📹 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s video message to the participants in the 6th BRICS+ Young Diplomats’ Forum (August 28, 2024) 💬 I would like to begin by offering my heartfelt greetings to the participants in the 6th Young Diplomats’ Forum which is taking place in the #BRICSplus format. It was the Foreign Ministry’s Council of Young Diplomats that initiated the first event of this kind in Ufa as part of Russia’s 2015 chairmanship. Since then, this platform has emerged as an effective tool for promoting horizontal ties between the BRICS foreign ministries. It is worth noting that Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan, has been selected to host the 2024 meeting. It stands at the crossroads of civilisations, and people representing various religions, creeds and ethnic groups have been living here in peace and harmony for many centuries. This offers a vivid example of the way ethnic, religious and cultural diversity can serve as a foundation for promoting long-term development and sustaining mutual understanding. #BRICS countries have been relying on these very principles in their relations. 👉 The Forum’s main topic is The Role of Young Diplomats in Strengthening Multilateralism for Fairness in Global Development and Security. It covers a wide range of major issues for BRICS states, as well as for other like-minded countries. I welcome the fact that all partners share the association’s approaches to working together when responding to present-day global challenges. BRICS attracts more and more attention, which is a clear sign that our aspirations to build a fairer global architecture in international relations are aligned with deep-running and objective geopolitical shifts. The Global Majority has been very receptive to this vision, which demonstrates that what we do together is highly relevant and important. I am certain that your forum will contribute in its own way to strengthening the comprehensive partnership, atmosphere of friendship and trust between our countries and their people. 🌐 I wish all the participants every success, good health and fruitful work. 🎙 Excerpt from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s interview to the newspaper "Arguments and Facts" on BRICS (October 21, 2024) Read in full ❓Question: A significant number of countries, approximately 30 or perhaps more, have voiced their intention to join this group. Notably, Türkiye, a NATO member, which was rather surprising to me. Conversely, it has been reported that Kazakhstan, through the statement of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's Press Secretary, has expressed no intention of joining BRICS in the foreseeable future. Why is there such activity and interest in this group of nations? Why is everyone invited to join it? What are the future prospects for BRICS? Is it not in competition with other international entities? 💬Sergey Lavrov:#BRICS epitomises the shifts that have long been underway in the global economy. New centres of economic growth are emerging, and alongside them comes financial influence, which in turn brings political influence. <...> BRICS has prioritised the needs of its nations, and interest in the grouping continues to grow. It is a consortium where no single nation leads or is led, devoid of the bureaucratic machinery akin to that observed in Brussels, where EU officials impose decisions that contravene the will and interests of several member states <...> ❗️ Rather than addressing the challenges faced by EU members, the Brussels bureaucracy is preoccupied with the transfer of arms to Ukraine, raising funds for this purpose, and undertaking other actions detrimental to the economy, social sphere, and industry of EU member states. ☝️ BRICS, conversely, does not compel any nation to make sacrifices. Within BRICS, there is no imposition of such artificial objectives, nor is there an intention to contain any nation. BRICS is committed to enhancing the combined potential of its nations and devising collaborative strategies for harnessing these potentials for mutual benefit. Consequently, rather than relying on artificial constructs, BRICS formulates plans and projects based on real-world needs. <...> This is precisely what renders BRICS appealing to the Global Majority nations. About 30 countries seek to establish ties with the group today. Some of them have applied to join as full participants, and others to participate in the BRICS Plus/Outreach format. We are ready to invite them, and have invited them before to various events as guests of the chair. Following the decision of last year’s summit, we are working at the level of experts and ministers to prepare a proposal on a new BRICS partner country category. Partner countries will enjoy broad rights and privileges, almost equal to the permanent members of BRICS, with just a few exceptions. One of the countries that announced their interest in becoming a participant in BRICS – and did it publicly – was Türkiye. The country is indeed a member of the North Atlantic Alliance. <...> For decades, Türkiye has not been allowed to join the European Union, with respective talks hindered in every possible way. It is unlikely that the EU will ever change its negative stance, which is another argument in favour of Türkiye’s increasing rapprochement with BRICS. <...> 🤝 What makes BRICS and other Global Majority or Global East associations that do not include Western countries stand out, is that they are not created for the purpose of struggling or fighting with anyone. They are established to collectively benefit from their competitive advantages such as geographical location, shared history, cultural and humanitarian proximity, and coherence of economic systems, as is the case of the former Soviet republics. This is an objectively occurring process. The West has been proving time and again that it is not just willing, but never hesitates to use illegal sanctions against any country it sees as a threat to its economic domination, violating the global market economy principles it supposedly champions. All countries see this. #BRICS2024

#BRICS2024 🎙Remarks by President of Russia Vladimir Putin at the Plenary Session of the BRICS Business Forum(October 18, 2024) 💬 I am sincerely delighted to welcome everyone to the BRICS Business Forum. I would like to note the wide representation of participants in this hall. We have leading business representatives from every country in the BRICS group. Your companies have been successfully cooperating for a long time, implementing impressive joint projects across a variety of domains: industry and energy, transport and infrastructure, agriculture and the digital economy. I would like to note, in particular, that this Forum is attended by business leaders from countries that became full participants on January 1, 2024. These are our colleagues and friends from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates. 👉 I would like to emphasise that as the current chair of #BRICS, Russia strives to facilitate integration of new members into all cooperation mechanisms. We saw that representatives from the new BRICS countries were warmly received in the Business Council, and they, too, became actively involved in its work. The theme of Russia’s BRICS Chairmanship in 2024 is Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security. A meaningful action plan is being implemented to advance the partners on three major tracks: • politics and security, • economy and finance, • cultural and humanitarian ties. To date, the progress on the plan exceeds 80%. ℹ️ Over 200 events, meetings, conferences, and industry gatherings have been held, as well as most of the expert and ministerial meetings. However, the BRICS Summit, which will open next week in the Russian city of Kazan, will be the central event. It is symbolic that the leaders’ meeting in Kazan is preceded by this Business Forum, which underscores the importance of close economic partnership between our countries, promoting trade and investment, and deepening cooperation. The BRICS partners’ joint efforts aimed at accelerating socioeconomic growth and ensuring sustainable development bring concrete, tangible results and in fact, contribute to improving the well-being and quality of life of our countries’ citizens. <...> ☝️ Among the BRICS leaders' top priorities is to promote business activity. <...> By helping and supporting each other, we will fulfil the main goal of ensuring positive progress, security and ultimately the well-being of the citizens of our nations. ❗️ BRICS is not oriented against anyone. It is aimed only at one common goal — sustainable development and prosperity of our countries and peoples. 📸© RIAN, TASS

✍️Article 'BRICS and ASEAN: Focus on Food Security and Global Cooperation' by the Ambassador of Russia to Singapore Nikolay Kudashev(August 27, 2024) 🗓 The ASEAN+BRICS Roundtable on Sustainable Trade for Global Food Security, hosted by the Diplomatic Network (Asia) on August 14, 2024, underscored the increasing focus within Southeast Asia and Singapore on fostering collaboration with #BRICS states and their institutional frameworks. The deliberations centered on refining global governance and sustainable trade practices to enhance and safeguard food security, ensuring the fulfillment of the fundamental human right to adequate nutrition in the contemporary world. The roundtable convened prominent business leaders alongside ambassadors from BRICS and ASEAN member states, engaging in three interactive panels dedicated to formulating global strategies for sustainable trade and food security. <...> The event, the Russian Embassy in Singapore took part in, emphasized the pivotal role that BRICS nations play in fortifying food security and ensuring the resilience of supply chains. These countries possess more than 30% of the world’s agricultural land and occupy a prominent position in the global agricultural market, thanks to the diverse environmental, demographic, and socio-economic conditions within their borders, which foster a wide range of agricultural products. In 2022, Russia initiated the adoption of the BRICS Strategy on Food Security Cooperation. Looking ahead, BRICS anticipates the implementation of a new four-year plan for Agricultural Cooperation under Brazil’s chairmanship in the coming year. Additionally, Russia has proposed the establishment of a grain trading platform within BRICS — the BRICS Grain Exchange — as a critical mechanism for bolstering food security. <...> The foundation of BRICS cooperation is built on principles of equality, mutual respect, openness, and the pursuit of a balanced alignment of interests. The cooperation within BRICS is anchored on three primary pillars: • policy and security, • economy and finance, • people-to-people and cultural exchanges. <...> 📈 BRICS countries now constitute 45% of the world’s population (3.6 billion people), account for over 40% of global oil production, and generate approximately a quarter of the world’s goods exports. According to the International Monetary Fund’s estimates from last year, the combined GDP of the five founding BRICS nations reached $58.9 trillion, representing 33% of global GDP. This figure surpasses the GDP of the G7 by $5 trillion, as the G7 accounts for only 30% of the global GDP. <...> As of January 1, 2024, Russia, having prioritized BRICS cooperation within its long-term foreign policy framework, assumed the BRICS chairmanship under the banner of “Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security.” This approach aligns with Russia’s fundamental national interests and complements its strategic objective of fostering a fair multipolar world order, while ensuring equitable opportunities for all nations to develop. 🇷🇺 In the context of the Russian chairmanship, over 200 events of varying scales and formats are scheduled across multiple cities in Russia. The BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Nizhny Novgorod in June 2024 addressed a broad spectrum of issues, ranging from trade, economic development, and climate change to contemporary geopolitical conflicts, including those in the Middle East, Africa, and concerns in Afghanistan and Haiti. <...> The BRICS Summit, scheduled to take place in Kazan on October 22-24, will serve as the cornerstone event of Russia’s BRICS presidency. We anticipate that representatives from all nations interested in advancing cooperation within BRICS will accord significant attention to this summit. Undoubtedly, it is poised to make a substantial contribution to the discourse on addressing the challenges and threats of our time, while also devising collective solutions to global issues and development objectives. 🎙 Deputy FM Sergey Ryabkov’s interview with PIR Center for Policy Studies (May 22, 2024) Key points: 💬 The interest towards #BRICS has been steadily growing against the backdrop of large-scale geopolitical challenges and dramatic changes taking place in the world today. • BRICS is seen as one of the pillars of a new, more equitable world order, which is designed to give all countries equal opportunities, to free the states of the Global South and Global East from the role of obedient suppliers of cheap labor and raw materials that the West imposes on them, and to consolidate the right of all nations for preserving their identity, self-determination, independent domestic and foreign policy, and protection of traditional values. Russia and other BRICS countries fully share this stance and are infavor of an honest partnership that denies any exceptionalism. • BRICS is an innovative format of interstate cooperation, bringing together different cultures and civilizations, countries with different economic and political systems <...>. Our common goal is a firm commitment to pursuing an independent domestic and foreign policy, defending sovereignty and our national interests. • As part of Russia’s BRICS Chairmanship in 2024, we intend to continue developing strategic partnership on the basis of consensus and continuity, and work to enhance its role in world affairs. It's also reflected by the motto of the Russian BRICS Year “Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security”. • The BRICS Summit in October 2024, will be the culmination of the Russian year in BRICS. We intend to continue the tradition of organizing on the sidelines meetings with developing countries. That cooperation within the BRICS framework and its mechanisms of interaction with like-minded nations will enable the voice of the Global South to sound louder and clearer in the international arena, as well as to defend our national interests and the right to choose our own path of development. 🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks during Business Council meeting on #BRICS issues (Moscow, May 31, 2024) 💬 We have agreed to focus our today’s meeting on a most pressing issue – interaction within the BRICS association. BRICS is a unique interstate format where representatives of various countries of various religions, civilizations and cultures communicate, work and elaborate joint decisions, which are subsequently implemented. All this is done on the basis of equality, mutual respect, openness and search for a balance of interests. The purpose of cooperation is understandable: to provide for the creation of favourable conditions for the economic growth of member countries, to resolve social problems and to develop innovatory human potential. No doubt that the interests of all member countries coincide in this matter and meet the hopes of other Global Majority countries, which has been confirmed by doubling our association membership in 2023 (from five to 10). This is also confirmed by the fact that over 30 states have applied for rapprochement with BRICS in one form or another. <...> The BRICS Summit is scheduled for October 2024 in Kazan. As early as next week we will hold a meeting of the BRICS Council of Foreign Ministers in Nizhny Novgorod to be attended by both full-fledged members and invited countries representing a variety of integration entities in the Global Majority as well as other partners in the BRICS+ format. <...> ☝️ We are going to give priority attention to strengthening contacts with business circles. It is because these issues just cannot be solved efficiently without you. We will encourage a direct dialogue between entrepreneurs within BRICS. The Business Council and the Women’s Business Alliance set up at Russia’s initiative are already operating. We will support your participation in these organisations in every way possible, especially this year when Russia holds the presidency. Read in full #BRICS2024

💬 “BRICS is a power providing food security, de-dollarization, UN reforms,” Dr. Nicodemus Minde, social science researcher, comments on the #BRICS 🔈The #BRICS2024 Summit debunks many myths about Russia's perceived isolation, and it also sends a strong message to the West that the world desires and thus is moving towards multipolarity. 🇷🇺 Russia’s president really makes efforts to provide food security on the African continent. 💬"This particular initiative and declaration that has been passed by President Putin and it is an effort towards a more food-secure world, especially in the continent of Africa, which still continues to really rely on grain," he said about Putin's initiative for BRICS Grain Exchange. ❗️De-dollarization is one of the aims of the BRICS, it will enable the members to develop international trade, to surpass sanctions and embargoes placed by the West. Broader reforms are needed in the UN Security Council. BRICS is pushing for the alternative voice. #BRICS#RussiaSouthAfrica

#BRICS2024 🇷🇺🇨🇳 On the sidelines of the XVI BRICS Summit in Kazan, Vladimir Putin met with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping (October 22, 2024) 💬 President Vladimir Putin: Mr President, esteemed friend! Chinese comrades and friends, I extend a warm welcome to all of you here in Russia, particularly in the Republic of Tatarstan, in Kazan, the capital of the Republic. This region is distinctive, fascinating, and rapidly developing within our nation. The people of this region, known for their industriousness and talent, can indeed take pride in their significant achievements and developmental progress. I would like to extend my personal congratulations once again to you, my dear friend, to all our Chinese friends, and to the amicable Chinese people, on the recently celebrated anniversaries. I refer to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. Over the past 75 years, Russian-Chinese relations have attained the level of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation. We can assert with complete confidence that these relations have become a paradigm of how inter-state relations should be constructed in the modern world. Our multifaceted cooperation is characterised by equality, mutual benefit, and an absolutely non-conformist nature. 📈 After last year’s record in mutual trade, Russia and China have maintained dynamic economic growth and economic interaction despite the negative external impact. According to our data, bilateral trade increased by 4.5 percent in January-August. <...> The agreements reached at our talks in Beijing in May and the meeting on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Astana are being consistently implemented. 🤝 We are successfully executing joint projects in energy, industry, high technology, transportation, agriculture and many other domains. A new logistics centre has been built here in Tatarstan, named after Deng Xiaoping. This centre facilitates cargo transportation between our countries. Humanitarian ties are also growing stronger, and cultural events are taking place as part of cross-year programmes. A total of 40 such events are planned on both sides. Mutual tourist flows, sports and educational exchanges are growing as well. As I was getting about the Kremlin yesterday, I saw large groups of Chinese tourists right there, in the heart of Russia, at the Kremlin in Moscow, as has been invariably the case in recent months and years. ❗️ Russian-Chinese cooperation in global affairs is one of the main stabilising factors in the international arena. We intend to further expand coordination at all multilateral platforms to ensure global security and promote a fairer world order. We value the traditionally high level of Russia-China cooperation within #BRICS. Over the years of our joint work, the group’s influence and prestige has considerably grown. We intend to further strengthen that entity, and we did everything we could in this regard while Russia was chairing it. After our meeting, the leaders of the BRICS countries will meet at dinner tonight, for the first time in a new, enlarged composition. <...> I am glad of this opportunity to meet with you before the summit, to make sure we are on the same page and discuss the bilateral agenda and international issues. Thank you. Thank you very much. Welcome. Read in full http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/75370 #RussiaChina
