Patrick Quinlan becomes the first National Party member elected to public office, taking one of the last two seats in Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart for Fingal County Council after a long delay caused by a Fine Gael candidate requesting a recount. Just 20 votes put him ahead of the losing Fine Gaeler which should serve as motivator for people to use their vote. We narrowly missed out on final seats at last counts in several wards. The Deputy Mayor of Limerick, Abul Kalam Azad Talukder, is returned in Limerick City West. The Bangladeshi councillor sparked controversy last November when he said he would like to see those involved in the Dublin riots shot in the head or publicly beaten until they are dead. Conor McGregor's childhood boxing coach, Phil Sutcliffe, elected in Ballyfermot-Drimnagh without reaching the quota on 1770 votes after the 10th count. Dolores "Dee Wall" Webster did well getting into the 8th Count. The current Lord Mayor of Dublin, Daithí de Róiste (FF), struggled to retain his seat but came in behind Sutcliffe in the end.
