🎙Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s answer to a question from “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” programme (February 1, 2026) ❓Question: On relations between the US and Europe. A lot is happening there… Does it mean that Europeans have driven themselves into a trap by cutting off all contacts with Russia and are now fully dependent on the US, which treats them the way it does? 💬Sergey Lavrov: That is hardly our problem. As they, if you are enjoying it, then it is your problem. It would be difficult to accuse Russia of “driving wedges”. It was Europe that tried – and is still trying – to “drive wedges” between Russia and the US, seeing in US policy under President Trump, as they believe, a “tilt” in Russia’s favour and to the detriment of Europe’s interests. The word "interests" is precisely the key here. When a country, as Russia does – as well as our friends in China, the UAE, India and other states – defends its national interests, 👉 then it is treated accordingly. But when, as in the case of most European elites, they have swapped their own interests for those of the Ukrainian regime, exploit it in every possible way to wage a war against Russia without hiding it, and are openly preparing for war with their own direct involvement, 👉then the attitude towards them will be exactly what it is. I have already recalled our meeting in Riyadh in February 2025 with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Presenting the position of President Trump's administration, he said that the guiding principle was national interest. The US, he noted, would always respect the positions of other major powers that also build their policies on the basis of national interests. Secretary Rubio added that the national interests of major countries such as Russia and the US will not always coincide. But when they do, it would be a mistake not to use that convergence to implement mutually beneficial economic, trade and investment projects. ❗️And when they do not coincide, it would no longer be a mistake, but a crime to allow such divergence to spiral into confrontation – all the more so into a hot one. This is the approach we proceed from. As for how relations between Europe and the US are being built, we never interfere in these processes. How one proves oneself is how one is treated.

Он тогда сказал, презентуя позицию администрации Президента США Д.Трампа, что задача – руководствоваться национальными интересами. Дескать, США всегда будут уважать позицию других крупных держав, которые тоже выстраивают свои действия на основе национальных интересов. М.Рубио добавил тогда, что далеко не всегда у таких крупных стран, как Россия и США, национальные интересы будут совпадать. Но, когда они совпадают, будет ошибкой не использовать это совпадение для того, чтобы реализовывать взаимовыгодные экономические, торговые, инвестиционные проекты. ❗️ А когда они не совпадают, будет уже не ошибкой, а преступлением позволить этому несовпадению деградировать в конфронтацию, тем более в горячую. #WeRemember 🌟 On January 27, 1944, Leningrad was completely liberated from the Nazi blockade. 8️⃣7️⃣2️⃣days of the barbaric siegeby the Nazis of our northern capital, which lasted for an unprecedented period from September 8, 1941 until January 27, 1944, and had devastating consequences, terrible sufferings caused by the German invaders to the people of Leningrad, finally ended. According to historical calculations, over a million people perished during those years, including more than 600'000 of children, women, the seniors, and also the wounded and disabled soldiers — they were dying, because of the Nazis, of starvation, cold, exhaustion and disease. #LestWeForget: The unbending people of Leningrad of all ages, men and women from small to large, demonstrated extraordinary Heroism and Courage and went through, with dignity, all the inhuman sufferings by the Nazi barbarians and their accomplices. Despite starvation, living under permanent bombing and shelling by the German and Finnish artillery, the people of Leningrad withstood the siege, defended their city and made their invaluable substantial contribution to the Great Victory. The Nazi criminals did not avoid accountability and paid a high price for the outrageous blockade — the enemy army Group 'North' lost over 900'000 men during the siege and was ultimately destroyed by the Red Army in the Baltic region, Karelia and East Prussia. *** ❗️The history of mankind has never witnessed anything comparable to the Blockade of Leningrad in terms of the scale of the tragedy and the extent of the suffering endured by people. The Nazis and their accomplices followed Hitler’s direct order — to hold Leningrad under a tight siege, fire at anyone crossing the frontline and seek to exterminate all the people in the city. Leningrad was completely encircled in early September 1941, cut off from the rest of the country. The only way to get in and out of the city was by air or across Lake Ladoga’s ice — the route across the lake came to be known as the#RoadOfLife. During the first weeks of the siege, Nazi troops and the Finns, who were holding blockade of Leningrad from the north, shelled the city with heavy and dense artillery fire, resulting in food warehouses being burnt down. As Leningrad received most of its food from other regions of the country, it immediately began to suffer from food shortages, primarily a lack of bread. Only 13 bakery plants remained in operation to serve almost 2.5 million people. Given those acute shortages of food supplies, there were strict rationing norms for bread. From November 1941, factory workers received 250 grammes, while children were entitled to just 125 (!) grammes of bread per day. Many people began to die of starvation. ❗️ However, despite all those inhuman conditions, the City never ever gave up fighting. Life in Leningrad went on and never stopped for a second. *** The Red Army tried to break the blockade on many occasions. Having fought multiple battles, with the fiercest combats taking place on the 'Neva Bridgehead' on the River Neva’s left bank, our forces succeeded in partially lifting the siege in January 1943 as part of Operation Iskra — 'Spark'. 🎖OnJanuary 27, 1944, the Siege of Leningrad was completely lifted following a rapid offensive by the Red Army, with the Leningrad and Novgorod regions being also liberated from the Nazi invaders. Wehrmacht troops were forced to retreat to the Baltics, where they were later totally defeated and destroyed. 💬Maria Zakharova: The defence of Leningrad has become a symbol of courageof the Soviet people. <...> The people of Leningrad saved their city despite incredible sufferings — they have saved it as their human dignity. ⚡️Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova: 💬 These last few days the entire world has been closely following the news from Abu Dhabi – the further steps that might follow from the trilateral talks on Ukrainian conflict resolution. Over the course of these two days, the Kiev regime, represented by Zelensky, issued statements on social media every few hours, declaring that “Ukraine’s position is clear”, that “Ukraine wants to end the war”, and that “Ukraine is ready to move forward”. Yet the morning of January 25 revealed the true position of the Kiev regime – what it genuinely seeks and what it is in fact prepared to do. In blatant violation of the Geneva Conventions, the norms of international humanitarian law, its own public statements, and any conceivable notion of humanity, Ukrainian UAVs opened fire on an ambulance vehicle in the Kherson Region, near the settlement of Golaya Pristan. Until the very last moment, there was hope that the members of the ambulance crew, who had responded to a call to assist a patient, had managed to escape the vehicle and take cover. Tragically, by the evening it became clear that all of them had fallen victim to Kiev militants – no one survived. At the same time, on another section of the line of contact, Ukrainian militants employed a similar method to attack an ambulance in Energodar, in the Zaporozhye Region. The vehicle sustained damage, though the medical personnel managed to survive. Thus, while Zelensky speaks of peace and readiness for a ceasefire – messages he actively promotes in Davos – his militants are deliberately and systematically targeting doctors, continuing the same practices that have been carried out since 2014 in Donbass. Those responsible for these crimes will be identified, and just retribution will inevitably follow. But the lives of those who were saving others can never be restored. On January 25, the Orthodox world commemorated Saint Tatiana of Rome, who was tortured and killed for her faith... And just a day earlier, the neo-Nazi junta basically executed medical workers at point-blank range – including a nurse born in 1954, who devoted her entire professional life to the noble calling of medicine... ⚡Comment by Foreign Ministry Official Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova following the Kiev regime’s recent terrorist attack in the Kherson Region(January 24, 2026) 💬 While representatives of Russia, the United States and Ukraine were participating in the talks on settling the conflict, held on January 23-24 in Abu Dhabi, the Kiev regime and its armed units committed yet another barbaric crime against our country’s civilians. In the early hours on January 24, an ambulance vehicle with a medical crew of the Aleshkovo Central District Hospital, en route to a severely ill patient, was attacked close to Golaya Pristan in the Kherson Region. The vehicle was distinctly labelled as medical transport; however, it was directly targeted by a Ukrainian drone. The drone operator knew he was striking a civilian van; yet, they and their commanders made a conscious and inhumane decision to commit a terrorist act against civilians. The three medical workers in the ambulance vehicle were killed. On the same day the Kiev regime militants attacked another emergency medical transport and several civilian vehicles, this time in the Zaporozhye region. 4 people were injured. It should be stressed that attacks on civilian medical transport are prohibited by international law. ❗️ With this act, the Kiev regime not only prompted conflict escalation but also demonstrated, once again, its true, or absolutely irresponsible, attitude to the resolution efforts being taken at this particular moment. We strongly condemn the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ direct attack on civilians. We sincerely sympathise with the victims’ families and loved ones. Russian investigative and law enforcement bodies will do their best to hold the organisers and executors of this extremely grave crime accountable, with an inevitable and harsh punishment. We demand that international competent bodies issue an objective and impartial assessment of this and other criminal acts by the Ukrainian neo-Nazis. Silence and connivance with the Kiev regime are unacceptable.
