European Tribalism - Mythology, European culture, survival

On mythology (2) The entirety of pre-monotheistic mythology represents a history stretching deep into the depths of time. We find outstanding and defining events encoded in obscure images and fantastic stories. Each and every culture has these antique stories and symbols embedded in the very fabric of their distinct lore, fairytales and imagery. The accepted mainstream history is a 2000-year record of rewriting and softening of facts, created for the sake of sanity and the comfort of the souls of man. It is a history of the survivors, written to cover their suspicions and allay any fears. It was initiated with the scrutiny of myths by Plato, and has grown since the Renaissance, culminating in the scientificism of the last hundred years. #mythology @EuropeanTribalism

On Rome I found a pretty interesting image about Rome 🔗here. Let's forget for a moment that we can't be 100% sure that the numbers are correct and go with the generally agreed flow. Let's talk about the Roman calendar, which goes back to this year 747B.C.: For the early Romans the year started with the month March (Mars) in honour of their patron, the planet (celestial deity) Mars, who 🔗ravaged the greater Mediterranean area for a longer time back then but moved to a much farther orbit shortly after. The original Roman year had ten months, with March directly following December (decem - Latin word for ten). So where did the additional two months for the current year come from? Well, there was a celestial incident in 685B.C., involving Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and the sun. The Greeks recorded this as the myth of Phaeton stealing the chariot of his father. In reality the ancients saw an electrical discharge process of stupendous proportions: due to increasing current between the sun and Jupiter, Venus and Mercury started to blaze. The Mayans recorded this as actions of their hero-twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque, who were 🔗tricked to jump into an oven. Jupiter released a lightning bolt, which traveled 11 days to the sun to equalize the imbalance. When in the early morning hours of a summer day in 685B.C. this lightning bolt hit the sun, people around the world recognized this. In Mayan mythology this was 🔗Quetzalcoatl sacrificing himself. During these events, Earths axis tilted and the precession started, which also prolongated the year and lead to the contemporary year consisting of 12 months. I will add more pieces of this story over time, so it will become a clearer picture. #mythology @EuropeanTribalism

On the Moon We have to make an excursion today, to have a look at a piece of South American mythology. A Columbian tale goes: "When the Moon did not yet exist, a bearded old man named Botschika taught the arts of agriculture, clothing, worship and politics to the people. His beautiful but malevolent wife was Huythaca. She caused a flood in which most people perished. Botschika then turned her into the Moon." Interesting, isn't it? We can deduce at least two things from this tale: 1. The Moon wasn't always in a physical position like today. 2. At least a part of the South American folklore identifies the Moon as female. Let's see what else can be found in mythology! #mythology @EuropeanTribalism

On Chthonic deities (4) Sugaar is an ancient Basque deity, husband to 🔗Mari, the Spinner. He mostly has the form of a snake, but also can be depicted as sickle made of fire. His appearance mostly is accompanied by storms and thunder. Again we find the connection of a swastika-like depiction with thunder, which is interesting. #mythology @EuropeanTribalism

On Mithra (3) There are twin boys (Cautes and Cautopates) on the left and right of Mithra and on each side of a depiction of the zodiac. The boys are holding torches, one holds his torch high and the other pointed down. Both boys have their legs crossed, each with a different leg in the front. The crossed legs might represent the vernal and autumnal equinox. In some cases the crossed legs correspond correctly to the the vernal and autumnal equinox, in other cases these are reversed. The two torches represent the winter and summer solstice of the Sun after fall and spring equinox. The torch held down represents the act of relighting the torch at the winter solstice. The torch held high represents the full light of the summer solstice. So what can we learn from all of this? - Mithraism is not Pagan, as it's not based on the old Gods. - Mithraism is a forerunner of Christianity, just widespread among soldiers. - the time around 650BC gave rise to a couple of such religions #mythology @EuropeanTribalism

On Mithra (2) In the Roman cult of Mithraism, the name "Mithras" is understood to mean "mediator." Christ preached a new contract with God also, under the metaphor of God as a shepherd. Mithraism takes on the iconography of a bull (the constellation Taurus) slain by the God Mithras (as represented by the constellation Perseus, standing above Taurus in the sky), and clearly includes a number of other constellations in the imagery. All represent animals which one by one follow Taurus in appearing above the eastern horizon during the summer night skies. The cave as a metaphor for the cosmos is an interesting concept, for this can be extended to having a God standing outside of the cave, outside the cosmos. We have no clear idea what the real meaning of the Mithraic iconography is, although it could be guessed that it expressed a new order for humanity and the Universe: the old gods were dead and an invisible "greater god" tilted the heavens. #mythology @EuropeanTribalism

On Mithra (1) Many claim that Mitrhas is some Pagan deity and the cult rooted in Pagan customs, but I think it is something different. But let's break down the symbology to get an idea of what we are dealing with here! First of all: Mithra is one of the later minor deities of Persian Zoroastrianism. He became the God of a new religion and contract between humans and a greater God. 'Mithra' even translates as 'contract'. As many other religions or world views which popped up in the last 500 years before the year 0, the concept of a covenant between this new, greater, and impersonal God is offered as a promise of hope. Only Taoism stands out here, as a more secular philisophy. Mithraism was first noted in Parthia in 272 BC and became well established in Roman regions of Europe and North Africa by the first century AD. In a few hundred years, Mithraism spread far into Western Europe as a self-contained religion. It was a forerunner of Christianity! #mythology @EuropeanTribalism

On Sucellus Sucellus is the Hammer-god of the Celts. In Gaulish, the root cellos can be interpreted as 'striker', from Proto-Indo-European *-kel-do-s whence also come Latin per-cellere ('striker'), Greek klao ('to break') and Lithuanian kálti ('to hammer, to forge'). The prefix su- means 'good' or 'well' and is found in many Gaulish personal names. Sucellus is therefore commonly translated as 'the good striker.' He is often depicted 🔗together with the Earth-goddess Nantosvelta. The hammer indicates that he is most likely a deity derived from Hephaestus/Wiolant, as he lacks the story of slaying a serpent or dragon and is commonly more connected to the hearth, fertility and agriculture. Hence, he is most likely a deity, which is based mostly on 🔗Mars during the Era of the Gods. #mythology @EuropeanTribalism
