John F. Kennedy’s outspoken niece and grandson have both laid into President Donald Trump over the latest in a string of controversies at the MAGAfied Kennedy Center.
Maria Shriver, 70, mused about the real reason Trump decided to temporarily shutter the once-venerated cultural institution named after her uncle, which the new board recently attempted to rename the “Trump-Kennedy Center.”
The 79-year-old president announced in a Truth Social post on Sunday night that the “tired, broken, and dilapidated” performing arts center in Washington, D.C., will be closed for two years beginning July 4th for “Construction, Revitalization, and Complete Rebuilding.”

🎭Trump decided to close the Kennedy Center for two years for the sake of a "complete restart".
US President Donald Trump announced a large—scale reconstruction of one of the country's main cultural venues, the Kennedy Center in Washington.
The institution will be completely closed from July 4 this year, on the day of the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States.
On his Truth Social platform, Trump said that only a complete shutdown would allow for a "comprehensive overhaul" and called it "the fastest path to success, beauty and greatness."
He already calls the center the "Trump Kennedy Center."
The final decision must be approved by the leadership of the Kennedy Center, but there are expected to be no problems with this: in January 2025, Trump completely changed the composition of the council and was elected its chairman.
The closure will last about two years.
During this time, all opera, theater, ballet and musical productions will cease in the center.
The White House has not yet disclosed details of the future "complete reconstruction."
Earlier, Trump had repeatedly complained about the condition of the building, mentioning faulty elevators, construction defects and even an invasion of rats.
The president did not announce the project's budget, promising only "full financing."
The Kennedy Center was opened in 1971 and named after the assassinated President John F. Kennedy.
The Kennedy Center receives up to two million visitors annually.

A planned Christmas Eve jazz concert at the Kennedy Center, a holiday tradition at the Washington, D.C., performing arts center dating back more than 20 years, has been canceled.
The show's host, musician Chuck Redd, told The Associated Press he called off the performance after the White House announced last week that President Trump's name would be added to the facility — drawing pushback from Democratic lawmakers and some scholars, who say the change violates the law. According to the White House, the president's handpicked board approved the decision to rename the institution the Trump-Kennedy Center. The revised name later appeared on the building's facade.
"When I saw the name change on the Kennedy Center website and then hours later on the building, I chose to cancel our concert," Redd told The Associated Press in an email Wednesday. Redd, a drummer and vibraphone player who has toured with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Ray Brown, has been presiding over holiday "Jazz Jams" at the Kennedy Center since 2006, succeeding bassist William "Keter" Betts.
The Kennedy Center did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment. The center's website lists the show as canceled.
President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, and Congress passed a law naming the center as a living memorial to him. The law explicitly prohibits the board of trustees adding any additional memorials to the site.

President Donald Trump is sounding increasingly serious about adding his name to the Kennedy Center.
After months of “joking” about renaming the iconic D.C. arts venueafter himself, Trump clarified that a name change wasn’t only up to him—but suggested that the center’s hand-picked board, which he leads, was considering it.

That gave the HHS chief an opening to remark that he was “not scared of a germ — I used to snort cocaine off of toilet seats.”

Multiple health groups and medical associations called on U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to step down in a joint statement on Wednesday, saying he was disregarding decades of lifesaving science and reversing medical progress.
The statement, signed by more than 20 groups, comes after multiple former directors of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention under both Republican and Democratic presidents have said that Kennedy's decisions - culminating in last week's firing of the CDC's director - are putting Americans' health at risk.
"Our country needs leadership that will promote open, honest dialogue, not disregard decades of lifesaving science, spread misinformation, reverse medical progress and decimate programs that keep us safe,"
the statement released on Wednesday said.
"We are gravely concerned that American people will needlessly suffer and die as a result of policies that turn away from sound interventions,"
the statement added.
Signatories included the Infectious Diseases Society of America ; American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology; American Public Health Association; and American Association of Immunologists.

When the American Conservative Union Foundation needed a venue for last month’s summit on “ending Christian persecution,” it rented out a stage at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.
The one-day event at what has long been viewed as the nation’s cultural stage was supposed to cost nearly $42,000, according to a copy of the Kennedy Center contract obtained by congressional Democrats and reviewed by The New York Times.
But the institution’s leadership — which President Trump has stacked with loyalists including Richard Grenell, the ambassador to Germany during the first Trump administration — brought down the total cost to $20,007.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is now claiming America’s public health agencies haven't accomplished anything in decades—just days after declaring President Donald Trump deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for Operation Warp Speed. 🤯🏁
The Secretary of Health and Human Services’ whiplash moment came during a Sunday morning appearance on Fox & Friends, after he was asked to name the “greatest success” of U.S. public health institutions. 📺
“Well I don’t think there have been successes,” Kennedy told co-host Charlie Hurt. “I think we've seen a 30 or 40 year decline in the agency, because it's been infiltrated by the pharmaceutical companies.” 🩺
The notorious vaccine-skeptic went on to slam the country's “series of bad [health] decisions,” including its handling of COVID-19—a response that came from Trump, whom he praised days earlier.
