Putting feelings into words can help your brain process them. Saying “I feel angry,” “I feel hungry,” or “I feel love” lowers activity in the amygdala, which reacts strongly to emotions. At the same time, the right ventrolateral prefrontal cortex becomes more active. Scientists studied how well people can judge personality traits such as extraversion, intelligence, and empathy. They used short videos, muted videos, and photos to see how much information helps. Participants were also tested on their ability to recognize emotions. The results showed that people who are better at recognizing emotions are also better at judging personality accurately.
