On July 24, 1959, at the exhibition in Sokolniki, during a heated argument, Nikita Khrushchev angrily blurted out to Richard Nixon: • Мы ещё покажем вам кузькину мать! SLT: We will yet show you Kuzka's mother! 🔻MFA interpreter Yuri Lepanov was not prepared for such an outburst and dutifully translated it into English as: "We will show you Kuzma's mother," which greatly puzzled the journalists. ▶️Я покажу вам кузькину мать! #history #USSR #brief_and_interesting 😎RCR | Support | Boost

• Не забудем, не простим! [ni za-bu-dim, ni pras-tim] We will not forget, we will not forgive! 🔻This slogan appeared 80 years ago, on October 14, 1941, in the headline of a front-line correspondence in the newspaper "Красная Звезда" (Red Star), which spoke about the atrocities of the German occupiers. 🔻For this series the artist received the Stalin Prize. 🔻These are works of great life and artistic truth. This is a moving narrative by the artist, capturing the monstrous atrocities and violence of the German-fascist fiends, the suffering and courage of the Soviet people. #Russian_culture #WW2 #USSR #Russian_Arts 😎RCR | Support | Boost

On June 24, 1945, the Victory Parade took place on Red Square, Moscow. 🔻The parade commenced at 10:00 AM with Marshal Georgy Zhukov's entrance on a white horse. Marshal Konstantin Rokossovsky commanded the parade, and they both inspected the troops. 🔻Finding a white horse which was supposed to symbolize the Victory, for Marshal Zhukov was no easy task, but one was found in the NKVD troops. Its name was Кумир (Idol). 🔻The preparations for the parade lasted a month. During this time, Zhukov got used to the horse, and the horse was trained not to be afraid of loud noises. To achieve this, an orchestra was present at the riding practices. 🔻The parade featured combined regiments from ten fronts, the Navy, military academies, and the Moscow garrison, including war heroes and distinguished soldiers. 🔻Key moments included the carrying of 36 battle flags of distinguished units and the symbolic disposal of 200 captured Nazi banners at the foot of Lenin's Mausoleum. 🔻Later, at a reception in the Kremlin, Stalin gave a toast, saying: Our government has made not a few mistakes... Another nation might have said to the government: You have not justified our expectations, go away... But the Russian people did not do that...Thank you, the Soviet people, for the trust... #brief_and_interesting #WW2 #memorible_date #USSR 😎RCR | Support | Boost

On June 19, 1920, the Council of People's Commissars adopted a decree establishingthe All-Russian Extraordinary Commission for the Elimination of Illiteracy (Всероссийская чрезвычайная комиссия по ликвидации безграмотности, or ВЧК ликбез, ВЧК for short). • ЛИКвидация БЕЗграмотности [lik-vi-da-tsy-ya biz-gra-mat-nas-ti] Elimination of illiteracy Abbreviation: Ликбез 🔻The resolutions of the established commission were mandatory. It was formed to implement the decree on the elimination of illiteracy and oversaw the education of illiterate and semi-literate people. 🔻Anatoly Lunacharsky, the People's Commissar of Education, was responsible for the commission's affairs. 🔻Likbez became a crucial stage in the formation of the Soviet education system, which encompassed various educational institutions for different segments of the population, thereby contributing to the development of science and technology. 🔻Check some more details in the comments👇 Photos: open Internet sources #brief_and_interesting #retrophotos #USSR 😎RCR | Support | Boost

🥳Today we celebrate: • День Пионерии Pioneer Day 🔻Pioneers – Heirs of the Scouts. 🔻Children's and youth organizations existed in Russia even before the revolution, most notably the Scout movement. 🔻After the revolution, the Scout movement was banned, but many of its forms were used in 1922 during the creation of the Pioneer organization, including the slogan 'Будь готов! - Всегда готов!' (Be prepared/ready! - Always prepared/ready!) 🔻In 1970, there were 23 million Pioneers in the country, and over 200 million Soviet citizens passed through the Pioneer organization in total! I was a Pioneer too! 🔻There was a Pioneer version of the phrase used to affirm the truthfulness of one's words: Честное слово!Literally: Honest word! I swear! Honestly! • Честное пионерское! (I give you my) honest pioneer's (word)! = I swear! #holidays #useful_vocabulary #USSR 😎RCRussian | Support | Boost

Did you know that in the USSR there used to be a female newly-invented name 'Даздраперма'? • Даздраперма [da-zdra-per-ma] 🔻It came from a Soviet slogan: • ДА ЗДРАвствует ПЕРвое МАя! Long life the first of May! Photo: 1 May, 1968, Lvov, USSR, Ilya Pavlyuk #USSR #holidays 😎RCRussian | Support | Boost

Happy May Day, dear comrades! 🔻In July 1889, the Paris Congress of the Second International, in memory of the workers' demonstration (1886), decided to hold annual May Day demonstrations. 🔻During the Soviet era, May 1st was widely celebrated with parades and performances by workers and creative teams. 🔻I myself remember the mandatory participation of schoolchildren in these parades. We made huge white or red flowers🌷out of crepe paper with our own hands and waved them during the parade. It was fun, by the way. 🔻Now, the May Day celebrations are simpler; it's more of an opportunity to spend the day with loved ones and family. 🔻May Day is often associated with шашлыки [shash-ly-ki] barbecues, as warm weather arrives during this holiday period, and Russians enjoy spending time with family and friends in the forest or at their dachas.
