💬 The 79th Session of the UN General Assembly has recently completed the general debate, where President Vladimir Putin tasked me to represent the Russian Federation.
Does the Pact for the Future have a future?
Held as usual in the last week of September, the UN’s High-Level Week included the so-called Summit of the Future. The idea to convene it came from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and Russia has met this idea with understanding considering that the UN is sinking deeper and deeper into a crisis, and something has to be done about it. Russian diplomats joined efforts to prepare this meeting and acted in a sincere and honest way, even if we did not have any illusions in this regard. In fact, there were quite a few major UN events in the past which failed to go beyond bombastic declarations that were forgotten soon after their adoption.

In 2015, the UN Summit on Sustainable Development adopted grand plans to fight poverty and inequality. In the end, they turned out to be empty promises in the face of the unwillingness of the Western countries to give up their neo-colonial practices of siphoning off the riches of the world for their own benefit. <...>
The current UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, just like Kofi Annan and Ban Ki-moon before him, has put forward an initiative under the slogan of giving a new start and resetting global cooperation.
This is a wonderful idea. Who could disagree?
But what global cooperation is there to talk about, when the West has trampled all those unshakeable values of globalisation we have been hearing about from everywhere for so many years. These perorations were designed to convince us that they would give everyone equal access to the goods of modern civilisation. Where is the inviolability of property, the presumption of innocence, freedom of expression, access to information, fair market competition under fair and constant rules?
How can we discuss global cooperation when the Western countries have unleashed a real war of sanctions against more than half, if not the majority, of the countries of the world, and the US dollar has been crudely turned into a weapon against undesirable countries? <...>

• It is not too late to give the UN a new lease on life.
• It has gotten to the point where the West wants to turn the UN into an instrument for attaining itself-seeking goals.
• [The West is] hindering the badly needed change in the system of forming the UN Secretariat, where the key posts have been seized and are “inherited” by representatives of the Western minority.
• There must be an honest discussion by all UN member states, and not like a process in which the Pact for the Future was prepared – without a single plenary session of talks attended by all countries.
• Establishing a space of equal and indivisible security in Eurasia is crucial amid the all-encompassing processes unfolding in the macro-region.
• Our initiative is based on the understanding of the need for states and multilateral organisations of the Eurasian region to assume responsibility for ensuring their own security under the ‘Eurasian solutions to Eurasian problems’ formula.

❗️ Today, the international community once again faces massive challenges, just like during World War II, which require united efforts rather than confrontation and desire of global dominance. Russia will always advocate collective efforts, truth and the rule of law, peace and cooperation in the interests of reviving the ideals set forth by the UN’s founding fathers.

The Sides discussed current aspects of Russian-Pakistani cooperation and exchanged views on the situation in the Persian Gulf.
Sergey Lavrov praised Islamabad’s mediation role in reaching sustainable agreements between Iran and the US, and confirmed Russia’s readiness to support these efforts.

Islamabad Seminar Explores Legacy of Soviet Diplomat Sarvar Azimov
✨️ On March 30, 2026, the Embassy of Russia in Pakistan, in cooperation with the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), organized a seminar dedicated to the role of Sarvar Azimov in advancing Soviet-Pakistani relations from 1974 to 1980.
The event was attended by Ambassador Albert P. Khorev; Ambassadors of CIS Member States accredited in Islamabad; Chairman of the Council of the Association of Russian Diplomats, IgorKhalevinsky; Chairman of the Board of Governors of ISSI, Ambassador Khalid Mahmood; Ambassador for Russian Science and Education, Dr. Shahid Hasan; Chairman of the Association of Pakistani Graduates from Russia and the CIS, Dr. Ashraf Nizami; as well as representatives of Russian and Pakistani academic communities.
❗️The keynote speaker, Anvar S. Azimov - retired Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Senior Research Fellow at MGIMO University - shared insights into the legacy of his father, the prominent Soviet statesman, writer, and diplomat Sarvar Azimov.
💬 In his remarks, Ambassador Khorev highlighted Sarvar Azimov’s distinguished service record and his substantial contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy and industrial sectors. These efforts laid a solid foundation for further development of Soviet-Pakistani relations.
🤝 In his address, Anvar Azimov underscored that Sarvar Azimov’s dedication to his country, combined with his respect for Pakistan, enabled him to build constructive relations with the Pakistani leadership, including Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and later President Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq.
🎓 The seminar generated strong interest among participants, who emphasized the importance of such events in preserving historical memory and promoting in-depth analysis of bilateral relations.

The parties discussed the current political situation in the province, including in the context of ongoing international tensions.

Priority areas include Russian assistance in water resource management and climate change mitigation, as well as the restoration of the Karachi Steel Mills.

This year marks the 86th anniversary of the adoption in 1940 of the Lahore Resolution, which paved the way for the emergence seven years later on the Indian subcontinent of a new state independent of British colonial oppression – the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The Pakistani people have overcome with dignity all the difficulties of Pakistan’s early years, preserving and enriching their national and traditional values.
🤝 On this momentous occasion, I wish all Pakistanis good health, well-being, and good fortune, as well as success in their work for the development and prosperity of their country!

🤝 In a video message, the Cultural Attaché of the Russian Embassy in Pakistan, Gleb Shubin, and the Director of the Russian House in Karachi, Ruslan Prokhorov, praised the LCCI leadership for organizing the course, emphasizing its positive impact on strengthening humanitarian dialogue between Russia and Pakistan.

✨️ On February 19, a Russian delegation led by Yuri Gorlach, Director of the Crisis Management Center of the Russian Foreign Ministry; Boris Burmistrov, Deputy Director of the Second Asian Department, and Ambassador Albert P. Khorev visited the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan (NDMA) and met its Chairman, Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik.
The delegation was shown the NDMA's innovative solutions for forecasting and providing early warnings of natural disasters.

✨️ On February 18, Ambassador Albert P. Khorev delivered a lecture on Russia-Pakistan relations to students of Bahria University.
The Ambassador highlighted that, despite the difficult nature of international relations, cooperation between Moscow and Islamabad has always been constructive, as evidenced by industrial projects implemented in Pakistan with the support of the Soviet Union in the 1970s and 1980s, including the construction of the Karachi Steel Mills and the Guddu Thermal Power Plant.
🇷🇺🇵🇰 He emphasized that modern Russia-Pakistan relations are characterized by increasingly dynamic political, economic, and humanitarian contacts.
Ambassador Khorev also updated the students on the situation in and around Ukraine. He focused on the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis and the destructive role of Western countries in destabilizing the Eurasian region. Ambassador also drew the audience's attention to the Russian Federation's vital efforts to uphold the rights of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine.
🤝 On the sidelines of the event, the Ambassador met with the Rector of Bahria University, Vice AdmiralAbid Hameed HI(M). The parties discussed the prospects of developing partnerships with relevant Russian universities and expressed interest in continuing academic cooperation.

🚣♂️ From January 26 to February 1, Karachi hosted the 18th International Rowing Regatta and welcomed the Russian national rowing team.
🏆 Athletes from the Moscow and Lipetsk regions demonstrated their high level of training, bringing glory to the national rowing school.
