Winter in Russia: Not Just a Season, But a Force 🔻For Russians, winter has never been just a cold season. It has been a personified force: • Матушка-зима (femin.noun) [ma-tush-ka zee-ma] Mother Winter or • Зимушка-зима (femin.noun) [zee-mush-ka zee-ma] A folkloric, affectionate name 🔻Why this unique love? Historically, the harsh winter was both a great purifier (killing germs) and a key strategic ally. ❄️1242: The Ice Battle – Alexander Nevsky used the frozen Lake Peipus to defeat the Teutonic Knights. ❄️1812: Napoleon's Retreat – The Russian winter decimated the Grande Armée more effectively than any army. ❄️1941: The Battle of Moscow – The early, brutal frost stopped the German blitzkrieg, allowing the Red Army to regroup and counterattack. The Etymology: 🔻The word зима [zee-ma] comes from the common Proto-Indo-European root g'hei-m-, meaning cold or winter. This connects it to words like the Latin hiems and the Greek cheimōn. 🔻While other nations often see winter as an adversary, in Russian culture it became a formidable mother – harsh but protective, a test of strength and a secret weapon. This deep connection explains why winter is woven into the nation's identity, folklore, and even military history! ▶️Cognate words for зима ▶️A breathtaking Russian song with subtitles: А зима будет большая ▶️Alexander Pushkin Зимний вечер🇬🇧+🇷🇺 Video: AI #Russian_Culture #Russian_History #useful_vocabulary #Folklore 😎RCR | Support | Boost

🗓November 30, 1943 - Churchill, Stalin, Roosevelt and a cake with 69 candles 🎂 It was a dinner party at the British Embassy in Tehran on the occasion of Churchill's birthday. To pay tribute to Churchill, Joseph Vissarionovich came to the celebration in a ceremonial marshal's uniform. The birthday man was pleased with the gifts from the Soviet delegation - a large sculptural group made of porcelain based on the plot of Russian folk tales and a hat made of astrakhan fur. Roosevelt presented an Isfahan carpet and an ancient Persian bowl. Churchill’s entourage was quite surprised by Roosevelt’s toast: “While we celebrate the anniversary of the British Prime Minister, the Red Army continues to push back the hordes of Nazis. For Soviet weapons and their successes!” Stalin was pleased.

📚 I finally finished the Telegram version of my book website in English. You can find the catalog of my books here. It won't be a channel, but rather something between a writer's visiting card, a landing page, and a book repository, all in one. Here, those who are interested can get acquainted with my work. I will try to post translations more often. For now, there are the first chapters in English of my 5 books: two detective stories, two mystical stories and a children's fairy tale. As I mentioned before, I wrote most of these books back in my teens and college years, and recently decided to bring them together into one universe, moving the action to the present day. The catalog also contains information about my new, current projects. 📸 It's Zayka, my main book character.

The Hermitage's Peacock Clock: A Marvel of 18th-Century Engineering 🦚 This isn't just a clock—it's a masterpiece of automation from 1777, created by the legendary English jeweler and mechanic James Cox. 🦚It's a working zoo in miniature! The clock features three life-sized, gilded mechanical birds: a peacock, an owl, and a rooster. 🦚The magic happens every Wednesday! The mechanism is activated once a week. The peacock spreads its magnificent tail, the owl turns its head and blinks, and the rooster crows. 🦚It's a survivor. The clock was a gift to Catherine the Great and was brought to the Winter Palace in disassembled pieces. The legendary Russian inventor Ivan Kulibin spent years restoring and improving its complex mechanism. 🦚 A true symbol of the Hermitage and a breathtaking fusion of art, science, and luxury!
