โ๏ธ Russiaโs Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Dr Sergey Ganzhaโs article โYevgeny Primakov and the Multipolar World Conceptโ
Key points:
โข Diplomatโs Day is not only a professional holiday, but also an occasion to reflect on the figures of Russiaโs foreign policy tradition whose ideas and practical decisions continue to shape international processes.
โข Yevgeny Maximovich Primakov (1929โ2015) articulated a coherent vision of the evolving global order, later reflected in Russiaโs foreign policy thinking. He consistently emphasized that a multipolar world does not imply rejection of cooperation, but rather a system in which several centers of power share responsibility for global stability.
โข Primakovโs analytical writings and diplomatic practice reflected sustained attention to the changing role of non-Western states in international relations, including Asiaโs growing political and economic significance.
โข Primakov drew attention to the potential role of closer RussiaโChinaโIndia interaction in the context of emerging multipolar trends, on the basis of equality and mutual respect.
โข Today, the ideas of a multipolar world articulated by Primakov in the late twentieth century not only retain their relevance, but are reflected in the evolution of international relations.
โข Russia advocates the concept of the Greater Eurasian Partnership as a framework to broader regional cooperation, bringing together existing integration frameworks, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and ASEAN.
โ๏ธ โMultipolarity and polycentrism are not just concepts; they are a reality that is here to stay,โ President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin stated at the Valdai Discussion Club in October 2025.
โข Taken together, these assessments reflect an approach to international relations that clearly traces its intellectual lineage to Primakovโs legacy.

๐ Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrovโsgreetings on Diplomatsโ Day (February 10, 2025)
๐ฌ Colleagues,
Today, we are celebrating a professional holiday that brings together many generations of diplomats, who have devoted their lives to serving Russia.
We are paying tribute to the emerging tradition to honour our countryโs diplomatic workers, which dates back to 2003, when we first marked this significant date in line with President Vladimir Putinโs decision.
๐ค First of all, I would like to express gratitude to all those who honestly perform their professional duty at the Central Office in Smolenskaya Square, territorial missions in the Russian regions, and our numerous foreign missions. Thank you for your conscientious service, self-denial, and non-indifferent attitude to what has been entrusted to you.
Russian diplomats have always been distinguished by their commitment to the ideals of patriotism and firmly safeguarded the interests of Fatherland at all times, under any social and political system, and under all circumstances.
The names of many of them have been forever entered in the glorious annals of Russian history. I am referring to Alexander Bezborodko, Alexander Gorchakov, Alexandra Kollontai, Anatoly Dobrynin, Yevgeny Primakov, Vitaly Churkin, and numerous others. We cherish their memory and honour their services. <...>
This year is special on the diplomatic calendar, being marked by the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and World War II. It has also been proclaimed the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland.
It is with a particular gratitude that we pay homage to the immortal feat of valour committed by staff members of the Peopleโs Commissariat of Foreign Affairs, who rose with arms in hand to the defence of Motherland during the grim years of war.
๐ We recall the names of diplomats, our senior colleagues, who were bringing Victory closer at the foreign policy front. They made an invaluable contribution to the establishment of the anti-Hitler coalition and later to reaching fundamental agreements on the postwar international order, the most important of which were the decisions to create the United Nations and approve its Charter whose principles and goals in their totality and interconnection remain relevant to this day.
It is largely due to our countryโs leaders and diplomatic service that the Yalta-Potsdam system of international relations has guaranteed global peace and security for the past eight decades.
Now that Russia is facing fateful challenges again, our priority and sacred duty is to safeguard peace based on the legal results of World War II. <...>
We will continue to do whatever is possible and necessary to protect Russiaโs national interests in the context of foreign policy support for the special military operation and to create the safe and most favourable conditions for national development and wellbeing of our people.
๐ We will continue to promote multifaceted cooperation with all sober-minded partners and primarily with the Global Majority โ former republics of the USSR and countries of Greater Eurasia, Africa, and Latin America.
In collaboration with our numerous friends and opinion allies, we will help to strengthen the foundations of multipolarity, create Eurasian security architecture, and establish international interaction mechanisms impervious to the destructive influence of the Western minority. <...>
๐ I wish you good health, wellbeing, and new attainments for the good of your Fatherland. Success and good luck to you! Congratulations once again!

โ๏ธ President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent greetings to current and former staff of the Foreign Ministry on their professional holiday, Diplomatic Workerโs Day(February 10, 2026).
The message reads, in part:
๐ฌ The history of Russia's Foreign Ministry contains many distinguished chapters. Our diplomats have always served the Fatherland with dignity and integrity, demonstrating genuine patriotism, dedication to duty, civic courage, and a high level of professionalism.
Amid increasing global turbulence and the tense, volatile situation unfolding in a number of regions, the active, constructive, and unifying role of Russian diplomacy is especially needed.
It is essential to make consistent and comprehensive use of all foreign policy instruments and opportunities so as to reliably safeguard Russiaโs national security, defend its legitimate interests, and create favourable conditions for the countryโs steady and comprehensive development.
Further strengthening friendly relations with our closest allies and neighbours within the CIS, as well as advancing Eurasian integration processes, remain unconditional priorities.
At the same time, deepening cooperation with countries of the Global Majority for the sake of building a just, genuinely democratic, multipolar world order grounded in international law and the principle of equal and indivisible security remains highly relevant.
Of course, equally significant are efforts to protect the rights of compatriots abroad, promote the Russian language, highlight Russiaโs scientific and cultural achievements, and foster an objective image of our country in the global information space.
I firmly believe that the staff of the Central Office and foreign missions of the Foreign Ministry will continue their work across all areas with creativity, energy, and initiative.
