#China to implement zero tariffs on imports from 53 #African countries
China will implement zero-tariff measures for 53 African countries with which it has diplomatic relations, starting May 1, 2026, according to a statement.
China will continue negotiating and signing joint economic partnership agreements, and further expand market access for African exports through upgraded mechanisms such as the "green channel," said the statement.

🇨🇳#China: Footage reportedly shows the PLA experimenting with “cope cage” protection on unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) used for frontline logistics and supply transport, including water and other essential supplies.
According to a Chinese defence blog aligned with PLA analysis, Chinese military observers have studied the war in Ukraine, particularly the growing dominance of FPV drones over battlefield logistics. The report notes that the traditional way of moving supplies under the cover of darkness is becoming obsolete, as thermal-equipped drones now allow both sides to detect and strike targets even at night.
The report further describes the emergence of large “kill zones” behind the front line, where conventional resupply vehicles and personnel are highly vulnerable to drone attacks.
As a result, the PLA is reportedly exploring unmanned transport systems fitted with cage armor to improve survivability against FPV strikes.
🇨🇳#China: Two former Chinese defence ministers, Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu, have been sentenced to suspended death sentences on corruption charges.
China’s military court sentenced the two former ministers to death with a two-year reprieve. Under Chinese law, this means the executions will be suspended and the sentences are expected to change to life imprisonment if they do not commit further crimes during the reprieve period. In this case, Chinese state media said no parole or further sentence reductions will be allowed after commutation.
The court alleged that both men accepted large sums of money and luxury items as bribes.

🇨🇳#China: 10 petabytes of sensitive data have been stolen from the National Supercomputing Center in Tianjin and put up for sale online. The NSCC is part of China’s technological infrastructure, serving over 6000 institutions, including defence and scientific agencies.
The stolen data includes research in aerospace engineering, bioinformatics, fusion simulations, and military technology.
Among the files labeled "secret" are studies of experimental Chinese weapons tested against US systems. One document, classified for 10 years, contains a damage simulation system analyzing weapon performance against various armored targets, including a HIMARS system, an aircraft carrier, and a WWII bunker. The study examines factors such as penetration efficiency, optimal impact areas, and armor density variations. This would mark the largest known data breach in Chinese history.
According to the alleged attackers, the group gained access to all this material through a compromised VPN domain.

🇨🇳#China: Footage shows units of the PLA Army’s 83rd Group Army conducting combat training with a range of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).
The drills include the use of land robotic systems such as the ZRY222 attack robot, first publicly unveiled during a Beijing parade in 2025.
🇨🇳#China: China’s MoD says it has opened an investigation into General Zhang Youxia, the highest-ranking active military officer and vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, for "suspected serious violations of discipline and the law". Several analysts mentioned this phrase is commonly used as a euphemism for corruption.
Zhang, long seen as one of President Xi Jinping’s closest military allies, is one of the most senior figures ever to face scrutiny in China’s ongoing anti-corruption drive.

🇨🇳#China: Footage from this month’s exercises shows the Chinese PLA (People’s Liberation Army) conducting decontamination and combat drills during a simulated chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) attack.

News: #Ethiopia eyes #China's horticultural market under zero-tariff policy
Ethiopia is seeking to expand its presence in China’s vast #horticultural market by leveraging a new zero-tariff policy granted by Beijing to dozens of African countries, according to a report by Xinhua.
Tewodros Zewdie, executive director of the Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association, said the preferential policy is expected to significantly boost Ethiopia’s horticultural exports and strengthen its overall trade performance.
“The Chinese market provides hundreds of millions of potential buyers for produce that is going from #Africa,” Tewodros said, noting that improved access could help Ethiopia diversify export destinations and unlock the sector’s full potential.
Addis Standard previously reported that Ethiopia generated $288.48 million from the export of over 160,000 tons of horticultural products during the first seven months of the current fiscal year,........
