#photo#Russia This is Anya Korchagina from Novosibirsk. She’s 12, and she has Progeria, a rare genetic disorder. At the age of 3, she started ageing rapidly. There is no cure, so most patients don’t live past 13. But, despite her disease, Anya lives a full life. She’s recently taken TikTok by storm. In three months, 360,000 users started following her. Anya’s videos garner millions of views. She calls herself ‘Dobby’ because she resembles a Harry Potter character. Anya is currently undergoing an experimental treatment, which might slow down the ageing processes. The subjects of our documentary, The Curious Case of My Face, know what it’s like to become old early. Check out their story and wish Anya luck with her treatment. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

Smiling icebreaker #photo#Russia The Yamal icebreaker had its trademark smile whitened during a repair. The Yamal’s smile first appeared in 1994, when the icebreaker performed humanitarian children’s cruises. But, over the years, the smile has worn out. The ship powered by two nuclear reactors is one of the world’s most powerful icebreakers. When fully loaded with 500 kg of nuclear material, she can operate for up to five years without a refuel. The Yamal cuts through 6-metre thick ice like a knife through butter. It’s truly enormous, more than 147 metres long and 30 metres wide! The ‘Yamal’ is named after the Yamal Peninsula in Russia, and it translates as ‘end of the earth’. And the ship can only traverse the cold waters, so its reactors don’t overheat. You can find out more about the life and work of icebreakers in our documentary here. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

Real-life Russian Hagrid #photo#Russia Aleksandr Biletsky has created his own fantasy world without leaving his home village. His resemblance to Harry Potter’s friend, Hagrid, isn't just physical – Aleksandr is a gamekeeper and feels most comfortable when he’s in the wild. He only lacks a hippogriff and a giant spider for friends! 🕷 Russia’s Hagrid says he feels like he ‘fits’ in his village, Agarkovo. He and his wife live in a big wooden house, or ‘terem’, which, according to Aleksandr, is also a ‘giant workshop where wizards and fairies can work their magic’. In Muggle words, they run workshops for artists and craftsmen. Do you think he looks a lot like Hagrid? Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

Covid fighter🦠🥊 #photo#Russia This young doctor runs a blog, and he chose a very creative way to do it. Oleg Abakumov makes photoshoots to support his explanatory posts about coronavirus. “The idea was to show the war against the coronavirus infection. We’re in a post-apocalyptic future because the pandemic is akin to an apocalypse,” says Oleg. He’s been in a Moscow hospital Red Zone practically from day one and has learnt the disease inside and out. He wants to share his knowledge with his followers and his patients because often complications arise from people not knowing what to do. Oleg is convinced that making medicine patient-friendly will solve that problem, at least to some degree. And a photoshoot is an option. Our new documentary about this extraordinary guy is on the way. In the meantime, scroll through this original photoset, which will also be in the film. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

The Buddhist miracle #photo#Russia Dashi-Dorzho Itigelov is considered a miracle in the Buddhist region of Buryatia. He sat in a lotus pose and sank into deep meditation nearly a century ago, but when his body was exhumed, witnesses were stunned. There was no smell, his body was perfectly preserved. His skin is still elastic and his limbs are flexible. In 1927, Dashi-Dorzho Itigelov gathered his pupils and asked them to visit him in 30 years, and to take him out of the earth in 75 years. According to his wish, he was dug out in 2002. Dashi-Dorzho Itigelov has been resting in his native Buryatia ever since. RT Documentary went to see the monk’s body in the Ivolginsky temple. Here are some pictures from a prayer service dedicated to Itigelov’s return and the 280th anniversary of Buddhism’s recognition in Russia. Have you ever heard about the incorruptible body of Dashi-Dorzho Itigelov? Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

How to call an ambulance in the middle of nowhere #photo#Russia The Nenets reindeer herders travel thousands of kilometres a year. They don’t have an address in the tundra. So what do they do if they have a medical emergency? The Nenets have maintained practically the same lifestyle their ancestors led thousands of years ago. But today’s Nenets use satellite phones to call air rescue helicopters in cases of illness, injury or labour. The Nenets are nomadic people of Russia’s Arctic. Their lives and livelihoods revolve around reindeers. They are constantly on the move in search of new pastures. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

Russian hipster Mecca #photo#Russia Nikola-Lenivets is where Moscow hipsters flock to snap selfies and cool pictures for their Instagrams. And we totally get them! Art objects, peculiar wooden sculptures, idyllic green fields are absolutely worth the 200-km trip from Moscow to the Kaluga region. Nikola-Lenivets is the name of a tiny village. It’s also a famous art park started by the artist Nikolay Polissky, who decided to stop painting oil landscapes and turn those very landscapes into pieces of art. He asked village residents to help him build 200 snowmen. Then he convinced them to build a gigantic Tower of Babel made of hay. Next came a wicker tower adorned with zucchinis. For the past 20 years, Nikolay and local craftsmen have been experimenting with art forms as part of the landscape. And everyone seems to love it. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary
