🗒️🗣️ INTERVIEW | Heyerde López: ‘Our Challenge Is Staying True as a Left-Wing Organization’ In the latest VA interview, activist Heyerde López reflects on the structural challenges facing grassroots organizing in Venezuela, pointing to the difficulty of sustaining long-term projects while maintaining political coherence. López, a member of "Fundación Nativa Crea" in Guarenas, frames this as a central tension: “The main challenge is staying true to our identity as a left-wing organization,” he says, highlighting mounting economic pressures and contradictions in the relationship between popular power initiatives and state institutions. US sanctions and restrictions on wheat imports forced the closure of the group’s community bakery and café, key nodes in its local production network. The experience underscores how external constraints continue to impact grassroots economic initiatives. The collective is now working to relaunch these projects, with an emphasis on rebuilding communal forms of production and strengthening local productive capacity. Despite these setbacks, "Fundación Nativa Crea" remains embedded in broader networks of communes and social movements, while expanding its work in political education, communications, and grassroots production. Voting took place across 5,336 communal circuits, where residents aged 15 and older chose among proposals previously discussed in local assemblies. Projects focused on priorities such as water distribution, electrical grid repairs, infrastructure works, healthcare equipment, food production, and cooking gas cylinder replacement. At the same time, senior US military and intelligence officials have presented Trump with updated options for possible operations in Venezuela. The USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group has entered the US Southern Command’s area, joining additional warships, a nuclear submarine and around 10,000 troops deployed since August. International scrutiny has intensified. 📝 INTERVIEW | ‘Fishing Provides for Everyone’: The Palmarito Afro-Descendant Commune On the southern shore of Lake Maracaibo, communards sustain themselves through fishing, but equally through practices of solidarity. Nearly 90% of residents rely on fishing, and in Palmarito, the catch is distributed collectively so that no household is left behind. Fisherfolk organize through councils (CONPPAs), including an all-women council, to manage resources, secure boats and nets, and ensure wealth stays in the community. 🔗 Read the full interview here: https://shorturl.at/kdIT2 #AfroVenezuelans#CommunalandWorkingClassResistance#Communes#Fishing

📝 INTERVIEW | Culture and Resistance: The Palmarito Afro-Descendant Commune Afro-Venezuelan communards on the southern shore region of Lake Maracaibo discuss the intersection of culture and organization. The Chimbánguele drumming cycle around San Benito of Palermo is not only a religious devotion but also a way of learning leadership, collective responsibility, and self-governance. While men lead the drumming, women take part through the Gaita de tambora, using song to tell stories, critique, and celebrate, ensuring their voices are central in the community. Culture here is both memory and organization, a living practice that anchors communal life. 🔗 Read the full interview here: https://shorturl.at/Cy0Yr #AfroVenezuelans#CommunalandWorkingClassResistance#Communes

📝 INTERVIEW | Venezuela’s Communal Project: A Conversation with Ángel Prado Ángel Prado, a founder of El Maizal Commune and Minister of Communes, outlines Venezuela’s communal project as both a response to urgent needs and a long-term path toward socialism. One example is the popular consultations launched in May 2024. Every three months, communes across the country hold assemblies to debate local priorities, vote on a single project, and directly manage the allocated funds. Prado states this process has re-engaged citizens, strengthened trust in grassroots structures, and proven that “an organized pueblo can achieve more than any state institution alone.” 🔗 Read the full interview here: https://shorturl.at/yk0u9 #AngelPrado#Communes#HugoChavez#HugoChavezLegacy
