🌐Today is International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace. On December 12, 2018, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution A/RES/73/127 on marking this day. The document notes that the International Day aims to promote UN values and to reaffirm the trust of the world’s nations in the goals and principles of the UN Charter. 🇷🇺🇺🇳 Russia is invariably committed to the policy of upholding multilateralism and the UN’s leading role in global affairs and is actively involved in efforts to overhaul the UN and to adapt it to new international realities. This is particularly topical today when a narrow group of states advancing the rules-based order concept exerts unprecedented pressure on the UN and other multilateral institutions. ✍️ Under the Russian Foreign Policy Concept, approved on March 31, 2023, Russia intends to prioritise efforts to reinstate the UN’s role as a central coordination mechanism in coordinating the interests of UN member states. At the same time, one of the main aims of national foreign policy is to strengthen the potential of multilateral regional associations and integration organisations involving Russia. For example, this refers to measures to enhance the international role of #BRICS, the #SCO, the #CIS, the #EAEU, the #CSTO, #RIC and other interstate associations and international organisations, as well as mechanisms with significant Russian involvement. ⏰ Today, on April 24, FM Sergey Lavrov will take part in one of the key events of Russia’s presidency of the UN Security Council, specifically, the open debate on "Effective multilateralism through the defence of the principles of the Charter of the United Nations." The debate will be streamed live on all our feeds. #UNCharterIsOurRules#Multilateralism

🎙Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks at an extended meeting with the participation of the Foreign Ministers from the Global South and the Global East(June 11, 2024, Nizhny Novgorod) 💬 Welcome to Russia and Nizhny Novgorod, a beautiful city, the beauty of which and the feelings of the residents of which you had the chance to enjoy yesterday. Today’s meeting reflects the efforts of #BRICS members to develop ties with the stakeholder countries from the Global South and the Global East, the countries of the Global Majority, in order to identify solutions to the most pressing global issues faced by all members of the international community without exception. We are witnessing a profound transformation of international relations triggered by the formation of a fairer and polycentric system of international order, which would reflect the entire gamut of cultural and civilisational diversity of the modern-day world and ensure the right of every nation to determine its own future and its own path of development. The stronger voice of the Global Majority, i.e. the countries of Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, which are not part of the collective West, is a major trend now. Only by uniting our ranks can we truly effectively promote a vision of a just future shared by all of us. In this context, it is important to strengthen the role of the country-to-country groups that advocate balanced and equitable approaches to international development. We are talking about the formats which reflect the principles of equitable cooperation in practice rather than in words. These include, along with BRICS, #SCO, #AfricanUnion, #EAEU, #CIS, #ASEAN, #LAS, #CELAC, #GCC, #IORA and many other organisations. The chairs of many of these organisations are here with us. We believe it is important to establish contacts between all such integration entities which operate at regional levels, on the one hand, and our global association BRICS, on the other hand. This will promote gradual and mutually respectful harmonisation of approaches to the issues facing all associations. The strengthening the international legal framework and collective decision-making on global issues is now at the forefront. Only in this case will those decisions be effective and legitimate. This principle is laid down in the UN Charter. Unfortunately, the collective West’s decisions, especially in the economy, finance, trade and more, increasingly fail to comply with the fundamental principles of the UN Charter. Our countries have largely overlapping approaches to reforming the system of multilateral institutions, including the UN and the UN Security Council, as well as addressing the post-pandemic recovery of the global economy and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals approved by the UN General Assembly. 🤝 We look forward to discussing all these issues today.

🇿🇦 This year’s opening meeting of the #G20 Foreign Ministers as part of the debut presidency of South Africa – a friendly country whose stance is in accord with #Russia’s – will take place in Johannesburg on February 20-21, a landmark event not only for Pretoria, but also for the entire African continent, which will host G20 events for the first time. 🇷🇺 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov plans to lead the Russian delegation. It is expected that most of the members of this major economic forum, as well as a wide range of invited states and international organisations, will be represented at a similar level. ☝️ The meeting will open with an address by President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, which will set the general tone for discussing global challenges and threats. The discussion will particularly focus on the international situation, which is alarmingly deteriorating under the impact of the confrontational policy by the neoliberal Western elites. The participants will consider the current integrity and effective functioning of the global economic system. The priorities stated by the South African presidency are designed to encourage economic growth, reduce inequality and imbalances, and ensure equitable access to financing for countries in the Global South. 🤝 The South African presidency theme highlighting “solidarity, equality and sustainability” will provide solid framework for the consultations, essentially continuing in the same vein as its predecessors in 2022-2024 – Indonesia, India and Brazil, all of them Global Majority countries. In particular, this refers to the G20’s significant contribution during this period to strengthening the foundations of the multipolar world and making global economic institutions more democratic in the interests of new non-Western centres of influence, primarily the expanded #BRICS group. ❗️The upcoming anniversaries, such as the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II and the foundation of the #UN, as well as the 65th anniversary of the Russia-sponsored Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples adopted by the UN General Assembly to ensure Africa’s independence, should be seen as key benchmarks for the exchange of views. 👉 In his remarks, the Minister will provide a detailed analysis of the international situation underscoring the root causes of the current crisis, and outline specific steps to overcome the destructive phenomena. The Russian side will reaffirm its stance in favour of preserving the United Nations’ central role in global affairs. We will speak in support of strict compliance with the principles of the UN Charter in their entirety and interconnection. We will insist that there is no alternative to respectful interstate cooperation and ensuring equal and indivisible security for all. We will call for keeping the global economy open, rejecting trade wars, illegitimate sanctions and other unfair competition practices. We will cite examples of supranational associations that practice honest and productive cooperation without diktat or blackmail, such as the #EAEU, the #SCO and #BRICS. We will share the details of implementing the Russia-sponsored Greater Eurasian Partnership initiative. The Minister is expected to meet with several counterparts on the sidelines of the meeting. #G20SouthAfrica#BetterAfricaBetterWorld#solidarity#equality#sustainability

He stressed the need for a new, equal and indivisible security system – one where “no country strengthens its security at the expense of others.” 🔹Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov underlined the historic momentum behind multipolarity and the growing influence of new centers of power in Eurasia, Africa and Latin America. He highlighted Russia–China ties and called BRICS a model for constructive global cooperation across cultures and continents. 🔹Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu noted the forum’s success as proof that Russia is not isolated – but rather a key platform for dialogue. ✒️Ambassador Albert P. Khorev's Interview with the TASS News Agency(February 9, 2026) Key points: #Priorities Currently, we are prioritizing contacts in the field of regional security and the fight against international terrorism. We are also coordinating efforts in multilateral forums, primarily the UN and the SCO. Cooperation between the cities and regions of our respective countries also shows promise. Moscow, the Republic of Tatarstan, and Primorsky Krai in Russia, as well as the provinces of Punjab and Sindh in Pakistan, have already expressed interest in this regard. #Education#Science#Culture We are paying special attention to strengthening ties in education, science, and culture. We are actively working to promote the Russian language in Pakistan, including through the federal project "Russian Teachers Abroad." We also facilitate the organization of joint scientific conferences and cultural and sporting events. #PakistanStillMills#Insulin In the coming years, it is crucial to promote mutual trade, develop reliable alternative payment mechanisms, and implement large-scale joint projects. These projects include the revival of the Pakistan Still Mills, establishing rail connections between Russia and Pakistan, collaborating on hydropower, and creating joint ventures to produce medicines, including insulin. #Oil Pakistan is interested in cooperating with our country in oil exploration and production. Russia is ready to help Pakistan strengthen its energy sovereignty. We already have positive experience in this area. It was the USSR that helped Pakistan establish the state-owned oil and gas company, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, in the 1960s, and it assisted in discovering a number of oil and gas fields in Pakistan. #SCO We acknowledge the constructive collaboration with our Pakistani partners within the SCO. Ensuring regional security and combating terrorism and organized transnational crime are our priorities. #BRICS#NewDevelopmentBank Russia welcomes Pakistan's interest in joining BRICS. One practical step toward integrating Pakistan into BRICS could be Islamabad's accession to the New Development Bank, which finances infrastructure projects in developing countries. #DiplomatsDay On February 10, the Russian Foreign Service celebrates Diplomats' Day. On this festive occasion, I would like to wish my colleagues in Moscow and at foreign missions happiness, good health, endless inspiration, and success in promoting Russia's position on the world stage. #RussiaPakistan

#Outcomes2025 ✍️Russia’s Foreign Ministry’s answers to media questions received for Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s news conference on the performance of Russian diplomacy in 2025 Read in full Key points #UkraineCrisis#KievRegimeCrimes • [Following the Kiev regime attack on Russia’s President’s state residence in the Novgorod Region] many countries could once again see the terrorist nature of Zelensky’s clique <…> Terrorism in any form is unacceptable and certainly does not help achieve a political and diplomatic solution to the conflict. Kiev is only making matters worse for itself with its recklessness and impeding efforts to find possible compromises. • The deployment of military units, facilities, warehouses and other infrastructure of the Western countries in Ukraine <…> will be considered as foreign intervention that directly threatens Russia’s security. #Multipolarity • The situation surrounding Denmark’s northern autonomous territory vividly demonstrates the bankruptcy of the so-called “rules-based international order” so dear to many in the West. • Cooperation is being actively forged in formats with limited membership. Alongside the CIS, mechanisms such as the #EAEU, #BRICS, #SCO, #ASEAN, #LAS, #GCC, the #AfricanUnion, and #CELAC, among others, maintain momentum. <...> We regard these developments as part of the historically determined process of shaping a multipolar world order, which will lead to the further consolidation of several global and an even greater number of regional centres of power and development. #InternationalSecurity • The international security system is indeed undergoing a period of profound transformation today. This is driven by two primary factors: the objective processes shaping a polycentric world order, and attempts to substitute international law with the law of the mightiest. • Relying on force as the primary instrument in foreign policy and undermining of the existing institutional and legal framework of international relations risks chaos and escalating confrontation, <...> increase of the likelihood of direct clashes between major states, including nuclear powers. Under these conditions, developments become highly unpredictable. • Russia firmly opposes this scenario. We are capable of defending our interests – history provides ample evidence of this. Our country has traditionally played a stabilising and balancing role in global affairs. #RussiaUS • Following Donald Trump’s return to the White House, the Presidents of Russia and the US <...> agreed to maintain a high tempo of work. This was founded upon a mutual understanding of the necessity to rid ourselves as soon as possible of the “toxic legacy” of the Joe Biden administration. <...> Our American counterparts made it clear: great powers, when their national interests diverge <...> must not allow differences to escalate into confrontation. • President Donald Trump is perhaps one of the few Western politicians who not only immediately rejected imposing meaningless and destructive preconditions for substantive dialogue with Moscow on the Ukraine crisis but also publicly addressed its root causes. • It was precisely the elimination of these root causes that was discussed in Anchorage on August 15, 2025. <...> We anticipate that, provided the original Anchorage formula is preserved and Russian interests are handled with due care, we can, sooner or later, come close to a negotiated resolution of the Ukraine issue. #Iran • We strongly condemn subversive external interference in Iran’s domestic political processes. <...> Threats of new military strikes against the Islamic Republic of Iran are absolutely unacceptable. • Those who intend to exploit foreign-inspired unrest as a pretext to repeat the aggression against Iran <...> must clearly understand the catastrophic consequences such actions would have for the situation in the Middle East and for international security as a whole.
