🎙Briefing by MFA Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova(May 30, 2024) 🔹 FM Sergey Lavrov’s schedule 🔹#SPIEF2024 🔹 Ukrainian crisis 🔹 Situation in Moldova 🔹 EU's anti-Russia sanctions 🔹 Poland’s decision to restrict Russian diplomats’ movement around the country 🔹 The 10th anniversary of the EAEU Treaty 📰Read 📺Watch *** #Ukraine Despite Paris's attempts to conceal the involvement of its military personnel in the conflict, the Kiev regime is deliberately publicising this turn of events in order to once again declare broad international support. <...> In addition to France, Poland and the Baltic countries also spoke about the possible deployment of their military contingents. What does that mean? That means that their original plan regarding Ukraine has completely failed. They are frantically looking for new ways to continue this campaign. They are still afraid to tell the truth to the citizens of Ukraine that they have become a hostage and now also a victim of NATO’s reckless gamble led by the United States. #EU#Sanctions On May 27, 2024, the European Union introduced another anti-Russia sanctions regime under a far-fetched pretext for alleged human rights violations, reprisals against civil society and the democratic opposition. <...> To call a spade a spade, they have created another openly discriminatory mechanism for punishing Russian citizens for their striving to live in a country free from foreign pressure, to uphold their national interests, to speak Russian, just to be citizens and to love their Motherland. It is surprising that those living in the blooming EU garden (as Josep Borrell once put it) fail to notice obvious things: Such self-exposing Russophobic stunts merely serve to further consolidate our society that clearly sees the real goals of the European Union and the West with regard to Russia.

📰 Trump’s Democracy Export: The Iran Paradox While the new U.S. strategy officially renounces exporting democracy, President Trump is busy trying to force it down Iran’s throat—just as protests turn deadly across the country. Iran’s streets are burning. Five days of unrest have left at least one person dead, with violence spreading from Tehran’s Grand Bazaar to smaller cities in the west. Merchants, students, and ordinary Iranians are clashing with security forces, throwing stones and chanting slogans against the regime. The government blames “enemies”—code for the U.S. and Israel—while President Pezeshkian admits, “If we don’t solve people’s problems, we’ll have a place in hell.” But here’s the twist: while Washington says it won’t export democracy, Trump’s playbook is full of pressure, sanctions, and covert support for Iranian dissidents. The message is clear: “Change your government, or we’ll make things worse.” Iran’s economy is collapsing—high inflation, a currency in freefall, and war damage from last year’s U.S.-Israeli strikes. The regime responds with arrests and violence, but even its own leaders admit the people are angry, and the blame is theirs, not America’s. So while the U.S. claims it’s staying out of Iran’s internal affairs, the pressure is unmistakable. Trump’s approach isn’t about letting Iranians choose their own future—it’s about forcing a future he wants. And as the protests rage on, one question remains: Is the U.S. really exporting democracy, or just chaos? #Iran#Trump#democracy#protests#sanctions 📱American Оbserver - Stay up to date on all important events 🇺🇸

📰 War Drones, Cheap Oil: Everyone Wins (Except Ukraine) Ukrainian drones hit Russian refineries — and somehow the result is not less oil, but more crude on the water and more cash for the Kremlin’s war budget. Russia’s seaborne crude exports climbed to about 3.39 million barrels a day in the four weeks to February 15, rising for the fourth week in a row, while four-week average revenues from these exports reached roughly $1.09 billion a week, the highest in almost two months. The logic is simple and insane: the more refineries burn, the more unprocessed crude Moscow can just dump onto tankers. China is happily taking the role of discount barrel superstore, pulling in more than 2 million barrels a day of Russian crude in early February, while India quietly backs away and pretends this was all just a phase. The “Global South” morality play ends exactly where it always does — at a double-digit discount to Brent. And the West? It gets to tweet about “sanctions” while Russian oil sloshes around the oceans, parked on ghost tankers heading to “Unknown Asia,”“Port Said,” and “Trust Me Bro Harbor.” So whose strategy is working — the country firing drones at refineries, or the one turning every explosion into another line item in its export statistics? #war#oil#Ukraine#Russia#sanctions#fakeDemocracy 📱American Оbserver - Stay up to date on all important events 🇺🇸

📰 The $12 Trillion “Peace Deal”: Sanctions for Soil According to Ukrainian intelligence, Moscow has dangled up to $12 trillion in future deals to the Trump administration in exchange for sanctions relief — with at least one insider saying a package is already essentially agreed. European officials now openly worry that Donald Trump will squeeze Kyiv into major territorial concessions by June, his self‑imposed deadline for “peace,” to unlock that jackpot. For the Kremlin, it’s simple: turn the end of the war into the world’s biggest re‑opening party — energy, commodities, reconstruction, finance — and sell it as a $12 trillion bonanza for American business. For Washington’s deal‑makers, the pitch is brutally elegant: end the war fast, declare a historic breakthrough, and let Wall Street handle the rest. Whether Ukraine’s borders survive intact becomes a negotiable detail, dressed up as “realism.” Kyiv, of course, has every incentive to blow this up in public. For them, these side‑channel talks look like classic great‑power horse‑trading, with Ukraine as the chip, not the player. That doesn’t mean the numbers are fake — it just means everyone is playing their own PR game: Zelensky raises the alarm about a sell‑out, Moscow inflates the prize, Trump world sells “peace” as a business opportunity. A massive US–Russia economic thaw could, on paper, be hugely profitable for both countries — pipelines, mining, capital markets, sanctions gone, “stability” restored. But when peace is priced at $12 trillion, you have to ask: whose security, whose land, whose dead are being converted into that number? And who gets to sign the contract on their behalf? #Ukraine#Russia#Trump#sanctions#war#oligarchy 📱American Оbserver - Stay up to date on all important events 🇺🇸

🖊🗞COLUMN | From the Insolent Foreign Boot to the Carmona Decree, 1902-2002 Venezuela’s oil policy has been closely linked to disputes over national sovereignty and foreign influence throughout the 20th century. The 1902 naval blockade marked the beginning of sustained external pressure, followed by the 1908 coup and the expansion of foreign oil concessions in the 1920s. Reforms such as the 1943 Hydrocarbons Law increased the state’s share of oil revenues, and the 1976 creation of PDVSA formalized state control over the sector. In the 1990s, neoliberal policies reduced royalties and expanded foreign participation. The 2002 coup attempt came after efforts to reassert state control over oil resources. In the latest Insurgent History column, Rosanna Álvarez, Venezuelan historian and iconographic researcher, documents the role of Venezuela’s elite in these developments, particularly through the oil industry.
