🇺🇸AI Films Can Now Win Oscars The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences approved new rules for the 98th edition of the Oscars, which will take place in March 2026. One of the main new rules introduced involves AI: “With regard to Generative Artificial Intelligence and other digital tools used in the making of the film, the tools neither help nor harm the chances of achieving a nomination. The Academy and each branch will judge the achievement, taking into account the degree to which a human was at the heart of the creative authorship when choosing which movie to award.” From now on AI will not affect a film's eligibility. 🇺🇸US Police Uses AI Generated Personas According to 404 Media US police departments are utilizing Overwatch — an AI tool that “deploys lifelike virtual agents” to “infiltrate and engage criminal networks” — to collect incriminating evidence against anyone from suspected drug and human traffickers, to “radicalized” political activists and “college protesters.” One example of a “radicalized” AI persona that developer Massive Blue says it has created is one pretending to be a 36-year-old child-free divorced woman, described as outspoken, lonely, and body positive. Her hobbies include baking and, vaguely, “activism.” #AI
