🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks at the meeting with delegation of the Permanent Committee of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (Perm, May 29, 2025) 💬 Sergey Lavrov: Dear colleagues, dear friends, This is the year when the International Conference of Asian Political Parties commemorates its 25th anniversary. And because of their reputation and their authority, they are a platform for exchanging views and experience in the context of party-to-party cooperation. Cooperation at this level is one of our priorities. It's a very useful addition to the so-called classical diplomacy and that contributes a lot to promoting mutual trust, mutual understanding between peoples. The creation of the conference is a signal, a very clear signal to the entire world. And very timely response to reconsider the place of the Asian countries in international and global developments. We assess very positively the increase of the political work of your conference. And we see with pleasure the sustainable process of expanding your influence in the continental architecture, in the architecture of regional organizations, some of which are experiencing erosion of their influence, if not degradation, since they abandoned practically all of the key principles of the UN Charter. I have in mind such organizations on our Eurasian continent as the European Union, which became more Euro-Atlantic than Eurasian following NATO. <...> In the last 10-15 years, all these principles including equal and indivisible security, including the statement that no one, be it the country or organization, should prepare to dominate in Europe, all this was abandoned, violated. 🌐 We need Eurasia of course. And by the way, Eurasia is the biggest, the richest continent. The continent which, unlike Africa and Latin America, is home of several world civilizations with thousands and thousands of years of history. <...> #Eurasia is the only continent which doesn't have any universal continental structure, like African Union in Africa, like CELAC in Latin America. We have quite a lot, many integrational movements, organizations which address security issues, like Shanghai Cooperation Organization, #ASEAN, Collective Security Treaty Organization (#CSTO), Commonwealth of Independent States (#CIS) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (#GCC), the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (#SAARC) and there is no umbrella. We are very much in favor of promoting party-to-party dialogue. Our ruling party, United Russia, in cooperation with other parliamentary parties and their fractions is promoting very actively this kind of cooperation. And I will highlight the initiative of United Russia of last year, when they convened a meeting of various parties to consider methods of fighting the new forms of colonialism and neo-colonialism. <...> A movement created on the basis of the conference, which is called "Freedom of Nations". ☝️ The inadmissibility of neo-colonial forms of exploitation is one of the agenda items of the Group of Friends of the UN Charter. Last year, we initiated, through this group, the resolution of the UN Committee on Decolonization. The draft resolution supported by this committee was accepted by the UN General Assembly. <..> A clear majority supported it. The idea is to announce the 14th of December, the day of the adoption of The Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples of 1960, as a date of fighting the new forms of neo-colonialism. Сolonial exploitation was very blunt. Slaves, you know, digging the resources and leaving the countries in very poor condition. If you take the economic system in the world, countries, especially in Africa, mostly produce, they provide natural resources to the western countries We would like to promote the movement to resolve this injustice. Without fighting any country, we never want to isolate any country from cooperation, but cooperation must be based on equal footing, just principles. 🤝 We express our readiness to cooperate with your conference.

🗓On 15–16 February, the delegation of the Russian Ministry of Defence🇷🇺 took part in the regular meeting of the #ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting-Plus Working Group (#ADSOM-Plus WG) in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia🇮🇩. The participants discussed the progress achieved by the seven #ADMM-Plus Experts' Working Groups (EWGs) as well as plans for the next cycle 2024-2027. The Russian delegation briefed the meeting on key threats to regional security and outlined ways towards effective regional defence cooperation. The meeting was also informed on the current progress of Russia's and Myanmar's Co-Chairmanship of the ADMM-Plus EWG on Counter Terrorism and preparations for the multilateral counter-terrorism table-top and field exercises planned for September 2023 in Russia🇷🇺. The meeting reaffirmed readiness of the ADMM-Plus countries to cooperate in all areas of mutual interest. 🇿🇦 This year’s opening meeting of the #G20 Foreign Ministers as part of the debut presidency of South Africa – a friendly country whose stance is in accord with #Russia’s – will take place in Johannesburg on February 20-21, a landmark event not only for Pretoria, but also for the entire African continent, which will host G20 events for the first time. 🇷🇺 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov plans to lead the Russian delegation. It is expected that most of the members of this major economic forum, as well as a wide range of invited states and international organisations, will be represented at a similar level. ☝️ The meeting will open with an address by President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, which will set the general tone for discussing global challenges and threats. The discussion will particularly focus on the international situation, which is alarmingly deteriorating under the impact of the confrontational policy by the neoliberal Western elites. The participants will consider the current integrity and effective functioning of the global economic system. The priorities stated by the South African presidency are designed to encourage economic growth, reduce inequality and imbalances, and ensure equitable access to financing for countries in the Global South. 🤝 The South African presidency theme highlighting “solidarity, equality and sustainability” will provide solid framework for the consultations, essentially continuing in the same vein as its predecessors in 2022-2024 – Indonesia, India and Brazil, all of them Global Majority countries. In particular, this refers to the G20’s significant contribution during this period to strengthening the foundations of the multipolar world and making global economic institutions more democratic in the interests of new non-Western centres of influence, primarily the expanded #BRICS group. ❗️The upcoming anniversaries, such as the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II and the foundation of the #UN, as well as the 65th anniversary of the Russia-sponsored Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples adopted by the UN General Assembly to ensure Africa’s independence, should be seen as key benchmarks for the exchange of views. 👉 In his remarks, the Minister will provide a detailed analysis of the international situation underscoring the root causes of the current crisis, and outline specific steps to overcome the destructive phenomena. The Russian side will reaffirm its stance in favour of preserving the United Nations’ central role in global affairs. We will speak in support of strict compliance with the principles of the UN Charter in their entirety and interconnection. We will insist that there is no alternative to respectful interstate cooperation and ensuring equal and indivisible security for all. We will call for keeping the global economy open, rejecting trade wars, illegitimate sanctions and other unfair competition practices. We will cite examples of supranational associations that practice honest and productive cooperation without diktat or blackmail, such as the #EAEU, the #SCO and #BRICS. We will share the details of implementing the Russia-sponsored Greater Eurasian Partnership initiative.
