📑🖊 OPINION | What July 5th Taught Me That July 4th Never Did Michelle Ellner, a Venezuelan-American activist and CODEPINK campaigner, reflects on what July 5th in Venezuela taught her that July 4th in the U.S. never did. While the U.S. commemorates its independence with celebrations, Venezuela’s July 5 marks an ongoing struggle for sovereignty — one met with sanctions, asset freezes, and foreign interference. Ellner recalls the 2002 U.S.-backed coup against Chávez and a broader campaign of economic warfare that continues under Nicolás Maduro. “True independence,” she writes, “is the right to choose your own path without being punished for it.” Read the full opinion piece here: https://shorturl.at/wTnKc #Sanctions#USVenezuelaRelations

📰 NEWS | US Congress Venezuela War Powers Resolution Defeated as Trump Claims to ‘Want Oil Back’ The US House of Representatives narrowly rejected a War Powers resolution aimed at preventing unauthorized military action against Venezuela, 213–211. A second resolution to limit US strikes on vessels accused of drug trafficking was also defeated. The votes come amid the largest US military deployment in the Caribbean in decades, reported strikes on boats since September, and renewed threats from President Trump, including a proposed naval blockade and statements that the US “wants the oil back.” The Venezuelan government condemned the escalation as a violation of international law, while China and Russia issued statements opposing Washington’s actions and calling for restraint. 📰 NEWS | Venezuela: US Removes Enriched Uranium from Obsolete Nuclear Reactor The governments of Venezuela and the United States, together with the United Kingdom and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), completed the extraction and transfer of 13.5 kilograms of uranium enriched above 20% from Venezuela’s obsolete RV-1 research reactor. The material, stored since the reactor’s closure in 1991, was transported from Miranda state to Puerto Cabello and then shipped to the US Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site in South Carolina. Venezuelan authorities said the January 3 US attack near the IVIC reactor facilities increased the urgency of removing the radioactive material. The IAEA confirmed it provided technical support, security guidance and oversight during the operation. Read the full report here 👉https://shorturl.at/p5gGd #Science#Uranium#USVenezuelaRelations

🖊🗞COLUMN | US Imperialism and the Venezuelan Oligarchy In the first delivery of VA’s new Insurgent History column, Christian Flores documents the Venezuelan elites’ historical subservience to foreign empires, a trajectory that culminated on January 3 with US strikes on Caracas, the first US military attack against a capital in this part of the world, and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro. Reflecting on the longer historical pattern, Flores writes that there has been “a clear continuity in the servility of the Creole oligarchy to imperial powers since the nineteenth century.” Read the full VA column here 👉https://shorturl.at/3KUp3 #bourgeoisie#InsurgentHistory#USVenezuelaRelations

Harris trace the funding streams and tactics behind U.S. interference, revealing how the NED operates behind the guise of civil society support. “The role of the NED in these countries is not to promote democracy, but to manipulate it in favor of Washington’s interests.” 🔗 Read the full opinion piece here: https://venezuelanalysis.com/opinion/us-reinstates-funding-to-propaganda-outlet-ned-weaponizes-democracy-in-venezuela-nicaragua-and-cuba #USNationalEndowmentforDemocracy#USVenezuelaRelations#USAID
