@RusEmbMalta Press release President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the development of the Arctic region (Eastern Economic Forum, Vladivostok, September 5, 2024) Key points: 🔹 We will continue to boost the freight traffic, including by developing actively Arctic deposits, rerouting cargo flows from west to east, and expanding the transit. 🔹 The large-scale plan for the development of the Northern Sea Route is currently being implemented. We are building icebreakers, expanding our satellite cluster in orbit, strengthening the coastal infrastructure, and upgrading the network of emergency and rescue centres. 🔹 The capacity of Russian ports within the limits of the Northern Sea Route exceeded 40 million tonnes at the end of last year. Key points: 🔹 The development of the Far East will remain a national priority throughout the 21st century. 🔹Since 2013, Russia has been implementing a strategic programme of comprehensive development for the Far East. 🔹 Over the past ten years, the Trans-Siberian Railway and the Baikal – Amur Mainline (BAM) have seen over 2,000 km of new track built and over 5,000 km renovated. Over a hundred bridges and tunnels were built or restored. 🔹 A 10,000-km motorway corridor between St Petersburg and Vladivostok is to become a major artery for the entire continent. 🔹 Population growth serves as one of the main indicators confirming the successful development of the Far East. Over the years, the Forum has contributed significantly to the development of constructive economic ties between our country and other states in the Asia-Pacific region. A direct, informal communication that occurs here between Russian entrepreneurs and their foreign counterparts, government agencies, social organisations, and the expert community makes it possible for us to discuss many topical issues on the regional agenda and develop beneficial projects together, a fact reflected in the forum’s slogan this year, ‘Far East 2030. Combining Strengths to Create New Potential’. The influence of the Asia-Pacific region in international affairs is growing fast. New opportunities for productive cooperation are opening up here, including within such authoritative multilateral structures as the Eurasian Economic Community, the #SCO, and #BRICS.
