🇷🇺🇮🇩 On the sidelines of the 28th St Petersburg International Economic Forum, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putinheld a meeting with President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, who is in Russia on an official visit (June 19, 2025)
💬Vladimir Putin: Mr President, friends. I am happy to welcome you to St Petersburg.
We previously met in Moscow before your inauguration, and now, during your official visit, we have the opportunity to discuss our bilateral relationsin greater detail.
Tomorrow, we will participate in the plenary session of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, where you will be our guest of honour. This forum has long served as a valuable platform, bringing together a wide range of entrepreneurs and political leaders from around the world.
🤝 Our relations with Indonesia are steadily advancing, with trade turnover on the rise and strong prospects across several key and promising areas of cooperation. These include agriculture, space exploration, energy, and military-technical cooperation. The scope of our partnership is substantial and continues to expand.
Indonesia is now a full-fledged member of #BRICS, and we very much hope — in fact, I am sure of it — that Indonesia will contribute significantly to the development and work of this organisation, which is becoming more and more influential in international affairs.
We are very pleased to see you, Mr President. Welcome.

🎙Media statements by Russia's President Vladimir Putin following Russian-Indonesian talks(June 19, 2025)
💬Vladimir Putin: Mr President, ladies and gentlemen. It is with great pleasure that we welcome the President of the Republic of Indonesia to Russia.
President Prabowo Subianto’s official visit coincides with his participation in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum. We are grateful to the President for accepting our invitation and for his forthcoming address at tomorrow’s Forum plenary session, which this year is dedicated to the theme “Shared Values as the Foundation of Growth in a Multipolar World.”
Mr President visited Russia on multiple occasions, including during his tenure as the Minister of Defence of his country. Last July, we met with him in Moscow, after his election as the head of state.
I would like to emphasise that Indonesia is one of our key partners in the Asia-Pacific region. Our relations continue to develop steadily on a mutually beneficial basis, grounded in longstanding traditions of friendship and mutual assistance.
🤝 This year marks the 75th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between our nations. At that time, our country played an active role in the establishment of Indonesian statehood and the strengthening of the young Republic’s international standing. <...> Many facilities built during that period continue to operate successfully to this day, benefiting the Indonesian people.
Russia is committed to the progressive development of cooperation and relations with Indonesia across all sectors. Russia played a significant role in facilitating Indonesia’s accession to #BRICS as a full member. We welcome Indonesia’s assumption of membership rights effective January 1.
Given Indonesia’s weight and influence in contemporary global politics and economy, this step was undoubtedly the correct one and will bringsubstantial added value to both BRICS and all its cooperation mechanisms.
Today’s talks were substantive. We discussed a broad spectrum of current issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as key topics on the international agenda.
The declaration on strategic partnership, which we approved with Mr President following the talks, sets out ambitious and responsibleobjectives for deepening Russian-Indonesian relations across multiple domains, with particular emphasis on trade and economic cooperation. Several intergovernmental agreements and interagency arrangements were also concluded.
I would like to emphasise that Indonesia is one of our leading South Asian foreign trade partners.
📈 Last year, bilateral trade was up by 2.5 percent at $4.3 billion, and in the first four months of this year it grew by another 40 percent. <...>
We are also open to cooperation with our Indonesian partners in harnessing peaceful nuclear energy. This could include joint projects using nuclear technologies for non-energy purposes in medicine and agriculture, as well as training personnel for Indonesia’s national nuclear industry. We have an interest and are willing to collaborate in many high-tech sectors, such as outer space exploration, digitalisation, smart city technologies, and artificial intelligence.
We are actively cooperating in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. <...> We are working on projects in the professional training as well with over 500 Indonesian students studying in our country. <...>
🌐 We certainly also discussed pressing issues on the international agenda. We noted that our countries’ positions on most of them either coincide or are very close. Our nations uphold the principles of the rule of international law and sovereignty, and we jointly advocate peaceful and sustainable development of the Asia-Pacific region. We also coordinate joint efforts at the UN and other international platforms.
I would like to once again highly commend today’s productive work with Mr President. Undoubtedly, this visit will further strengthen the entire framework of Russian-Indonesian strategic partnership for the benefit of our peoples.

🎙 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’sopening remarks at talks with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono(Moscow, June 17, 2025)
💬 Dear Mr. Minister,
Colleagues,
We are delighted to welcome you to Moscow.
It is a pleasure to host you for the third time in the past year. In the summer of 2024, we participated in our Leaders’ meeting at the Kremlin, in autumn, we travelled to Kazan for the #BRICS events, and this past winter, you met with First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov.
Today’s talks are taking place in the run-up to another Summit meeting between our Presidents. They will meet the day after tomorrow in St Petersburg, ahead of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Several months ago, we celebrated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries. Over this period, diplomatic interaction has consistently reaffirmed the special nature of our friendly and trust-based ties, reflecting shared approaches to key international issues.
🤝 We appreciate our Indonesian partners’ constructive and substantive approach – guided by national interest – to advancing bilateral relations across trade, economic, humanitarian, political, and security cooperation.
We are pleased with our close coordination in the international arena, which is gaining momentum and taking on new forms. We welcome your country’s accession to BRICS as a full member. We are satisfied with our cooperation within the UN, the G20, and the Russia-ASEAN Dialogue Partnership.
We hope to discuss each of our cooperation tracks today to report our assessments to the Presidents of Russia and Indonesia.

🇷🇺🇮🇩On April 13, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto held talks at the Kremlin.
The agenda focused on the current state and prospects for deepening the Russia-Indonesia strategic partnership, as well as pressing international and regional issues.
💬Vladimir Putin: Dear friend,
I am very pleased that our contacts are regular in nature and underscore the special character of our relations. We recently signed a declaration to that effect, and this special character is indeed being filled with concrete substance.
The strategic nature of Russia-Indonesia relations is evident first and foremost, of course, in the economic sphere. Last year, our trade turnover grew by 12.5%.
At the beginning of 2026, there was unfortunately some slowdown, but our intergovernmental commission is working actively. I hope that your visit will help us find the necessary solutions so that the situation remains stable and, by the end of 2026, shows continued growth.
Our colleagues on both Sides, as well as the two of us personally, have repeatedly highlighted the most promising areas of cooperation – energy, space, agriculture, industrial cooperation and pharmaceuticals.
We also attach great importance to developing humanitarian ties, including in culture and education. And, of course, our Foreign Ministries are working intensively and in close contact with each other across all international platforms.
Indonesia has become a full member of #BRICS, which also opens up another avenue for cooperation, just as relations between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union do.
***
I believe your visit is especially timely – both in light of the developments taking place in the world and from the standpoint of strengthening and intensifying our bilateral ties.
Once again, thank you for being here in Moscow today.
It is especially meaningful to receive Easter greetings from the Head of State of the country with the world’s largest Muslim population. Russia is a multi-confessional nation, and together with our brothers and sisters of other faiths – including Muslims – we also mark their holidays.

🇷🇺🇮🇩Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks during a joint news conference with Foreign Minister of Indonesia Sugiono following their talks(Moscow, June 17, 2025)
💬Sergey Lavrov: As usual, we held talks with Foreign Minister of Indonesia Sugiono in an atmosphere of trust, and in an open, friendly and constructive manner.
Once again, we noted the fact that our two countries marked 75 years of Russia-Indonesia diplomatic relations in February 2025. These relations have been gathering momentum lately. We have established regular trust-based political dialogue at the highest and high levels. There are also regular inter-parliamentary exchanges. Today, we expressed our shared interest in having our respective political parties work with certain neighbouring countries and other nations. In addition, the ruling parties of both Russia and Indonesia could contribute to various frameworks which shape our strategic partnership.
We had a detailed discussion of our bilateral agenda, as well as regional and international affairs. Both our countries are looking forward to stepping up cooperation in defence and security matters, in particular in cybersecurity, law enforcement, including fighting cybercrime, drug trafficking, and extremism. We also spoke out in favour of consolidating the legal framework governing our relations.
We noted that cooperation between Russian and Indonesian navies for holding joint exercises has been gathering momentum. As usual, building on its existing experience and know-how, our country is ready to review any requests our Indonesian friends might have in terms of our military-technical cooperation <...>
Having Indonesia sign a free trade agreement with the EAEU could have a major impact in terms of strengthening economic cooperation with our Indonesian friends. This agreement is about to be finalised. We hope that it will be signed without delay <...>
We pointed out that our positions on the majority of international issues, including the most important current matters, coincide or are similar. I am referring to the situation in the Middle East and the Palestinian territories, and Israel’s attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran. It is necessary for the international community to make every possible effort to calm down and deescalate the situation and promote settlement of any disputes at the negotiating table.
It is delightful that Indonesia has joined BRICS as a full member. We emphasised that our joint work within this framework will help strengthen the multipolar foundations of global politics and economy.
We share an interest in the constructive development of the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, so that any attempts to incite confrontation there fail. Relations between Russia and ASEAN are of great significance in this context. We welcome Jakarta’s resolve to continue to encourage the development of Russia-ASEAN cooperation, in particular in light of the 35th anniversary of our dialogue partnership with the Association, which we will mark next year. We drew the attention of our colleagues to the initiative for creating a Eurasian architecture of equal and indivisible security, which the Russian Federation is promoting jointly with many other countries and which will be open to any country on the continent, unlike the schemes advocated by our Western colleagues in the form of Indo-Pacific strategies.
I expressed gratitude to our friends for their balanced stance on the conflict in Ukraine, for their understanding of the situation and their recognition of the futility of pandering to the attempts to include the Ukrainian issue in the agenda of all international organisations and platforms.

🇮🇩 On August 17, Indonesia marks the 79th Anniversary of Independence.
The Republic of Indonesia was declared in 1945, putting an end to the period of foreign domination that began in the 16th century, when Portugal, Britain, Netherlands and Japan successively sought to take control of the legendary Spice Islands.
🤝 Diplomatic relations between the Soviet Union and Indonesia were established on February 3, 1950. The USSR played an important role in the rise of the new state, providing the archipelago with broad political and economic support.
🇷🇺🇮🇩 Russian-Indonesian ties have always relied on respect and trust. The accumulated potential for mutually beneficial cooperation is evidence of a true partnership between the two countries.
Today, our relations continue to evolve progressively. Moscow and Jakarta maintain an intensive political dialogue, including at the top level. The ministries, parliaments, as well as companies and corporations on both sides have channels for regular interaction. Extensive humanitarian cooperation contributes to strengthening the atmosphere of friendship between the people in our countries.
💬 President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin(July 31, 2024): "Russia and Indonesia share a long-standing friendship that began decades ago. Next year, we will mark 75 years of diplomatic relations between our countries"
🎉 We extend greetings to our Indonesian friends on their national holiday. We wish them peace, prosperity and all the very best!
