Instead of musical instruments, he took up arms. A hero of his city of Donetsk and our post, Viktor Petenko, worked in the local philharmonic. But in February, when mobilisation began, the man and many of his colleagues were drafted. After a month of training, they fought street battles for Mariupol. Now the city is returning to civilian life. Viktor showed a RT Documentary crew the streets and buildings where he fought Ukrainian soldiers. There was a piano in one of the destroyed houses. The musician couldn’t get past it and played it for us. Viktor Petenko is one of the protagonists of our new film about artists who defended Donbass with weapons. #video#Donetsk Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

#video#Mariupol A resident of Mariupol alleges the Azov* Battalion pulled people out of their houses and ushered them into basements. Tanks started firing from everywhere, and no one could lift their head out for four days. He says, ‘the Russians were not even close at the time. This is murder, murder of people. This was done by Azov*. He claims the Ukrainian military herded everyone into the basement. In the destroyed Mariupol, civilians are left without food, water, or medicines. During the shelling, food was brought to them by the Angel humanitarian group led by Alexei Smirnov. They go to the most dangerous places, often narrowly avoiding death on mined roads. An RT Documentary crew filmed the Angels for several days, once coming under fire. This is a clip from our new film Donbass: I'm Alive! The RT Documentary team has returned from Mariupol and collected locals' testimonies. *recognised in Russia as extremist and banned Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

#video#Donetsk ‘We’ve been hiding in the cellar this whole time. There’s an old lady with a walker there and one with crutches here’. In 2014, a woman hurriedly told an RT Documentary film crew she was only going for humanitarian aid. Then in the Donetsk region, there were battles for the city of Ilovaisk. This episode is included in the film Donbass: Summer 2014. The battle for Ilovaisk was the first significant victory of the DPR militia over units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and volunteers. #video#Nigeria “A chicken, the blood and everything, you have to swallow the liver of the chicken. It’s part of the process. You come into Europe, you don’t have a choice, you don’t have a say. It’s obligated, you have to do it.” A former sex slave from Nigeria tells how she, afraid of the voodoo curse, preferred not to testify against her former masters. When a major human trafficking case was uncovered in Europe, ex-slaves who were forced into prostitution refused to testify. An African priest had to save the girls from the curse. #video#Ukraine ‘In all the hospitals… all the vehicles were taken away, and only the ammunition was taken out’. Aleksandr, an employee of a medical institution in Mariupol, said ambulances and food trucks were loaded with shells by the Ukrainian military, and ‘children’ or ‘people’ were written on the vehicles. In addition, they confiscated personal vehicles from the city’s residents. ‘We arrived, instructed the driver, get out of the car’, the man recalls. How the fighting began in the south-east of Ukraine can be seen in our film Donbass: Battle of Debaltsevo. The film tells about the events of the Donbass war that took place in Debaltsevo. This critical strategic point became the centre of fierce fighting between the militias and government troops. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

#video#Russia ‘My opinion on the abolition of culture is straightforward. I think this decision is not only unfair, it’s crazy,’ says Enzo Ginazzi, a well-known Italian singer known as Pupo. He is loved in Russia by the older generation. Since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, Russia has faced unprecedented pressure from the West. In addition to official sanctions, a potent weapon was used against an entire country - the culture of cancellation for the first time. Everything created in Russia for more than 1,500 years is not only being questioned but also harshly criticised and rejected. This is a promo for the film Killing Russian Culture. The entire show is posted here. It is also available in English. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

#video#Donbass ‘These are the textbooks the children were taught by. Shelling again. Here are the textbooks they studied with. They are all in Ukrainian. There is nothing in Russian anymore, only in Ukrainian. They have rewritten Ukrainian history’. An Italian volunteer with the callsign Spartak showed the school destroyed by the Armed Forces of Ukrainiane. According to him, the Ukrainian soldiers used the local Russian-speaking population as a human shield: ‘They said to them: ‘Stay in cellars and be still’. They didn’t give them any water, the people weren’t allowed to go out for food or something to drink’. The man has been fighting for the Donbass for eight years. He sais, that Ukrainian nationalist battalions ‘don’t give a damn about the local residents’. The story of this Italian will be included in the new RT Documentary film about foreign volunteers in the Donbass. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary
