🌐BRICS Nuclear Energy Platform: shaping the future of global nuclear energy
On 26 September 2025, Moscow hosted the annual conference of the BRICS Nuclear Energy Platform as part of World Atomic Week (WAW-2025). The event brought together leaders and partners from Brazil, Vietnam, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, China, South Africa, the UAE, Ethiopia, Turkey, and the ASEAN Energy Hub to discuss 2025 results and plans for 2026.
A key moment of the conference was the approval of the Platform’s first strategic concept, outlining priorities such as human resource development, fundraising for nuclear projects, supply chain sustainability, reactor construction, nuclear fuel cycle technologies, and public acceptance of nuclear energy.
Elsie Pule, Chief Coordinator of the Platform, emphasized the growing global role of BRICS:
“According to her, the group accounts for almost one-third of operating NPPs and more than 70% currently under-construction power units. Elsie Pule predicted that the BRICS’s share would be least two-thirds of all new nuclear capacity added to the global NPP fleet by 2030.”
Alexey Likhachev also highlighted Rosatom’s commitment to international cooperation:
“By tradition, Rosatom supports international cooperation, partnerships, and the exchange of best practices as we believe that the development of safe, sustainable and innovative energy - especially nuclear energy - is only possible through joint efforts. A year and a half ago, Rosatom joined the initiative for creating the BRICS Nuclear Energy Platform. Over the first year, the Platform became the site for direct exchange of experience, knowledge, and technologies for public and private companies. The addition of new members is important and symbolic as it confirms that the number of partners sharing our goals and values is increasing.”
During the conference, Nucleo Brasil Energia Participações Ltd. officially joined the Platform, further strengthening international collaboration in nuclear energy.

Double Launch: The 'Hearts' of New Nuclear Power Plants Depart Russia for Egypt and Turkey! ⚛️🚚
A landmark event took place in Moscow during the World Atomic Week, speaking volumes about the scale of Russia's nuclear industry. A ceremonial shipment of VVER-1200 reactor pressure vessels — the most modern and safe reactors in the world — was initiated via a teleconference!
Two giants have simultaneously set off on their journeys:
✅For the El-Dabaa NPP (Egypt): This is the first nuclear power project in Egypt's history, being implemented by Rosatom. The plant will become a cornerstone of the country's energy independence.
✅For Unit 4 of the Akkuyu NPP (Turkey): This is Türkiye's first nuclear power plant, constructed under the Build-Own-Operate model. The launch of all four power units will meet up to 10% of the country's electricity needs.
Why is this important? 🤔
The reactor pressure vessel is the very "heart" of a nuclear power plant. Its shipment marks the transition from large-scale construction to the key installation stage. Each of these cylinders, as tall as a multi-story building, weighs over 330 tonnes!
Their production is the result of cutting-edge technology and the coordinated work of a whole network of Russian enterprises.
The live broadcast of the equipment dispatch from the manufacturing plants to VDNH clearly demonstrated that Russia is not just building power plants, but is creating reliable nuclear energy for the future of entire countries and regions.

TASTE OF AFRICA: Мирный атом в Габоне 🌍⚛️
Окло – естественный ядерный “реактор”, который природа запустила сама примерно 2 млрд лет назад.
Как сказал бы Вернадский, мы не изобретаем мир заново - мы учимся читать то, что уже написано в природе.
📍 Окло (Габон) - самый известный и лучше всего подтверждённый пример природного саморегулирующегося реактора: в урановом месторождении работали несколько десятков реакторных зон.
💧 Как это работало (простыми словами):
иногда ядра урана редко самопроизвольно делятся - появляются нейтроны, как стартовые «искры».
Когда в руду приходила вода, она замедляла нейтроны, и тем становилось легче запускать деление урана‑235. При делении появлялись новые нейтроны - цепочка могла повторяться.
Так могло продолжаться тысячи лет.
🔬 В 1972 году это распознали по «недостающему» урану‑235: часть уже выгорела в ходе естественного деления. Важный момент, что продукты деления во многом остались в породе, поэтому Окло до сих пор помогает учёным думать о безопасном геологическом хранении отходов.
Пока мы ищем новые идеи, природа тихо напоминает: некоторые из них она “приготовила” задолго до нас.
