The Battle of Munda was fought on 17 March 45 BC in southern Hispania. Julius Caesar faced the last Pompeian army led by Gnaeus Pompeius, Sextus Pompeius, and Titus Labienus. The Pompeians held high ground. After hours of heavy fighting, Caesar’s army won. Around 30,000 Pompeians were killed. On January 10, 49 BC, Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon River with his army. This was against the law and started a big war in Rome. Crossing the Rubicon meant he was ready to fight the government and take control. ⚔️🏛️ Extra fact: The phrase "crossing the Rubicon" is an idiom meaning "passing the point of no return" As you probably guessed, it is because of what Julius Caesar did. On 4 November 1429 Joan of Arc led the assault on Saint-Pierre‑le‑Moûtier, France. The town was strongly defended and the first attack failed, but Joan insisted on a new, more determined assault. The defenders were defeated and the town was taken. Later claims that Charles VII formally ennobled her are uncertain and debated by historians. [read more here] @googlefactss #history#war#France

Today, 1 november 1952; Ivy Mike’s thermonuclear blast vaporized Elugelab, created new elements, and left a 2 miles or about 3.22 km wide scar on the planet's surface. Today 63 years ago on 27 October 1962, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vasili Alexandrovich Arkhipov, a Soviet Navy officer was credited with preventing a Soviet nuclear strike (and, presumably, all-out nuclear war) Such an attack likely would have caused a major global thermonuclear response.
