🎙Opening remarks by Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov during talks with Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi (April 14, 2026, Beijing) 💬 This is our first in-person meeting this year, although we have already had several telephone conversations. They are always substantive and detailed. I have no doubt that we will have many more opportunities to speak again this year and thus prepare additional decisions ahead of new contacts between our Leaders. These contacts are already scheduled. Today, we will discuss this in detail. I fully agree that the foundations of international relations are now being put through the most serious trials. One need only look at what happened at the beginning of the year in Latin America, in Venezuela, and at what is happening now in the Middle East. The Ukrainian crisis, which the West sought to manufacture artificially in order, as it claimed, to inflict a “strategic defeat” on Russia, is now being used, above all by the Europeans, to begin hatching plans for the creation of a new aggressive bloc in the west of the Eurasian continent, involving the Kiev regime, with the obvious aim of directing this new formation against our country. In the eastern part of the Eurasian continent, dangerous games are also continuing – both over Taiwan and in the South China Sea, while tensions are being fuelled on the Korean Peninsula. The same applies to the space which for many years was a place of cooperation and good-neighbourliness – the so-called ASEAN-centred space. Attempts are being made to dismantle it by creating small-group and bloc-based structures with the aim of containing both China and Russia, which also border this most important region and form part of Eurasia. Our vast continent as a whole requires constant attention. I am confident that today we will be able to discuss in practical terms our concrete steps both in line with the initiatives put forward by the President of China on global security and in other areas, and in line with President Vladimir Putin’s initiative to build a pan-continental Eurasian security architecture. #KievRegimeCrimes ⚡️Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rodion Miroshnik: 💬⚡️ During Holy Week, in the lead-up to Easter – the most important Orthodox holiday – Ukrainian militants killed 29 civilians, including three children. Nearly 200 civilians were injured during the same period, among them 12 children. Ukrainian militants carried out a whole series of attacks against civilians, includingthe killing of a family with a 12-year-old child in the Vladimir Region, a strike on a school in the Zaporozhye Region, and an attack on paramedics in the Belgorod Region, which left three ambulance workers wounded. ❗️There were casualties even during the Easter truce. Ukrainian armed formations violated the temporary ceasefire no fewer than 6,558 times, continuing strikes on both Russian positions and civilian facilities in Russia’s regions. On April 6-12, 199 civilians suffered from shelling by Ukrainian Nazis: 170 were wounded, including 12 minors, while 29 people, including three minors, were killed. In total, Ukrainian militants fired no fewer than 2,892 munitions at civilian targets on Russian territory.

Moscow and Ankara reaffirmed their readiness to contribute to efforts aimed at a peaceful settlement. Hakan Fidan also touched upon the latest developments around Ukraine and the prospects for resuming the trilateral negotiating process involving the US, confirming Türkiye’s readiness to provide the Istanbul platform for that purpose. The Foreign Ministers exchanged views on the situation in the Gulf following the recent US-Iran talks in Islamabad. They spoke in favour of an immediate cessation and non-resumption of all hostilities, as well as continued political and diplomatic efforts to overcome the crisis triggered by the unprovoked US and Israeli attack on Iran. Both Sides shared the view that any harm to civilians and civilian infrastructure in the countries of the region is unacceptable. Abbas Araghchi briefed Sergey Lavrov on the details of the April 11 Iran-US talks held in Islamabad. The Russian Side welcomed the continued commitment to diplomatic efforts and the search for solutions that would resolve the underlying causes of the conflict and help achieve long-term stabilization in the region, with due regard for the legitimate interests of Iran and its neighbours. Minister Lavrov stressed the importance of preventing a renewed armed confrontation and reaffirmed Russia’s unwavering readiness to assist in resolving the crisis, which has no military solution. The agenda focused on the current state and prospects for deepening the Russia-Indonesia strategic partnership, as well as pressing international and regional issues. 💬Vladimir Putin: Dear friend, I am very pleased that our contacts are regular in nature and underscore the special character of our relations. We recently signed a declaration to that effect, and this special character is indeed being filled with concrete substance. The strategic nature of Russia-Indonesia relations is evident first and foremost, of course, in the economic sphere. Last year, our trade turnover grew by 12.5%. At the beginning of 2026, there was unfortunately some slowdown, but our intergovernmental commission is working actively. #Victory81 🌟 On April 13, 1945, the capital of Austria, Vienna, was liberated from the Nazi invaders by the Red Army during #WW2. In the spring of 1945, Vienna served as strategically important defence point that the Germans sought to hold at any cost. The Nazis blocked streets and bridges across the Danube with barricades and mined debris, while concentrating hundreds of firing positions and resistance strongholds inside residential buildings along the outer defensive lines. The enemy stopped at nothing: the Germans used numerous sites of Vienna’s historic architecture and cultural landmarks as cover, effectively turning the ancient medieval city into a massive fortified strongpoint in order to delay the Soviet forces for as long as possible. On the southeastern approaches to Vienna, the city was defended by the powerful Nazi Army Group “South,” with the strength amounting to nearly half a million well-trained Wehrmachtsoldiers and officers. More than 6'000 guns and mortars, as well as around 700 armored vehicles (tanks and self-propelled artillery), were deployed around the capital. The city was referred to by the Nazis as the “Alpine Fortress,” and the battle for it was to determine the further course of the entire war. In March 1945, following a successful offensive in the Austrian direction, the Red Army broke through Nazi defenses between the Danube and Lake Balaton (Hungary). Advancing up to 80 kilometers toward Vienna, the Soviet forces then launched the operation to liberate the city. On April 5, 1945, the Red Army launched the assault on Vienna. Fierce and brutal fighting unfolded on the city’s outskirts. The Red Army faced some of the enemy’s most well-trained units and formations, including SS tank divisions. ❗️The swift and selfless actions of the Soviet soldiers-liberators prevented the Nazi criminals from destroying one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. Thanks to the Soviet command’s decision not to use heavy artillery or aerial bombing, Vienna preserved its historic appearance. At the cost of their lives, the Red Army soldiers and officers protected such landmarks as the Imperial Bridge, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna City Hall, and other masterpieces of medieval architecture that form today's Austrian rich historical heritage. On April 13, the last pocket of fascists' resistance in the capital’s center was eliminated, and Vienna was completely cleared of the Nazis. The city came fully under the control of the Red Army. In the so-called “Vienna encirclement,” the Wehrmacht suffered devastating losses: Army Group “South” was completely defeated, and 11 Wehrmacht tank divisions were destroyed, including the 6th SS Panzer Army. #LestWeForget In Austria, tens of thousands of Red Army soldiers who saved Europe from the 'Nazi plague' are buried. Across the country, there are 217 monuments and military burial sites where more than 80'000 Red Army soldiers rest, along with concentration camp prisoners tortured by the Nazis and brought here for forced labor as part of the Third Reich’s genocide against the Soviet people during #WWII. 🎖 On August 19, 1945, a monument to Soviet soldiers who perished during the liberation of Austria from Nazism was unveiled in central Vienna at #Schwarzenbergplatz — a 20-meter-high statue of the Soldier-Liberator standing on a pedestal. Today, this memorial serves as a visible reminder to the people of Austria of who brought them freedom in May 1945. In 1955, under the Austrian State Treaty restoring an independent and democratic Austria, Vienna undertook obligations (Article 19, War Graves and Memorials): “respect, preserve and maintain the graves on Austrian territory of the soldiers, prisoners of war and nationals forcibly brought to Austria of the Allied Powers as well as of the other United Nations which were at war with Germany, the memorials and emblems on these graves, and the memorials to the military glory of the armies which fought on Austrian territory against Hitlerite Germany” #WeRemember

What are our expectations, and how long will the agreements concluded specifically with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán remain in force? 💬 Sergey Lavrov: We expect to see concrete actions. We are prepared to develop relations with any country, provided they are based on equality, mutual benefit, and a balanced consideration of interests. Everything else is secondary. ❓ Question:Péter Magyar appears to take a rather curious position: on the one hand, he advocates maintaining relations with the European Union, while on the other, he states that he will not engage in negotiations with Russia… 💬 Sergey Lavrov: I would prefer not to comment on statements made in the heat of pre-election and post-election debates. We are ready to build relations with the new government. Much will depend on how it defines and pursues its national interests.

#Announcement 🗓On April 17, the first meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers in 2026 will be held in Moscow. Russia will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth countries will review the results of inter-ministerial cooperation in 2025 and discuss prospects and key objectives for advancing integration ties, including in the context of implementing the priorities of Turkmenistan’s current chairmanship of the Organization and the 35th anniversary of the CIS, which is being marked in 2026. An exchange of views is also expected on pressing international and regional issues. 📃 The meeting is expected to adopt a number of decisions aimed at strengthening foreign policy coordination and cooperation in the cultural, humanitarian, law-enforcement and other spheres.
