🎥 Films by Russian director Andrey Porshnyak are scheduled to be screened at the seconds annual Thokoza Film Festival in South Africa 📍The festival will be taking place from 29 October to 2 November in the city of Thokoza in the north of the country. 🤝 The TV BRICS International Media Network will present a special programme with films from Argentina, Brazil, India, China and Russia. In particular, the films "Golden Coast of the Arctic" and "Heilongjiang: Zone of Sustainable Economic Development" by director Andrey Porshnyak, the Indian film "Water" by Diya Mari Shaju and Diya Futan, "Counterattack" by Brazilian Victor Uchoa and the Argentine film "My Brother Joaquin" by Luciano Giardino. 🇷🇺 The events of Andrey Porshnyak’s film "Golden Coast of the Arctic" took place in the very north in the city embraced by ice and endless tundra. One of the five largest gold deposits in Russia, Mayskoye, is located here. The reserves explored here will definitely be sufficient until 2032. As many years ago, people from the Mainland are helping to explore the permafrost territory. 🗓 On October 14, 1943, the only successful mass uprising in the Nazi death camp took place in Sobibor. Red Army Lieutenant Alexander Pechersky, a prisoner himself, led the inmates to their successful escape. 🕯 Sobibor was one of the death camps created exclusively for the extermination of people the Nazis considered inferior. At Sobibor, 250,000 people were mercilessly gassed or shot . Prisoners were tortured, starved and subjected to medical experiments. The victims were predominantly Polish Jews, though many were brought from Austria, Czechoslovakia, and the Netherlands. At the time of the uprising, there were approximately 550 prisoners in the camp. They considered the arrival of the Soviet prisoners of war, including Alexander Pechersky, as a source of inspiration. One of the survivors, Kalmen Wewryk, later wrote in his memoirs: They had combat experience and knew everything there was to know about rifles, bullets, etc. They did not hesitate to engage in close combat. Pechersky literally exuded authority and confidence. Although many perished in the attempt, 300 prisoners managed to escape. Unfortunately, Polish peasants turned most of them in to the Nazis, whereupon the Ukrainian collaborationists executed them by firing squad. The Sobibor case formed part of the charges against Nazi criminals at the Nuremberg Trials, and the accounts of eyewitnesses and participants in the uprising have become the basis of numerous books and several feature films. #Victory79#WeRemember

🗓 On Nov 9-10, Sochi will host the 1st Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership at Sirius University, in accordance with the decisions of the 2nd Russia-Africa Summit. Mr. Roman Ambarov assumes duties as the Ambassador-designate of Russia to South Africa and Lesotho. 🔸 Mr. Roman Ambarov, born in 1968, graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) in 1990 and joined the diplomatic service. He worked in different positions at the Russian Foreign Ministry’s central office and abroad. In 2008-2012, he served as the Minister-Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Malaysia, in 2012-2015 – as the deputy director of the Department of Special Communications of the Russian Foreign Ministry. ☝In 2015-2019, Mr. Ambarov was posted as Russia’s Consul General in Cape Town, South Africa. In 2019-2024, he worked as the deputy director of the Personnel Department, then deputy director and later director of the Security Department of the Foreign Ministry. On 6 September 2024, he was appointed Russia’s Ambassador to South Africa and Lesotho. Mr. Roman Ambarov holds the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. He speaks English and Polish.
