This is a very useful discussion between KJ Noh and Jamarl Thomas. KJ lays out all the ways in which China is supporting the Axis of Resistance in the middle east (Gaza, Yemen, Iran) and also rails against those who live in the west, from where the zionists’ crimes are actually being directed, yet who rail against Russia, China, Iran etc for not ‘doing more’, when those countries and their governments are all actually on the front lines against imperialism. What KJ doesn’t explicitly get to is the need for a mass campaign of non-cooperation against the war machine by workers in the collective west. We have the power to stop this genocide in its tracks. We must organise ourselves to use it – which of course means removing from our path all the bought-off mis-leaders who are reinforcing the idea that we are weak and powerless; that we have no agency and no ability to affect anything. Military defeats can be inflicted on Anglo-American imperialism from abroad. Have just discovered the magical work (and the beautiful smile) of this wonderful music teacher, Ahmedmuin Abu Amsha, who refuses to let misery overwhelm him in the midst of all the death and destruction. (I believe he has an instagram channel where all his posts can be seen.) What struck me about this particular video is that he has taught ‘Greensleeves’ to his pupils – a sixteenth-century English folk tune. Greensleeves used to be ubiquitous in our culture. Every schoolchild learned to sing it or play it on a recorder. Today, with musical education all but eradicated in the state education system, I doubt many British kids would even recognise it. Yet here it is, a piece of our neglected folk heritage, being kept alive by Palestinian musicians, who use their music to raise their spirits and assert their humanity even as the UK-US-zionist Axis of Genocide tries to deny their right to exist and to resist.
