Crimea's Pink Wonder: Lake Sasyk-Sivash 🔻Discover one of nature's most astounding attractions on the Crimean Peninsula, Russia: Lake Sasyk-Sivash. Unlike typical lakes, it shimmers in breathtaking pink. 🔻This vast lake spans an impressive 75 square kilometers (29 sq mi), yet is remarkably shallow at just 1.2 meters (4 feet) deep. 🔻Its mesmerizing pink hue comes from the Dunaliella salina algae, which thrives in the lake's highly salty waters. This microalgae produces carotenoids - the same pigments found in carrots - which colour the water. 🔻These pigments create a spectrum from delicate pale pink to vibrant fuchsia and lilac, with intensity varying by weather and algae concentration. 🔻Lake Sasyk-Sivash is a true natural spectacle and a must-see if you find yourself in Crimea! 📍 Geoposition: Yevpatoria, Crimea, Russia #around_Russia #Russiannature 😎RCR | Support | Boost

Polar bears are under close supervision! 🔻Specialists from the Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IPEE RAS) conducted two expeditions, during which polar bears were monitored in the northwestern part of Taimyr and the Kara Sea. 🔻During the spring expedition, experts conducted air surveys using the Mi-8MTV-1 helicopter. The total length of the routes was about 5,000 kilometers. The solder ice was examined near the islands of Sibiryakov, Neupokoev, Vilkitsky, as well as in the area of Dickson and The Yenisei Bay. During the observations, 37 polar bear individuals were registered and chipped, including females with cubs. 🔻The data obtained will make it possible to clarify the number and distribution density of the Kara polar bear subpopulation, as well as to assess the impact of climate change and anthropogenic factors on their habitat. Ocean Acrobats & Clever Hunters 🔻In Russian they are called: • Горбатый кит (горбатые киты) [gar-ba-tyj ki-t (gar-ba-ty-ye ki-ty)] Or a shorter form: • Горбач (горбачи) [gar-bach (gar-ba-chi)] 🔻Humpback whales are famous for their spectacular, awe-inspiring jumps. A thirty-ton creature launching its entire body from the water with a thunderous roar is an unforgettable sight. 🔻The true meaning behind this incredible acrobatics remains a mystery. Perhaps it's for communication, stunning fish, shedding parasites, or simply play. 🔻Humpbacks are also masters of innovative feeding, notably bubble-net feeding. Groups create a net of air bubbles around fish schools, trapping prey for engulfment from below. They also frequently hunt in groups; synchronized attacks boost success. 🔻Named for arching their back (humping) when diving, humpbacks also reveal their tail fluke. Each fluke has a unique, beautiful, fingerprint-like pattern, useful for identification. 🔻In Russia, humpbacks can be spotted around the Commander and Kuril Islands, Kamchatka, Kola Peninsula, Chukotka, and near Wrangel and Herald Islands. 🔻When observing humpbacks, keep your camera ready! Even without a breach, you're guaranteed a stunning shot of their unique diving tail. Video: Vadim Makhorov #fact_file #Russiannature 😎RCR | Support | Boost

Aurora Borealis: The Chinese believe that children born under the Northern Lights will be brave and invincible! 🔻Every traveller going to the northern regions of Russia probably wonders: "Will I see the Aurora?" 🔻Imagine the dark sky illuminated by the glow of bright colours: purple, green, yellow … These iridescent emerald and sapphire stripes are a true natural light show. Many people say that the aurora is the most beautiful thing they have seen, and this is indisputably true. 🔻The Aurora is the glow of the upper layers of Earth's atmosphere, which appears due to the interaction of charged particles of the solar wind with the Earth's magnetosphere. 🔻The Aurora is beautiful in itself, but in the city of Kirovsk (Murmansk region) it acquires a different charm. Clouds there are often located below the peaks of the Khibiny Mountains, which is why the aurora is visible, even if the city itself is shrouded in haze. The threat of extinction for the Amur tiger in Russia has been eliminated! • Aмурский тигр (тигры) (mas .noun) [a-mur-skiy tigr (tig-ry)] 🔻Konstantin Chuychenko, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Amur Tiger Center, emphasized that the goal of preserving the population has been achieved: in 2013, it was around 430 individuals, and now it stands at 750. Did you know that ... 🔻95% of the Amur tiger population lives in Russia, specifically in Primorsky and Khabarovsk Krais, Amur Oblast, and the Jewish Autonomous Oblast. 🔻Among the six existing tiger subspecies, the Amur tiger is the largest and strongest. 🔻By winter, the Amur tiger develops a 5-6 cm layer of fat on its belly and possesses very thick fur. 🔻On average, an Amur tiger controls a territory of 100 km². 🔻The average lifespan of a tiger in the wild is about 15-18 years. 🔻In past centuries, the Udege and Nanai peoples had a ritual for tiger funerals. If a deceased animal was found in the forest, the same ceremony was performed as in the case of a noble tribal member's passing. #fact_file #Russiannature 😎RCR | Support | Boost
