— Inside what appears to be the abandoned Palace of Culture of Communication Workers in St. Petersburg. You’ve probably noticed this building if you’ve ever strolled along the Moyka River embankment. The palace itself is, let’s say, an acquired taste — but the views from it are absolutely cosmic! Photo: @topotkotov_photo 📍Coordinates: Yandex Maps #StPetersburg 🏙️Beyond Moscow🏔️

Is it true that Russians have bears as pets? 🔻Oh, the age-old question! And ... sometimes, yes, they do! But let's be real: bears are last century. The real trendsetters? Big cats! 🔻Meet Ekaterina, for instance. This incredible woman didn't just get a cat; she welcomed a lynx into her home! Hannah, the magnificent lynx, is all grown up and, get this, she's expecting kittens! A growing family needs room to roam, especially when you're a wild cat about to give birth and raise a litter of active little furballs. So, what did they do? They built Hannah her very own, spacious enclosure! Now, Ekaterina doesn't just visit her majestic friend; she can even stay the night! 🔻But wait, there's more to this animal kingdom than just Hannah! This incredibly warm family also shares their lives with an entire menagerie: lynxes, cougars, raccoons, beavers, dune cats, Maine Coons, elegant Singapura cats, loyal dogs, mini-piggies! One of the episodes associated with Shuvalovsky Park (St Petersburg) is the romantic and sad story of the life of one of its owners – Countess Varvara Petrovna Shuvalova. 🔻Princess Varvara Petrovna first married at the age of 18 to Count Pavel Andreevich, who was 20 years her senior. The Count was a hero of the War of 1812. The marriage was happy, and two sons were born. But in 1823, Count Shuvalov died. Varvara Petrovna grieved, and went abroad. 🔻Three years later, she met Adolphe Polier, a handsome Swiss man, and married him. The couple loved each other and were happy. Adolphe put the estate's affairs in order, inspected the extensive holdings in the Urals, and discovered a diamond deposit there. But after this trip, he fell ill and died in 1830. 🔻The Countess's grief was immense. For the burial of her husband, a crypt in the Gothic style was built in the park in the same year, designed by the architect Bryullov. In the summer of 1831, a church was laid. Varvara Petrovna grieved for several years, to the point that her lifestyle began to be considered eccentric. 🔻This continued for several years. During this period, Adolphe's Alley was created in the park, and a bridge, the Polier Bridge, was built across the stream on this alley. 🔻After mourning her beloved husband for three years, Varvara Petrovna leaves St. Petersburg and goes to Europe. There she meets her new chosen one, the German Georg Wilding, Prince Butera, but her third husband also died five years after the wedding. Varvara Petrovna died and was buried in Wiesbaden in 1870. 🔻There is a legend that Varvara Petrovna made a vow at Adolphe's grave, but broke it by marrying a third time. Therefore, she could not find peace, and her ghost appears near the crypt at night. #brief_and_interesting #StPetersburg 😎RCRussian | Support | Boost

The Griboyedov Canal is one of the oldest in Saint Petersburg! 🔻Originally, the canal was called the Catherine Canal, after Empress Catherine II, during whose reign it was constructed. 🔻In 1923, the canal was renamed Griboyedov Canal, after the writer Alexander Griboyedov, and later simply the Griboyedov Canal. 🔻The renaming was part of a general Soviet-era policy aimed at replacing names associated with the Tsarist family with those of figures from Russian culture. 🔻Alexander Sergeyevich Griboyedov did indeed live in one of the houses along the canal's embankment, which likely served as the main reason for choosing his name for the renaming. At 26 Dvortsovaya Embankment stands one of the most magnificent palaces in St. Petersburg: the Vladimir Palace. 🔻Meshmacher's Golden Staircase in the Neo-Baroque style in this palace is considered a true masterpiece. 🔻The staircase connects the ceremonial part of the palace with the first floor and the Lower Dining Room, where Vladimir Alexandrovich could descend with his colleagues and friends for informal meetings. 🔻Today, this former residence of Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich houses the House of Scientists, whose staff carefully preserves the interiors of the halls and unique art collections, and also periodically conducts tours for those who wish. 📍Geoposition: Dvortsovaya Embankment, 26; St Petersburg, Russia Photos: lily.in.city #around_Russia #StPetersburg 😎RCRussian | Support | Boost
