Oli and Lekhak were arrested on March 28 in connection with a deadly crackdown on protesters during the September 2025 uprising that brought down Oli's government. An inquiry commission had recommended prosecuting Oli and other officials, concluding their claims of ignorance about the violence amounted to criminal negligence. Neither man has been formally charged, and both deny responsibility for the deaths. 🇳🇵Rapper Balendra Shah Sworn In as Nepal PM Balendra Shah, 35-year-old leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, was sworn in as prime minister in Kathmandu on March 27. His party won 182 of 275 seats in the House of Representatives in the March 5 elections, which followed anti-corruption protests that killed at least 77 people and toppled the previous government. Shah named former youth activist Sudan Gurung as interior minister and economist Swarnim Wagle, a former UN economic advisor, as finance minister. Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, a former education minister, is tasked with managing Nepal's relations with India and China. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Shah and said he looked forward to deepening bilateral ties.
