Nearly two-thirds of Americans think Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has gone “too far” in its effort to deal with unauthorized immigration, a slight increase from just a week ago, according to a poll released Tuesday. The Ipsos poll, conducted last Friday and Saturday, found that 62 percent of U.S. adults said ICE’s actions were going too far, compared to 13 percent who said they did not go far enough and 23 percent who said it was about right. That is a four-point increase compared to a week ago, when 58 percent of Americans said current efforts went too far, demonstrating diminishing support for the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement agenda since the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti last month. Senior officials, including President Trump himself, have cast the shootings as acts of self-defense against attempts at “domestic terrorism.” Democrats have characterized them as unjustified, pointing to video footage that disputes the administration’s narratives, and lobbed intense criticism at the Department of Homeland Security. In the case of Pretti, who was shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent, the poll found that 55 percent of adults felt it was an excessive use of force, compared to 16 percent who described it as necessary and 28 percent who were unsure. It also underscored the growing backlash from within their administration’s own party, with a 10-point increase in the share of Republicans who think ICE’s effort has gone too far compared to a week ago. Still, less than one-third of Republicans agreed with that statement, whereas 92 percent of Democrats and 65 percent of Independents did. The poll found widespread agreement on the importance of conduct and training standards for immigration enforcement officers, an issue at the center of Democrats’ demand for reform. A majority also emphasized the importance of secure borders to prevent people from entering the country illegally and the enforcement of existing laws, as well as a legal path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who are already in the country, have jobs and have no criminal record. Republicans were more likely to place higher importance on the former, while Democrats viewed the latter as of higher importance. #ICE#Poll 👂More on Trump's Ear ⚠️

Most voters in a new survey say the fatal shooting of a woman in Minneapolis by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer last week was not justified, but the country remains largely divided over footage of the incident. In the latest Quinnipiac University poll, published Tuesday, 53 percent of registered voters say the ICE officer was not justified in shooting Renee Good, the 37-year-old who was shot and killed in a standoff with federal law enforcement on Jan. 7. Another 35 percent said the response was justified and 12 percent did not know. The incident, whose video footage quickly went viral last week, has polarized the public, with some agreeing with the Trump administration’s assessment that the ICE official acted in self-defense, fearing the woman would run him over. Others have also claimed the video shows the woman trying to flee from law enforcement in her vehicle when she was shot in the head by the officer. Democrats’ and Republicans’ views of the incident largely break along party lines, though the former are more unified on the matter, with 92 percent of Democratic respondents saying the shooting was not justified and 4 percent saying it was. Among Republicans, 77 percent of registered voters say the shooting was justified, while 10 percent say it was not, according to the survey. Independents, meanwhile, are more inclined to agree with Democrats, with 59 percent saying the shooting was not justified, and 28 percent saying it was, the poll found. A recent YouGov poll shows similar results, with 53 percent of Americans saying the officer was not justified in shooting Good and 28 percent saying he was. The YouGov survey also shows similar unity among Democrats, with 88 percent saying the ICE officer was not justified. Republicans, however, were more divided: 61 percent say he was justified, 24 percent are not sure and 15 percent say he was not justified. Results for independents are similar in both polls, with 58 percent saying in the Quinnipiac poll that the officer was not justified in shooting Good, 22 percent saying they’re not sure, and 20 percent saying he was justified in his actions. The latest survey, conducted Jan. 8-12, included 1,133 self-identified registered voters. The margin of error was 3.7 percentage points. #Poll#ICE 👂More on Trump's Ear ⚠️

Last Wednesday, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, who was driving a car positioned near several ICE vehicles and agents. After the shooting, members of the Trump administration claimed that the officer had acted in “self-defense,” and that Good had attempted to “run a law enforcement officer over.” However, independent reporting from TheNew York Times and The Washington Post has contradicted these claims, concluding that the ICE officer was not in the path of Good’s vehicle. #ICE#Poll 👂More on Trump's Ear ⚠️

U.S. forces swooped into Caracas before dawn on Saturday in a deadly raid that yielded the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who the U.S. military turned over to federal authorities for prosecution on charges involving alleged drug trafficking. The raid, and Trump's subsequent statement that the U.S. would now "run" Venezuela, marked a sharp departure for a president who long criticized other U.S. leaders for foreign entanglements. The move came after his administration signaled that it intended to focus primarily on the domestic economy, a significant concern for voters heading into this year's midterm elections that will determine control of Congress for the last two years of Trump's term. #Poll#Venezuela 👂More on Trump's Ear

Most Americans do not want to annex Greenland According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, only 17% of US citizens support President Donald Trump's ambitions for the Danish island. Even among Republicans, only 40% of respondents support the idea of Greenland joining the States. The rejection of military means of annexation is even stronger: only 4% of Americans would welcome an invasion — only 8% in Trump's own party. Polls look somewhat more moderate when it comes to the possible purchase of the island. But Trump doesn't have a majority here either: 47%, 35% are undecided, and only 18% are in favor. This is probably related to the price of the issue: according to NBC, the United States can offer Denmark up to 700 billion dollars for the island. Other surveys paint a similar picture. According to CNN, only 25% of Americans support the annexation of the Danish territory. After the capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and threats against Cuba, Colombia and Mexico, a certain militancy is growing in the United States: almost one in six voters expresses concern about Trump's increasingly aggressive foreign policy. #Poll#Greenland 👂More on Trump's Ear ⚠️

Majorities of Americans have positive views of U.S. relations with Greenland and Denmark and very few are supportive of the U.S. using military force to take over Greenland. Americans are five times as likely to oppose as to support a proposal to pay money to Greenland residents in order to encourage them to secede from Denmark and join the U.S. What you need to know about Americans' views on Greenland, as of the January 9 - 12, 2026 Economist / YouGov Poll: Majorities of Americans — including most Democrats and Republicans — view Greenland (61%) and Denmark (65%) as either allies or friendly to the U.S.; very few view either as an enemy or unfriendly (9% say so about Greenland and 7% about Denmark) Only 8% of Americans are in favor of the U.S. using military force to take control of Greenland; 68% are opposed to doing so Vast majorities of Democrats (89%) and Independents (72%) oppose the U.S. using military force to take control of Greenland Republicans are far more likely to oppose than support a U.S. military takeover of Greenland (45% vs. 18%), though many Republicans (37%) say they are unsure on this issue. #Poll#Greenland 👂More on Trump's Ear ⚠️

🏛💰Only 28% of Americans support the construction of Trump's ballroom. A survey by the Washington Post, ABC News, and Ipsos showed that 56% oppose the construction of a ballroom in the White House, 16% are undecided, and only 28% of Americans support it. The project is estimated to cost $400 million, according to the Independent. The ballroom is planned to be built on the site of the demolished East Wing of the White House. However, the construction has been halted by a court order, as Judge Richard Leon has prohibited further work without congressional approval. Republicans introduced a bill that would allow the construction to be paid for from the budget, although it was initially planned to be funded through private donations. After the attempted attack on the Correspondents' Dinner, Trump and his supporters argued that such events should be held at the White House, using this as a justification for resuming construction. #WhiteHouse#Poll 👂More on Trump's Ear ⚠️

Democratic candidates have notched a series of wins in recent special elections — but a new AP-NORC poll finds views of the Democratic Party among rank-and-file Democrats have not bounced back since President Donald Trump’s victory in 2024. 🗳 Only about 7 in 10 Democrats have a positive view of the Democratic Party, according to new polling from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. While the overwhelming majority of Democrats still feel good about their party, they’re much less positive than they’ve been in the past. 📊 #Democrats#Poll 👂More on Trump's Ear ⚠️
