Kasum can no longer feel his hind legs after surgery, but there is a chance to get everything back. Help! Until recently, Kasum lived his usual street life. I looked for food, warmed myself on warm pipes and sometimes approached people. Already an adult cat, he probably understood that he would not be taken home. But they can pet you and, if you’re lucky, feed you. So, he survived as best he could. That day they decided to help him. They took him to the clinic for sterilization. This is a simple and important procedure that reduces the risk of disease and helps reduce the number of homeless animals on the street. But instead of help, he was crippled. We don't know what happened at the clinic. We were never given any answers. But the consequences became obvious immediately when the cat was taken away after 4 days of hospitalization. They tried to let him go, but he couldn’t take a single step. His hind legs did not move, Kasum fell again and again. And then he began to crawl, not understanding why his body no longer obeyed. He was urgently brought to the Center. Doctors discovered paresis of the hind limbs, poor circulation and serious intestinal problems. Without treatment, these conditions often lead to permanent disability. But Kasuma still has time. And a chance to make things right Right now doctors are already fighting for him. Every day the cat undergoes therapy aimed at restoring blood circulation and sensitivity in the paws. It is a long and difficult process that will determine whether he will be able to walk again or remain immobile forever. But treatment requires time, constant care and high costs. And now his chance not to remain disabled depends only on you and me. Kasum did not choose what happened to him. He was a victim of human negligence. But we can choose: help him or pass by. If you can, please go to the site and support the collection with any comfortable amount. It will be another day of his treatment. And another opportunity to get back on your feet. to do is choose the most loyal fan and offer her to build a house. For housing they will choose the most inaccessible places. Of course, nightingales can be found in sunny forests and city parks, but most of them prefer dense bushes near the swamp. And then come the delights of life: a modest house made of twigs, moss and grass. 4-6 eggs, from which naked, defenseless little ones will emerge. They won’t bother their parents for too long; after just 3 weeks, the little thing is ready for a solo career. My rating for nightingales: 11 gorgeous trills out of 10. Tenacious and hardworking creatures deserve respect, regardless of the biological species to which they belong. And if they are also creative personalities who ignite people’s hearts, then this lifts them to heights unattainable for most animals. - - - - - We have a huge group, which is 11 years old and there are many zoologists who write tons of text every day from the field in which they are specialists. Nightingale: Why is he the undisputed legend of birdsong? Live in a way that will delight people for thousands of years. Create in such a way that professionals compare their work with yours. Inspire, delight, motivate. And then, perhaps, you will approach the level of glory of the nightingale. Even ancient Greek thinkers admired this bird. Roman poets and European writers took up the baton. But the animal was not loved for its appearance. Of the 4 species of nightingales, only the nightingale bluethroat shows off: he put a hipster scarf on his neck and dyed his tail in parrot colors (photo 2-3). Their entire short, no more than 7 years, life is subordinated to creativity. Each nightingale writes his own, unique album! Females make do with a short single, while males can record from 7 to 23 tracks. Writing an album is quite a task. It requires a lively mind, great effort and a powerful source of inspiration. Intelligence is inherited from parents, the source of strength is insects from the lower tier of the forest. Well, nothing inspires more than a get-together of like-minded intellectuals. From early childhood, babies absorb the trills sounding around them, interpret them and give birth to something new. Thanks to this custom, each population creates its own special styles of music. A trained person can easily distinguish local nightingales from visiting wanderers by their voices. Continuity also has a downside. Males raised in captivity have no one to learn from; they are forced to invent everything from scratch, which is why their songs are meager and boring. But with nightingales everything is simple: meager melodies are a sign of a meager mind. No female will be interested in such a male. Composing beautiful songs is only a third of the work. If a gentleman wants to attract the attention of ladies, he must learn to sing well (read loudly) and create an individual concert program. During the performance, the nightingale performs its songs one after another, collecting them in blocks of 5-6 pieces. And singers can operate with these blocks as they please: move them, change the order, or, on the contrary, loop them. Great fans of nightingale singing claim that they can distinguish a specific bird by its unique manner of performance. In addition, the nightingale sings at night, and this is no coincidence: at night the acoustics are cleaner - there is less background noise. Sound travels many times further than during the day. Singing in the dark sets him apart from all his competitors - he literally owns the night air. The nightingale does not simply reproduce a fixed set of sounds - he improvises: he varies the tempo, timbre and structure of phrases. Makes expressive pauses - like a real musician. The song is built on the principle of build-up and climax, which creates a sense of drama. If the concert turns out to be exotic and complex enough, the singer will make dozens of girls fall in love with him! All he has

Olinguito: A raccoon who decided to become a monkey. The rarest animal was discovered only in 2013 Don't you think that raccoons, with their small, dexterous fingers and insatiable curiosity, could make excellent monkeys? So, they really did work out! And their name is olinguito. Olinguitos behave like real monkeys. They live strictly in trees, never descend to the ground and deftly jump between the crowns, relying on their strong legs and long tail-rudder. And their tenacious paws are capable of both grabbing any branch and clinging to the bark with short sharp claws. Yes, they even have a typically monkey diet! Normal raccoons are representatives of the order of carnivores, which, although they can eat anything, prefer meat to green meat. Whereas raccoon primates feed almost exclusively on fruits, like some kind of lemurs or tarsiers. Only occasionally do they include insects or small lizards in their diet. But, to be honest, they can be understood - with a body weight of 900 grams, you won’t do much hunting - you won’t have enough strength! But, of course, they are not an ideal copy of monkeys; they also have differences. Olinguitos are very timid, quiet and solitary creatures that do not have the monkey habit of gathering in huge flocks and yelling at the entire forest. They prefer to hide in dense crowns and go in search of food only in the dead of night. Therefore, it is extremely difficult to study them. It is so difficult that people discovered strange raccoons only in 2013. And not in their native Andean forests, but in the storerooms of the museum, where several stuffed animals had been lying idle since 1923! Until 2013, neither scientists nor local residents had any idea about the existence of olinguito. And if they met them, they mistook them for kinkajou or olingo - larger animals, the evolutionary path with which diverged more than 2 million years ago. Once it even got to the point of absurdity. A female olinguito and a male olinguito were kept in one of the cages at the Washington Zoo. And for a whole year, zoo workers and zoologists were perplexed: “Why don’t they reproduce?” And to be honest, we need to sort out the issues of olinguito reproduction as soon as possible. As soon as we discovered the funny animals, we immediately found out that their numbers were rapidly declining. Indeed, to date, about 40% of the Andean mountain forests - their natural habitat - have been destroyed. And the species' range continues to shrink year after year. degradation of their eyes, amphibians are still able to distinguish light from darkness using their tail, paws, or any other surface of the body. After all, their pale and soft integument contains melanopsin, a light-sensitive pigment. It allows them to avoid ultraviolet radiation, which is dangerous for thin skin, and remain in the cool depths of the caves. And it’s not so difficult for proteas to get food, because all their other senses are turned to the maximum. Even those that people have no trace of. Olms' sense of touch, hearing and vibration are better developed than those of terrestrial amphibians, which allows them to navigate caves without any difficulty. In addition, they rely on a much more exotic sense - electroreception. The olm has complex receptors on its head, the sensitivity of which has not yet been precisely determined. They may be able to sense the bioelectricity of large animals nearby. Or maybe even the Earth’s magnetic field! Olms also have a well-developed sense of smell, which is normal for mammals, but almost impossible for amphibians. Proteas detect prey weighing as little as 0.1 grams by scent, and seem to rely on pheromones to find breeding partners more than any other means of finding a mate. Male proteas are territorial and release pheromones during the breeding season. And the stronger the pheromone trail, the farther the competitors move away and the closer the females come. The seduced female receives a spermatophore (capsule with genetic material) from the male and lays 70 eggs. After which he goes on vacation for about 12-13 years. After all, why rush if you live a whole century? And in their exotic slowness they truly resemble the mythical dragons who exchanged years like small coins. I wouldn’t be surprised if one day scientists discover that proteas are not amphibians at all, but neotenic dragon larvae that have forgotten how to turn into adults in order to escape people with their fire, knights and castles. Proteus: "Human Fish" 100 years old. Underground waters are his dark home The European proteus is probably the most mysterious animal in Europe. In the 17th century, people believed that proteas were baby dragons, which floods sometimes carried out from their secret underground hiding places, where dragon eggs matured. In the 19th century, the southern Slavs called them “human fish” - because of their pale and thin skin, through which the vessels are visible. Well, today scientists know that these are almost ordinary amphibians. If you don’t pay attention to their ability to fast for 10 years in a row, see light with their skin and navigate by magnetic fields! Once upon a time, from 8 to 20 million years ago, proteas, colloquially called olmas, were common tailed amphibians living in the Dnar Highlands, a mountain system in the northwestern Balkan Peninsula. But several of them ended up in limestone caves, in lakes of clean and oxygen-rich, but very cold water. There they settled. Time and the habitat of the Proteas were not spared, and the generally ordinary salamanders turned into something with a snake-like body, a short tail, thin limbs and deathly pale skin. And bright red gills bloomed around their necks, which provide oxygen to underground amphibians. Well, the strangest thing is that this is not an adult. Proteus spends its entire life at the larval stage, and, by the way, it lives up to 100 years! This phenomenon is called neoteny, and it is very rare, although not unique. Due to a random mutation, the olm larvae learned to reproduce on their own right in the child’s body, and the need for adults disappeared. It disappeared so long ago that it is no longer possible to cause them to transform into an adult. European proteas, like surface salamanders, feed on snails, insect larvae, shrimp and small crustaceans. However, it is very difficult to get food in poor caves. So much so that they have developed some kind of abnormal resistance to hunger. A few weeks after their last snack, their already slow metabolism becomes extremely slow. Observations carried out from 2010 to 2018 clearly showed that a starving proteus is able to sit in one place for up to 7 years! No risk of death from exhaustion. If you don’t believe this figure now, then that’s okay; I myself can’t wrap my head around it. As well as the fact that this is not the limit. In a controlled experimental environment, proteas can survive without food for up to 10 years. Just imagine: you were born, learned to walk and talk, graduated from kindergarten, went to school and studied there for 3 years, and the proteus hasn’t even had breakfast yet. One might think that their such low hunting activity is due to complete blindness - the eyes of strange creatures have long been overgrown with skin - however, there are two errors in this sentence. Proteas do not need eyes to hunt, and they are not blind, although they do not see in the usual sense. Despite the complete
