‘Living here is hell.’ In 2021, people in the Lugansk region told reporters they had been living under constant shelling from the Ukrainian military. ‘It was scary because, at any moment, you could lose your life, which has hardly begun’, says schoolgirl Valeria. This is a clip from the film Donbass: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. It’s about the ‘anti-terrorist operation’ in Ukraine, the brutality of neo-Nazi battalions, and what they did to civilians. Today is LPR Constitution Day. Its development and discussion began in a tent camp near the SSU building in Luhansk. The document’s creation was almost a spontaneous idea because there was no time for it: there were Ukrainian troops on the outskirts of the republic. The constitution became the first legislative act of the newly born republic. #video#LPR#Donbass Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

‘Azov came and said: ‘Come to the factory, to the bomb shelter!’. And then they say: 'We're going to die, and all of you will die here with us!'. Michael, a worker at the Azovstal plant, talks about how the Azov fighters lured people to the facility to use them as human shields. Today, when the Ukrainian media call the surrender of nationalists ‘evacuation’, I want to show them this video. And to convey the words of an Azovstal worker, where his colleagues who were held hostage died: ‘They're not human! They must be exterminated! They don't deserve a trial’. This is an interview from our new film. The premiere is coming soon. #video#Ukraine#Mariupol Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

‘Mom always worries about it so it doesn’t hurt’. Oksana is comforted that her son died without pain. He died defending the inhabitants of the LPR from Ukrainian shelling. Oksana lived in Moscow, and when she came to collect her son's body, she decided to stay in the Donbass and become a volunteer: ‘I realized that pain, sorrow and grief are everywhere here. I realized that I need to do something for people’. Her story will be featured in a new RT Documentary film. In the meantime, watch our video about her. #video#LPR Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

‘Then [in 2014] Lugansk plunged completely into full-scale war.’ Rodion Miroshnik (LPR Representative at Donbass Peace Talks) recalls events eight years ago. First, Lugansk refused to recognise the coup d'état in the country; in response, the Ukrainians took up a blockade. For two months, the city lived practically without electricity and communications. Even the water was cut off. The referendum on the region’s independence took place in the context of an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. More than 96% of voters were in favour of sovereignty. Today, the LNR celebrates Republic Day with the status of a republic recognised by Russia for the first time. A flag was hoisted solemnly over the city. Russian singers Denis Maidanov, Rodion Gazmanov and Alexander Sklyar, performed in the centre of Lugansk. For an account of the events of 2014 and how Kiev tried to subdue the region by force, see an excerpt from the documentary Donbass War: Summer 2014. #video#Donbass Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

‘One particular instance where I was a part of a crew that killed a child. It’s like a knife. Every time I talked about it, it’s like, it’s like I feel dagger in my chest’. During the conflicts, drones became a widely used weapon and a reason for many innocent civilian deaths. Watch the memories of an American drone operator in our video. Protests continue in Sri Lanka, despite the imposition of a state of emergency. People are demanding the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Anti-Russian sanctions have exacerbated the economic crisis, and prices in the country have skyrocketed. The cost of basic foodstuffs has more than doubled. Locals queue up for paraffin. They need fuel to cook food. The ‘hottest’ point of the protests is near the secretariat of the head of state. A tent camp was set up there. People have travelled from all over the country. Among the protesters is Mahindi Siri, a 40-year-old Special Forces soldier. He lost a leg after being blown up by a landmine while fighting in the north. The war ended 13 years ago. He never imagined he would have to count every rupee to survive. This footage was shot by an RT Documentary team in Sri Lanka, making a new film about how the country is coping with the economic crisis. It’s premiering soon. #video#SriLanka Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary
