close-knit diplomatic ranks.
By all means, I would like to separately thank all the relatives and loved ones of our employees. Your unconditional support gives us strength and keeps us focused. It is especially important for those who carry out their diplomatic service far from the Motherland.
Once again, happy Diplomats’ Day to all. I wish you excellent health, well-being, and new accomplishments for the benefit of the Fatherland.

🎙Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during talks with Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar(November 17, 2025, Moscow)
💬 We are pleased to welcome you to Moscow as you take part in a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of Government.
We regularly use the opportunities offered by multilateral events to talk and to sync our agendas on matters that are discussed and advanced during top-level meetings between President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.
🇷🇺🇮🇳This is our sixth meeting this year which shows that relations between Russia and India are relations of a particularly privileged strategic partnership and are our top foreign policy priority.
We maintain a substantive political dialogue; the heads of security councils, foreign affairs and defence ministries, and economic agencies meet on a regular basis in addition to top-level summits. Our treaty and legal framework and numerous and highly effective interstate cooperation mechanisms are being constantly updated and improved.
At this point, we are placing special emphasis on creating favorable conditions for our economic operators to work in each other’s markets. The list of bilateral trade items continues to expand, and supply chains that are impervious to illegitimate external influence continue to be built.
The International North-South Transport Corridor and the Northern Sea Route are the most promising projects in which Russia and India are deeply involved.
We can boast impressive results and, arguably, have even more favorable prospects in energy, industry, agriculture, military and military-technical cooperation, as well as in scientific-technical and cultural ties.
We closely cooperate on the international stage, including within the #UN, #BRICS, the #SCO, and the #G20. Without a doubt, our interaction contributes to strengthening regional and global stability and enhancing the effectiveness of these groups and organizations.
You have a rich and diverse programme in Moscow. As I understand, you will focus in particular on bilateral relations at your meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. Today, however, we can address some of bilateral issues and focus mostly on cooperation in the international arena as part of the agreements between our respective foreign ministries.
Your visit comes at an opportune moment, with the Russian-Indian Summit in New Delhi just three weeks away.
