🖊OPINION | ‘It Is Venezuela Today. It Will Be South Africa Tomorrow,’ NUMSA Trade Union Warns Marching to the US consulate in Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest trade union, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), protested against US aggression on Venezuela on January 24. The union demanded the release of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, stating that “in defending Venezuela, we defend the sovereignty of all nations,” and warning that “no country is safe from America’s greedy appetite.” In the same context, NUMSA said that US tariffs and threats to South Africa’s participation in the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) are contributing to job losses.
