#AmbassadorSpeaks 🎙Russian Ambassador to South Africa Roman Ambarov in an Interview with Sputnik Africa: Question:How are Russia and South Africa currently working together to preserve their shared historical heritage, including the history of Russian involvement with the Boers? 💬Roman Ambarov: Russia supported the Boers in their war with the British Empire at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It is important to view these events in their proper historical context, as part of a wider struggle against imperial expansion. That war was a tragically difficult chapter. Farms were destroyed, civilians suffered greatly, and tens of thousands of women and children died in British concentration camps. According to some historians, the British were the first to introduce systematic detention of civilians on a large scale. And it was the British army from whom Hitler later borrowed the said methods. Visiting places like the War Museum of the Boer Republics makes this history very real – you can truly feel the human cost behind the events we speak about. More than a century ago, this conflict deeply resonated with people in Russia. It was seen as a struggle of a nation defending its independence and the way of life. And this solidarity was not only expressed in words. Up to 270 Russian volunteers traveled thousands of kilometres to join Boer commandos. They shared the hardships of war: many were wounded, some were captured, and some never returned home. Emperor Nicholas II closely followed the course of the war and, in personal letters, expressed his satisfaction at the successes of the Boers. Russia’s support also went far beyond the battlefield. Russian medical teams, including a Red Cross detachment and a Russian-Dutch ambulance unit, worked under extremely difficult conditions, helping the wounded, civilians, and prisoners of war. ❗️Their mission was humanitarian, guided by compassion, not politics. Recently I visitedthe city of Newcastle where this medical hospital was deployed. And I was wholeheartedly impressed that the memory about its work and Russian medics is still being kept, revered and cherished by the local community. There are also lasting, very tangible symbols of this connection. In Bloemfontein, the Oranje Girls’ School was established with support from the Russian Imperial Court – a reminder that these ties were not only forged in wartime, but also in efforts to build and support communities. Today, we continue this work of preserving our shared history. Every year, the Embassy takes part in commemorative events in Utrecht, KwaZulu-Natal, where the monument to Russian Captain Leo Pokrowsky, who died during the war, is located, as well as the Wall of Memory bearing the names of around 90 Russian volunteers. On the Embassy’s website, we are developing a digital map of key historical sites of Russia-South Africa relations. It helps users navigate memorial places across the country. And we will continue this work. 🤝 We are also teaming with South African partners, including museums and research institutions, to preserve and share historical documentation. The transfer of unique archival materials earlier this year to the War Museum of Boer Republicsin Bloomfontein, Fort Amiel Museum in Newcastle and the Old Parsonage Museum in Utrecht, is a practical way of keeping this shared memory alive. ☝️ Once again, I would like to emphasise that Russia supported the Boers in their struggle against British imperial expansion, and later supported South Africa in the fight against apartheid. Russia and South Africa share important pages of common history. This is not just about the past. The legacy of solidarity between Russians and South Africans remains a meaningful foundation for our relations today. #RussiaSouthAfrica #AmbassadorAmbarov #AmbarovSputnikAfrica

✉️President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to the participants and guests of the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons(April 30, 2026) ✍️ I welcome you on the occasion of the opening of the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (#NPT). The obligations stipulated by the Treaty regarding the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, disarmament and the peaceful use of nuclear energy are of fundamental importance for international security and fully meet the interests of both nuclear- and non-nuclear-weapon states. Our country – as a responsible participant and one of the depositaries of the NPT – strictly follows the Treaty's letter and spirit. We believe that, in the current difficult international situation, additional multilateral efforts are required to create conditions for further progress towards building a world free of nuclear weapons, while strictly observing the principle of undiminished security for all. We proceed from the understanding that all countries that fulfil their obligations under the NPT in good faith have the inalienable right to enjoy the benefits of the peaceful atom without any restrictions. I would like to reaffirm that Russia, as one of the leaders in nuclear energy, stands ready to continue developing constructive cooperation in this area with all interested States Parties to the Treaty. We expect the Conference to be productive and to make a significant contribution to strengthening the nuclear non-proliferation regime and ensuring peace, security and stability across the planet. 🤝 I wish you every success in your work and all the very best. VLADIMIR PUTIN

🇷🇺🎙Comment by the Russian Embassy in the Netherlands toRIA Novosti(30 April 2026) Has the Embassy seen reports about militants from the terrorist organization “Russian Volunteer Corps” (RVC) using weapons supplied by the Netherlands to Ukraine? 🔹 Yes, we are, of course, aware of these reports. We have taken note of the evasive responses from officials in The Hague, seen the photos of "RVC" militants posing with Dutch C7NLD rifles, and observed their use of Nazi salutes. 🔹The crimes committed by the "RVC" against civilians are well known internationally. Judging by the reaction, however, the Dutch authorities appear to be the only ones unwilling to acknowledge this. 🔹We have repeatedly warned the Dutch authorities about the risks associated with uncontrolled arms transfers to the Kiev regime, which maintains links with various radical groups. The Embassy has consistently pointed to the danger of such weapons being diverted and falling into the hands of openly neo-Nazi elements. 🔹The current situation is a direct consequence of the Kingdom’s irresponsible policy.By allowing its weapons, including C7NLD assault rifles, to end up in the possession of individuals who openly glorify Nazi criminals and incite hatred, the Dutch authorities are, in effect, complicit in these crimes. 🔹 The designation of the “Russian Volunteer Corps” as a terrorist organization is well founded: it bears responsibility for war crimes, including the killing of civilians in Russia. 🔹Claims by the Dutch authorities that they are not involved, based on assurances from Kiev regarding compliance with international law, are unconvincing and appear to be an attempt to avoid responsibility. 🔹 Lame excuses about “end-user certificates” and the “right to self-defence” do not withstand scrutiny when Dutch-supplied weapons are found in the hands of an organization that openly promotes neo-Nazi ideology and carries out terrorist acts. ❗️These developments are, of course, being taken into account by Russia in its military and political planning.

⚡️Comment by Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov following the telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump(April 29, 2026) 💬 Yuri Ushakov: Another telephone conversation has taken place between President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of the US Donald Trump. The conversation lasted more than an hour and a half. The Presidents spoke in afriendly, frank and business-like manner. Naturally, Vladimir Putin first expressed words of support to the US President in connection with the assassination attempt against him on April 25 at the Washington Hilton hotel. Fortunately, neither Donald Trump, nor his wife, nor anyone in his entourage was harmed. The Russian Leader strongly condemned this crime, stressing, in particular, the inadmissibility of any form of politically motivated violence. ☝️Vladimir Putin described Donald Trump’s decision to extend the ceasefire with Iran as the right step. This should give negotiations a chance and, overall, help stabilise the situation. At the same time, the Russian President drew attention to the inevitable and extremely damaging consequences – not only for Iran and its neighbours, but for the entire international community – should the US and Israel once again resort to the use of force. ❗️Needless to say, the option of a ground operation on Iranian territory would be entirely unacceptable and dangerous. Russia is firmly committed toproviding comprehensive assistance to diplomatic efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the crisis and has put forward a number of considerations aimed at resolving differences around Iran’s nuclear programme. As for the Ukrainian settlement, the US President emphasised the importance of ending hostilities as soon as possible, as well as his readiness to contribute to this in every possible way. His authorised representatives will continue contacts both with Moscow and Kiev. Donald Trump believes that a deal that would put an end to the conflict in Ukraine is already within reach. At Trump’s request, Vladimir Putin described the current situation along the line of contact, where our troops retain the strategic initiative and continue to push back enemy positions. It was also noted that since the beginning of 2025, Russia has repatriated more than 20,000 bodies of fallen Ukrainian servicemen, while Ukraine has returned just over 500 bodies to Russia. Both Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump essentially shared similar assessments of the conduct of the Kiev regime led by Zelensky, which, incited and supported by the Europeans, is pursuing a line aimed at prolonging the conflict. 👉 The Russian Leader stated plainly that Kiev is resorting to openly terrorist methods by attacking purely civilian facilities on Russian territory. The Russian President reaffirmed that the goals of the special military operationwill be achieved in any case. Naturally, we would prefer this to be the result of a negotiating process, for which Zelensky must respond positively to the well-known proposals that have been put forward repeatedly, including by the American Side. Notably, Donald Trump gave a positive assessment of Russia’s recently announced Easter ceasefire. In this context, Vladimir Putin informed his American counterpart of his readiness to announce a ceasefire for the period of Victory Day celebrations as well. Donald Trump actively supported this initiative, noting that the holiday marks our shared Victory over Nazism in World War II. When discussing Russia-US relations, both Sides spoke about the great potential for mutually beneficial projects in the economy and energy sectors. The Presidents noted that a number of large-scale economic initiatives are already being substantively discussed between representatives of our countries. 🤝The Presidents agreed to stay in contact – both personally and at the level of their aides and representatives. The Presidents parted warmly and wished each other all the best. *** The conversation was conducted at the initiative of the Russian Side. #RussiaUSA

⚡️Statement by the Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization at the 2026 Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non‑Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons(New York, 28 April 2026) ✍️ We, the Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), reaffirm our unwaveringcommitment to preserving and strengthening the Treaty on the Non‑Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). Since its entry into force, the #NPThas served as one of the foundations of international security architecture. The near-universal nature of the Treaty testifies not only to its uniqueness but also to its high relevance in the current challenging international environment. Having proven its effectiveness, the NPT continues to play a key role in preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons. The equal importance of the three fundamental pillars of the NPT — disarmament, non-proliferation and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy — is key to ensuring that the Treaty not only can withstand current challenges and threats, but also remain the basis for inter-State cooperation in these areas for many years to come. Amid growing turbulence, marked by the erosion of arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation treaties and agreements, as well as by increased risks of an arms race outbreak and conflict escalation, the task of preserving and strengthening the NPT assumes particular importance. Fulfilling this task calls for collective efforts of States Parties to maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the Treaty in line with their obligations. <...> We have to note that in recent years the NPT review process has been facing seriouschallenges and disagreements, including on several politicised matters. This, coupled with persistent destabilising trends within the NPT and external factors adversely affecting the Treaty, hampers the achievement of consensus decisions and undermines progress towards implementing all the Treaty's core objectives. 👉 This is evidenced by the absence of final documents at the two previous NPT Review Conferences. We call upon the States participating in the 11th NPT Review Conference to engage in a constructive, substantive and inclusive dialogue based on consideration of the interests of all Sides. We believe it essential to focus our efforts on developing consensus-based decisions and strengthen the Treaty regime and its three pillars. The CSTO Member States stand ready to cooperate with all delegations in order to ensure a balanced and comprehensive review of all three fundamental pillars of the NPT. We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to our obligations under the Treaty and our intention to continue coordinating efforts aimed at its preservation and strengthening in the interests of maintaining international peace and security. We hope that all States participating in the Conference will strive to develop agreed approaches and compromise solutions. Only through such concerted efforts can we lay the groundwork for positive outcomes at the 11th NPT Review Conference that would be acceptable to all States Parties. This will be a meaningful contribution towards our common objective: strengthening of the NPT. Read in full

📆April 30 — Day of Indigenous Peoples of the Russian Federation Today, Russia marks a new national holiday established by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, signed on November 4, 2025, “On the Day of Indigenous Peoples of the Russian Federation.” The date coincides with the adoption in 1999 of the federal law “On Guarantees of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of the Russian Federation.” 🇷🇺 Around 200 ethnic groups live in Russia in peace and harmony, 47 of which are classified as Indigenous small-numbered peoples. Their unique cultures, languages, traditional lifestyles, and crafts are an integral part of Russia’s historical and spiritual heritage. ❗️Preserving their ancestral habitats, supporting traditional ways of life, and ensuring their rights and legitimate interests remain key national priorities. Russia consistently develops international cooperation in this field, including within the framework of theInternational Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022–2032). 📚 To support these efforts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, in cooperation with the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North (RAIPON) and Russian Committee for the UNESCO Information for All Programme, has prepared a dedicated collection of documents “#ChartersOfNorthernPeoples”, reflecting legal mechanisms for the protection and support of Indigenous peoples. 🤝 Supporting Indigenous peoples contributes to strengthening interethnic harmony, preserving cultural diversity, and ensuring sustainable development.

🇷🇺🇨🇬President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of the Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso held talks in the Kremlin (Moscow, 29 April 2026) 💬Vladimir Putin: As we were walking here, Mr President and I recalled that the first bilateral treaty was signed back in 1981. Since that time, Russia (then the USSR) and the Congo have enjoyed friendly, full-fledged and good relations. I would like to congratulate you on the results of the election. We greatly appreciate that Russia is the first foreign country you have chosen to visit after your inauguration. Thank you as well for receiving our delegation headed by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak. He also reported to me on that visit. We have good prospects for developing our relations across various areas. As for the economy, these include geological exploration, energy, logistics, agriculture and several other areas. Our companies are ready and willing to work in your country’s market, primarily because you have a stable domestic political situation, which creates good prospects for business. The intergovernmental commissions are working. I would also like to draw attention to humanitarian cooperation – above all, personnel training. Over previous years, 8,000 specialists for the Congo have been trained in Russia, and now 850 young people continue their studies in Russia. We continue to work actively on the international stage and at international platforms. We are grateful to you for your active participation in the Russia-Africa Summits. We are now preparing the Third Summit for this autumn. We count on your personal participation and invite you to Moscow. *** During your visit, a joint plan of action for the coming years in the economic sphere is to be signed. I know that your programme includes a visit to the Federation Council and a tripto St Petersburg. 🤝 I am confident that your visit will be successful and will contribute to the development of relations between our nations. #RussiaCongo
