🌟AI Sunday Wonders:GraphCast Revolutionizes Global Weather Prediction Hello, everyone! In a groundbreaking stride, Google DeepMind, through its AI model GraphCast, has elevated weather forecasting to new heights. This machine-learning marvel not only outshines conventional weather prediction models but accomplishes the feat on a standard desktop computer, producing more accurate forecasts in a matter of minutes. Traditional weather prediction relies on numerical weather prediction (NWP), an energy-intensive process running on supercomputers. GraphCast, however, utilizes machine learning, demonstrating superior speed and precision. It competes with, and often surpasses, established models like Huawei's Pangu-weather and the gold-standard NWP system at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). GraphCast's training involved learning from past global weather estimates, forming links between various weather variables. Impressively, it predicts future weather six hours ahead using the current state and estimates from the past six hours. This process allows GraphCast to forecast up to ten days ahead in less than a minute.
