We at ODRA are devastated to learn that the Calvert 22 Foundation, which has been publishing the Calvert Journal, was recognized as "undesirable" in Russia for "being a threat to the constitutional order." The Calvert Journal was a great source of inspiration for us in covering the post-Soviet culture and we hope that one day they'd able to resume publication.

What do we know about Yakut contemporary art? ODRA talked to Elena Vasileva, the curator with the Gagarin Center for Culture and Contemporary Art in Yakutsk, and together with Yana Andreish came up with a review of Yakut contemporary art. Yakutia is Russia’s remote Far Eastern region, known for its harsh cold climate. But that did not stop local art scene from burgeoning over the recent years as artists and curators often reflect on national identity and reinterpret traditional motifs and mythologies. 👉Read a text titled 'Russian Art Beyond The Beaten Track: The National Identity. Yakutia' to the end to find a selection of Yakut artists. Here are a few of them: 1 / Ustiniya Dogordurova-Prokopyeva, Energy of Youth 2 / Ien Sur 3 / Dunya Zakharova, Face P.S. Today, an exhibition of Yakut contemporary art opens in Moscow’s MMOMA. 'Save the Laughter for Winter' is curated by Elena Vasileva and Aleksandr Blanar 🥂

ODRA publishes artists' diaries as part of the exhibition 'Game engine free verse', organized by the Distant.gallery and available for exploring. In their diaries, six Russian artists reflect about their mood, understanding of game art and game as a concept of human existence. Diary starts with the thoughts of Ksenia Kononenko; she presents an artwork 'The Line', together with Kirill Makarov. Excerpt from the Ksenia's diary, where she reflects on game art and its difference from the entertainment: I like that it is the only tool in which it is possible for different kinds of mediums to exist without competing for attention, though of course there is the issue of the body... but that is the issue I explore in games as an artistic practice. How do we affect the body? What do we do with the corporeal effects of language that arise from immersion in the play space?
