🗓 On November 12–14, the annual international conference “Russia and ASEAN in the Asia-Pacific Region: Dynamics of Cooperation, Regional Processes and Global Context”, organized by the ASEAN Centre at MGIMO University, was held in Moscow.
🔹️ This year, the event marked the 15th anniversary of the ASEAN Centre and brought together diplomats, leading scholars, business representatives, and young researchers to discuss key issues related to ASEAN-Russia political, economic, and socio-cultural cooperation.
🔹️ The special guest of honor and keynote speaker was Deputy Secretary-General of #ASEAN for the Political-Security Community H.E. Dato’ Astanah Abdul Aziz. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation H.E. Mr. Andrey Rudenko🇷🇺 also delivered welcoming remarks. Honored guests also included Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia and Strategic Advisor at the Institute for Asian Perspectives H.E. Dr. Path Kosal 🇰🇭, as well as Director of the Institute for Economic Strategy of Vietnam Mr. Le Bo Linh🇻🇳.
🔹️ Participants congratulated the ASEAN Centre on its anniversary and commended its long-standing contribution to the development of ASEAN-Russia relations. Warm congratulations were likewise extended to the Centre by the Secretary-General of ASEAN H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn and the Ambassador of Russia to ASEAN H.E. Mr. Evgeny Zagaynov🇷🇺.

💬 Today, we held substantive and constructive talks with Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim and my colleague, Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan.
🇷🇺🇲🇾 We discussed all aspects of our bilateral cooperation. It is growing at a fast pace in many spheres, namely between the heads of various departments, including the Foreign Ministry, and parliaments, regional governments, political parties, Islamic organisations, business quarters, as well as analytical and educational centres. In short, we have wide-ranging relations. <...>
Malaysia is interested in expanding cooperation in education. About 700 Malaysian students are studying at our universities, most of them at medical departments. Russian and Malaysian universities maintain direct ties. In 2023, they signed over 30 joint documents, in particular, to launch joint educational programmes and projects in the fields of academic mobility, exchanges and the teaching of the Russian and Malay languages. <...>
🌐 We also discussed cooperation on the international stage, primarily at the UN, as well as in #ASEAN. <...>
We also exchanged views on regional matters. Just like all ASEAN countries and the Muslim world as a whole, our Malaysian friends are especially concerned about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and operations in Gaza. We share the opinion that a ceasefire must be coordinated and painful humanitarian issues addressed as soon as possible. Following that, the sides should launch talks on the practical parameters of establishing a Palestinian state.
Malaysia expressed interest in strengthening ties with #BRICS. We wholeheartedly welcome and will provide assistance to this as the group’s chair.
We talked about the situation in Ukraine and expressed gratitude to our Malaysian colleagues for their balanced and non-partisan stand based on understanding the root causes of that crisis created by the Western efforts to draw Ukraine into NATO and turn it into an “anti-Russia.”
✈️ I have invited my colleague to make a reply visit to Russia. I hope that we will be able to continue our communication soon. We have coordinated a plan of consultations between our deputy ministers and other senior officials on a broad range of international issues.

🇷🇺🇰🇭 On July 10, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia Prak Sokhonnmet on the sidelines of the annual ministerial events of the #ASEAN in Kuala Lumpur.
The current state of Russian-Cambodian relations and outlook for trade, economic, investment, scientific, technological and humanitarian cooperation was discussed and views on the key regional and global issues, interaction within multilateral forums and Russia-ASEAN dialogue partnership exchanged.
✍️ Following the meeting, they signed a plan of consultations between the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia for 2025−2027.

🗓 On March 20, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a traditionalmeeting with the ambassadors of #ASEAN member states accredited in Moscow.
In the context of the 35th anniversary of Russia-ASEAN relations that this year marks, the sides engaged in a substantive discussion on advancing #RussiaASEANstrategic partnership across a wide range of areas, including countering common challenges and threats, trade and investment, high-tech and knowledge-intensive industries, digitalisation, energy, and the expansion of business and youth contacts.
The main focus was on putting together anniversary events and agreeing upon a new medium-term policy document.
A thorough exchange of views on international and regional priorities reinforced the importance of Russia-ASEAN dialogue for building stable security and cooperation architecture in the Asia-Pacific region based on respect for international law, equality, and openness.
Prospects for aligning integration processes in Eurasia, strengthening ASEAN-EAEU and ASEAN-SCO cooperation, as well as establishing contacts on the ASEAN-BRICS track, were highlighted.
🤝 The meeting was held in a traditionally friendly atmosphere.

Сегодня отмечается День Маха Пуча, важный буддийский праздник, который отмечается в 🇹🇭🇰🇭🇱🇦🇲🇲Таиланде, Камбодже, Лаосе, Мьянме и других странах Юго-Восточной Азии.
Этот день посвящен событию, когда 1250 монахов собрались, чтобы услышать учения Будды, и является днем, когда Будда изложил основные принципы буддизма.
В Таиланде в этот день люди посещают храмы, приносят подношения и участвуют в свечных процессиях, обходя храмовое здание трижды в почтении к Будде, его учению (Дхарме) и монашескому сообществу (Сангха). Аналогичные обряды проходят и в Камбодже, Лаосе и Мьянме, где верующие молятся, медитируют и приносят подношения, размышляя над учениями Будды.

🗓 On January 27, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrovconvened a customary meeting with the ambassadors of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (#ASEAN) member states accredited in Moscow.
The attendees engaged in a substantive dialogue regarding the execution of resolutions made by the leaders of our nation and the ASEAN 10 nations concerning the advancement of the Russia-ASEAN strategic partnership, alongside the preparation of a new programme document for the medium term.
The primary focus was on initiatives to enhance practical collaboration, including the involvement of the ASEAN Moscow Committee. Steps were delineated to diversify cooperation across the domains of economy, energy, science and high technologies, digital transformation, and the expansion of business and youth exchanges.
The discourse on pressing global and regional matters reaffirmed the alignment of approaches between our country and the Association in constructing a sustainable security framework in the Asia-Pacific region, grounded in the principles of adherence to international law, equality, and openness. Particular attention was directed towards deepening integration within the Eurasian space, fostering ASEAN’s connections with the EAEU and the SCO.
