European Commission Supports Dutch AI Oversight System Hello, everybody! The European Commission is aiding the Netherlands in establishing a national Artificial Intelligence supervision system. The rapid growth of AI technology has outpaced regulatory frameworks, posing challenges for ensuring safety and ethical standards. To address this, the Commission has launched a technical support project in collaboration with UNESCO to assist the Dutch Authority for Digital Infrastructure. This initiative will assess existing AI supervision systems, offer best practices, create supervision scenarios, and provide practical guidance to the Dutch Authority. It will also involve other EU competent authorities to collectively tackle the complex challenges of overseeing AI technologies. This project aligns with the forthcoming Artificial Intelligence Act, the EU's first AI regulation, designed to enhance research and industrial capacity while safeguarding fundamental rights and safety. Once approved, it will set the world's first rules on AI. #AIRegulation#EuropeanAI#AIInnovation

France calls for balance in AI regulation to foster European innovation France's Digital Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, has expressed concerns about the European Parliament's stance on the proposed AI Act, according to Laura Kayali from POLITICO. Barrot believes that the regulations are too strict and could hinder the development of European companies' foundational AI models. He highlighted Google's decision not to launch its chatbot Bard in the EU as an example. France, which has previously taken a strict approach towards regulating Big Tech, now aims to support domestic companies to compete with major players like Google and OpenAI. President Emmanuel Macron and former Digital Minister Cédric O have advocated for finding a balance between regulation and innovation. Will such balance be found? #AIRegulation#EuropeanAI#AIAct#France#EuropeanParliament
