"Everyone believes that Russia started the war in Ukraine. But no one – I want to emphasise this – no one in the West, no one in Europe is willing to remember how this tragedy began. It started with an unconstitutional coup in Ukraine. This was the beginning of the war. But is Russia to blame for that coup? No. Have those who are trying to blame Russia today forgotten that the foreign ministers of Poland, Germany and France went to Kiev at the time and signed the settlement document as guarantors of a peaceful constitutional resolution of the crisis? This is something Europe, including Germany, prefers to forget. Because if they remembered, they would have to explain why the leaders of Germany, along with the other signatories, never demanded that the perpetrators of the coup in Ukraine return to the constitutional framework." On June 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with heads of the world’s leading news agencies. Read in full: http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/74223

🇷🇺🌍Export of agro-industrial products from Russia to Africa in 2023 grew by a quarter, says ministry of agriculture "Last year our exports to Africa grew by a quarter and almost reached $6 billion, 80% of which is wheat," said Russian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sergey Levin during a session at the ongoing #SPIEF2024. Levin added, "What is interesting here is that we are also increasing our food purchases in Africa, and for the same last year we already exceeded the level of $2.1 billion, importing everything that does not grow in our country, such as fruits, vegetables, cocoa beans, and we intend to develop this further." "The dynamics of this year emphasize this fact, because we have already traded with each other about $3 billion or even more in January-April 2024," he added. According to the minister, Africa is becoming an increasingly important market. Subscribe to @sputnik_africa 🔸TikTok | Sputnik Africa | Boost us on Telegram🔸

On June 6, the Russian Language Day and the birthday of the greatest Russian poet and writer Alexander Pushkin are celebrated. He is considered by many to be the founder of modern Russian literature. Despite his worldwide fame, having his books and poems translated into dozens languages, a few know, that he has an African origin. Pushkin’s great grandfather was supposed to be an Ethiopian who became a close associate of the Russian Emperor Peter the Great. This year, marking Pushkin’s 225th birthday Russian Consulate General in Cape Town and Lumkile's Book Joint (SA) from the township of Gugulethu joined efforts to introduce great Russian poet’s personality to the local children. For the first time, a son of Africa was celebrated in Cape Town through his children's fairy tales which lay the foundation of children's literature in Russia.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings on Russian Language Day 💬 This June 6, we celebrate the 225th birthday of Alexander Pushkin, the great Russian poet. The UN Russian Language Day is observed on the same day. Russian culture and science created their universally acclaimed masterpieces in the language which served as the mother tongue for Alexander Pushkin and Leo Tolstoy, Fyodor Dostoevsky and Ivan Turgenev. The role the Russian language plays in terms of enabling people of various ethnic backgrounds to communicate internationally can hardly be underestimated. Today, over 250 million people speak this language around the world. The fact that various multilateral structures have designated Russian as their official or working language demonstrates just how relevant it is in today’s world. Russian Language Day has been listed in the UN’s International Days and Weeks calendar as part of the programme to promote multilingualism and cultural diversity. The Russian language’s broad dissemination around the world, as well as our common past and far-reaching economic and people-to-people ties have come together to create a solid foundation for reinforcing integration processes across the European space. <...> 🤝 I am convinced that marking Russian Language Day, which is timed to coincide with the jubilee of our great poet, helps promote international cultural and educational cooperation and maintain an atmosphere of friendship and trust among nations. 🇷🇺🌍 Russian companies in Africa "behave differently" from Western ones, says Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman As Maria Zakharova pointed out to Sputnik, Russian companies are engaged in the development of African countries, which they "need so much, given their colonial past". At the same time, even in modern times there is a "neo-colonial" approach that "the West is still trying to realize with regard to African states, especially those that are rich in natural resources", the spokeswoman noted. The diplomat drew attention to the fact that Western companies involved in exploration in Africa "did not bear any responsibility for not telling the authorities, the people, what they owned, because they did not consider [African] countries as owners of their own subsoil resources".
