✨Epiphany in Old Russia: a tradition of light and water In old Russia, Epiphany was observed with special dignity and quiet solemnity. After the festive liturgy, people would join a procession to the river, where the Great Blessing of Water took place. An ice hole in the shape of a cross — the “Jordan” — was carefully carved in the frozen river and decorated with evergreen branches and candles. The blessed water was then brought home and kept throughout the year, as a symbol of purification, peace, and divine blessing. In this way, Epiphany became not only a religious feast, but also a cherished part of Russia’s cultural heritage. Спасибо соотечественникам, Центру культуры и науки, и, конечно, Послу РФ в Бельгии — Токовинину Александру Аврельевичу за радушный приём! «Небо такое серое, что надо ему простить» — пел Жак Брель про Бельгию, а вот еще несколько наблюдений: 1. Самое большое количество Петров Первых за пределами России, целых 4! А в Брюсселе после внезапной пропажи бюста при повторной установке памятник развернули со стороны, где надпись на французском, на нидерландское направление) 2. Именно здесь появился стиль арт нуво. Неописуемо красивый, но, к сожалению, столь краткий. Дом Орта и Музей музыкальных инструментов обязательны к посещению. 3. В Бельгии 3 официальных языка: немецкий, голландский (фламандский) и французский. Одна из главных пословиц: «Кирпич в животе». Бельгийцы убеждены, что каждый должен построить свой дом. 4. Магритта, к сожалению, очень мало в собственном музее. Сейчас необходимо увидеть выставку в центре BOZAR, где можно буквально купаться в этом символисте 5. Крупнейшая коллекция в мире старых мастеров в Национальной галерее. Рубенс, Брегель, Давид, Энгр, Босх обязательны к «погружению»! Рекомендую прочитать книгу «Брабантский мастер Иероним Босх» 6. Guests learned about the traditions of Maslenitsa week and took part in lively folk activities: round dances, tug of war, traditional games and festive performances. The atmosphere was filled with music, laughter and the warmth of shared celebration. As tradition calls for, the evening concluded with a festive tasting — pancakes with various fillings, tea from a samovar and homemade treats — creating a truly cozy and family atmosphere.
