📚🇧🇷🇷🇺🇮🇳🇨🇳🇿🇦 Academic Seminar within the IX BRICS Competition Conference On 12 September 2025, the Faculty of Law at the University of Cape Town hosted the seminar “Emerging Challenges of Competition Law and Policy in the BRICS and Beyond”, organized with the support of the BRICS International Centre for Competition Law and Policy. The seminar was attended by scholars and representatives of competition authorities from BRICS countries. Discussions addressed current issues of competition law — from the development of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to the regulation of the global grain trade. The BRICS International Centre for Competition Law and Policy at HSE University presented its paper “From Farm to Futures”, prepared jointly with BRICS regulators within the Working Group on Food Markets. The paper proposed approaches aimed at strengthening food security and improving coordination among regulatory authorities. 📚🇧🇷🇷🇺🇮🇳🇨🇳🇿🇦 Академический семинар в рамках IX Конференции БРИКС по конкуренции 12 сентября 2025 года на юридическом факультете Университета Кейптауна состоялся семинар «Новые вызовы в области конкурентного права и политики в странах БРИКС и за их пределами», организованный при содействии Международного центра конкурентного права и политики БРИКС. В мероприятии приняли участие учёные и представители антимонопольных органов стран БРИКС. В ходе обсуждений рассматривались актуальные вопросы конкурентного права — от развития Африканской континентальной зоны свободной торговли (AfCFTA) до регулирования мировой торговли зерном. Международный центр конкурентного права и политики БРИКС НИУ ВШЭ представил доклад «От фермы к фьючерсам», подготовленный совместно с регуляторами стран объединения в рамках Рабочей группы БРИКС по продовольственным рынкам. 📍 Rio de Janeiro, 6–7 July 2025 📄BRICS Summit Declaration Highlights the Role of the G20 in Strengthening Global South Cooperation The Leader’s Declaration adopted at the XVII BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro (6–7 July 2025), titled “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for a More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance”, placed particular emphasis on the importance of coordinated engagement within the Group of Twenty (G20) as the premier forum for international economic cooperation. The document reaffirms the commitment of BRICS countries to promoting a more equitable and representative global economic governance architecture through sustained interaction and dialogue within the G20 framework: 🔹 “We underscore the key role of the G20 as the premier global forum for international economic cooperation that provides a platform for dialogue of both developed and emerging economies on an equal and mutually beneficial footing for jointly seeking shared solutions to global challenges and fostering multipolar world.” 🔹 “We recognize the importance of the continued and productive functioning of the G20, based on consensus and with a focus on result-oriented outcomes.” 🔹 “We reiterate our strong support to the South African presidency and look forward to the successful hosting of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg in November 2025 under the South African Presidency and reaffirm our willingness to coordinate positions in order to enhance inclusiveness and amplify the voice of the Global South in the global economic governance system so it adequately reflects EMDEs’ rising weight in the global economy and further integrate their priorities in the G20 agenda through the consecutive G20 presidencies of BRICS member states – Indonesia, India, Brazil and South Africa – during 2022–2025 and beyond.” 🔹 “We salute strengthening of the EMDEs’ voice in the G20 through the accession of the African Union during India’s presidency of G20 in 2023 and the invitation of the NDB during Brazilian and South African presidencies including by their closer interaction and alignment.” #BRICS2025

#BRICS2024🤝#BRICS2025 🔨 Following the final, fifth BRICS Sherpas/Sous Sherpas Meeting under Russia's Chairship, Russia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sherpa in BRICS Sergey Ryabkov passed a symbolic baton in the form of the chair's hammer (made by the famous master craftsmen from the Urals) to the Head of the Brazilian delegation Ambassador Eduardo Paes Saboia in gesture of passing the Chairship in BRICS to Brazil.

📄XVI BRICS Summit Kazan Declaration 📍 Kazan, Russia, October 23, 2024 Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security ✍️ We reiterate the importance of further enhancing BRICS solidarity and cooperation based on our mutual interests and key priorities and further strengthening our strategic partnership. We reaffirm our commitment to the BRICS spirit of mutual respect and understanding, sovereign equality, solidarity, democracy, openness, inclusiveness, collaboration and consensus. As we build upon 16 years of BRICS Summits, we further commit ourselves to strengthening cooperation in the expanded BRICS under the three pillars: ✅ political and security; ✅ economic and financial; ✅ cultural and people-to-people cooperation; and to enhancing our strategic partnership for the benefit of our people through the promotion of peace, a more representative, fairer international order, a reinvigorated and reformed multilateral system, sustainable development and inclusive growth. We welcome the considerable interest by countries of the Global South in BRICS and we endorse the Modalities of BRICS Partner Country Category.
