@RusEmbMalta Press release Sergey Lavrov: Europe Is Now the Main Obstacle to Peace – While Russia and the US Search for Real Solutions 📍 Key points from Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s interview with TASS 28 December 2025 🇷🇺Russia on Peace in Ukraine Russia welcomes and supports the peace efforts of US President Donald Trump and his administration and remains committed to serious, substantive dialogue aimed at resolving the root causes of the conflict. “Russia is ready to work with American negotiators to achieve lasting agreements.” At the same time, Kiev and its European curators continue to sabotage the peace process: • Kiev persists in military escalation • Civilian infrastructure in Russia is targeted • European capitals continue pumping the regime with weapons and money After the change of administration in Washington, it is now Europe – not the US – that has become the main obstacle to peace. 💶Europe’s Strategy: Prolong the Conflict European leaders openly admit they are preparing for confrontation with Russia. They continue pursuing: • Economic war • Attempts to confiscate Russia’s assets • Efforts to impose a strategic defeat on Russia Meanwhile, corruption scandals in Ukraine are conveniently ignored. “Europe is using the Kiev regime as a battering ram against Russia.” Russia–US Relations: A Window for Normalisation The new US National Security Strategy no longer treats Russia as an immediate threat and does not call for system-wide containment. It also publicly questions NATO’s long-standing policy of expansionism – for the first time in decades. Russia notes these shifts but stresses: Judgments will be based on actions, not declarations. 🌍Europe on the Brink of a Dangerous Course The EU has been dismantling its mechanisms of cooperation with Russia since 2014, promoting militarism and Russophobia. European leaders are now discussing the possible deployment of troops to Ukraine. Russia warns: Any foreign military forces in Ukraine would be considered legitimate targets. Russia poses no threat to Europe – but any attack on Russia will meet a devastating response. Middle East: Law, Not Force Russia strongly condemns Israel’s strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities conducted with US participation. These actions violate international law and basic moral principles. In Gaza, the situation remains fragile: ceasefire violations, humanitarian restrictions, and unresolved political questions continue to threaten stability. Russia reaffirms: A viable Palestinian state is essential for lasting peace. 🌏Asia-Pacific: Taiwan and Regional Stability Russia’s position is clear and unchanged: • Taiwan is an integral part of China • Russia firmly supports China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity • Any interference is a dangerous destabilising factor The growing militarisation of Japan is also raising serious concerns for regional stability. 🧭Strategic Message Peace requires responsibility. Escalation is a choice. Dialogue remains the only path forward. 🔗 Full text of the interview. #Russia#PeaceProcess#Ukraine#Europe#InternationalLaw#MiddleEast#AsiaPacific🕊️

@RusEmbMalta Press release 🇷🇺President Vladimir Putin Summarises 2025: Key Messages from the “Results of the Year” Address 📍Moscow, | 19 December 2025 President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin held the annual “Results of the Year” event, combining a live Q&A session with a press conference. More than 3 million questions were submitted by citizens and journalists. Over 4.5 hours, the President addressed 103 questions on domestic development, the economy, social policy, digital sovereignty, and international affairs. 🌍Foreign Policy, Ukraine, and the Special Military Operation ▪️ Russia currently sees no readiness on the part of Ukraine for a genuine peace process or territorial compromises. ▪️ The strategic initiative has fully shifted to the Russian Armed Forces; Ukrainian forces are retreating along key directions. ▪️ Russia did not initiate the conflict and does not consider itself responsible for the human losses incurred. ▪️ Moscow remains open to political solutions and is prepared to consider security guarantees during potential elections in Ukraine, including a temporary refusal to conduct strikes deep inside Ukrainian territory. Relations with the West and International Security ▪️ The seizure of Russian sovereign assets was described as outright plunder, undermining trust in the eurozone and global financial institutions. ▪️ Any attempt to blockade the Kaliningrad region would escalate tensions to an unprecedented, potentially large-scale military level. ▪️ Russia remains open to cooperation with Europe, the UK, and the United States – strictly on the basis of equality and mutual respect. ▪️ According to the President, the current conflict is the direct result of Western policies that deliberately escalated tensions around Ukraine. 📊Economy and Financial Stability ▪️ Russia’s GDP growth reached 1% in 2025, while cumulative growth over the past three years amounted to 9.7%, significantly exceeding eurozone indicators. ▪️ Inflation is expected to decline to 5.7–5.8% by year-end. ▪️ Unemployment fell to a historic low of 2.2%. ▪️ International reserves of the Central Bank reached USD 741.5 billion. 💻Digital Sovereignty President Putin announced that Russia has effectively achieved full digital sovereignty, highlighting the development of domestic digital platforms and technologies as a strategic achievement amid external pressure. Other Key Issues The discussion also covered demographic policy, education, water supply challenges in Donbass, legislation on foreign agents, and sanctions pressure on Russia’s international partners. 🔗Full version here. #Russia🇷🇺 #PresidentPutin #ResultsOfTheYear #ForeignPolicy #Ukraine #SMO #InternationalRelations

@RusEmbMalta Press release 🇷🇺🎙️President Vladimir Putin’s Answers to Media Questions Following the State Visit to Kyrgyzstan and the CSTO Summit Bishkek, 27 November 2025 The President of Russia commented on the outcome of discussions held in Bishkek, addressing the current negotiation track with the United States, the military situation in Ukraine, and broader international issues. 🔹On the draft “peace treaty” The President underlined that there was no draft treaty as such – only a set of issues proposed for discussion and subsequent formalisation. Prior to his visit to the United States, including the trip to Alaska, these matters were examined with American negotiators. It was in the course of those consultations that a detailed list of potential understandings was shaped and later passed to Russia through established channels, after which it was carefully reviewed. 🔹On the negotiation process President emphasized that it is necessary to sit down and discuss specific elements seriously, translating all positions into diplomatic language. Russia has never planned and does not intend to “attack Europe” – “this sounds ridiculous to us” – but if partners want this formalized in writing, Russia is ready to do so. The President confirmed that Russia is fully prepared for substantive discussion. An American delegation is expected to arrive in Moscow next week. Russian negotiators are led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From the Presidential Administration, Aide to the President Vladimir Medinsky continues to oversee the process from the outset, while Aide Yury Ushakov has also been instructed to coordinate the ongoing work and maintain contact with U.S. counterparts. 🔹On the situation in Ukraine Ukrainian forces must withdraw from the territories they occupy – only then will hostilities cease. If they do not withdraw, Russia will achieve this militarily. Across all sectors of the front, the President noted a positive dynamic. Moreover, the pace of advance by Russian forces is increasing significantly. The main problem for the Ukrainian military, according to the President, is the growing gap between losses and the number of troops they are capable of sending to the line of contact. In October alone, Ukraine suffered 47,500 losses, while mobilization yielded only around 16,500, with a further 14,500–15,000 returning from hospitals. The monthly deficit is therefore around 15,000, following a deficit of 10,000 the previous month. This gap continues to widen. High levels of desertion in the Ukrainian forces are reported not only by Russian sources but also by Western media, which the President stressed is impossible for Kiev’s partners to conceal. 🔹On the EU initiative for asset confiscation Hungary, as an EU member state, is fully aware of the consequences. The Hungarian Prime Minister, the President noted, understands how such actions would affect the European currency. Any move to confiscate Russian assets will have serious negative consequences for the global financial system, sharply reducing trust in the eurozone. This comes at a time when the locomotive of the European economy – Germany – has been in recession for the third consecutive year. 🔹On the Ukrainian leadership and legitimacy Signing documents with the current Ukrainian leadership is, in the President’s words, meaningless. He reiterated that Kiev committed a fundamental strategic mistake by refusing to hold presidential elections, leading to the loss of legitimacy. Russia itself, despite being in an armed conflict, held presidential elections as well as municipal and regional elections – “we do all this, and they, for some reason, do not”. Russia ultimately seeks to reach an agreement with Ukraine, but at present this is legally impossible. Whoever in Kiev is willing or able to negotiate may do so – but Russia needs its decisions to be recognized by the principal international actors. 📄Full text. #Russia#Putin#CSTO#Bishkek#Ukraine🇷🇺🌍

@RusEmbMalta Press Release Key Points from Minister Sergey Lavrov’s Full Responses to Corriere della Sera Moscow — 13 November 2025 The MFA has published the complete answers given by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Corriere della Sera, which refused to print the interview without cuts. 🔹Anchorage & Prospects for Peace Anchorage became a genuine step toward a just and lasting settlement. Russia accepted the US-proposed concept for negotiations based on security and territorial realities. Moscow is ready for a Putin–Trump summit in Budapest – if it proceeds from the Anchorage understandings. Assertions that “Russia is not ready for talks” are false and stem from Western media distortions. 🔹On the Special Military Operation Russia’s objective is to protect millions whose identity and language were curtailed by the Kiev authorities. Moscow seeks to prevent NATO from turning Ukraine into an anti-Russian military bridgehead. Russian forces strike only military targets, avoiding civilian casualties. 🔹On Losses Publishing detailed battlefield statistics is not customary. Russia transferred over 9,000 bodies of Ukrainian personnel this year, while receiving 143 of its own – “draw your own conclusions.” 🔹On Ukraine’s Future Status Russia insists on Ukraine’s neutral, non-aligned, non-nuclear status. Kiev must return to its constitutional obligations on the rights of Russian and other minorities. Europe’s silence about discrimination against “non-indigenous ethnicities” is described as evidence of revived Nazism. 🔹On Western Involvement European governments form a “coalition of the willing” prolonging the conflict to distract their voters from domestic crises. Whether weapons are American or European makes no difference: all are destroyed. 🔹On Relations with Europe The current confrontation was not Russia’s choice. Europe repeatedly followed destructive anti-Russian policies, often against its own interests. When the wave of “Russophobic obsession” fades, Russia will assess whether dialogue is possible. President Putin proposes a new Eurasian security architecture built on equality and non-interference. 🔹On China Russia–China cooperation is a modern, balanced partnership – not a Cold War-style alliance. Claims of Russian “dependence” are misplaced. 🔹On Italy Russia separates nations from governments. Italy’s rapid alignment with policies aimed at Russia’s “strategic defeat” damaged bilateral ties. Cultural cancellations and the rupture of people-to-people contacts contradict Italy’s traditions. If Rome chooses dialogue, Moscow is ready to listen. @RusEmbMalta Press Release 🎙Following the EAEU summit, President of Russia Vladimir Putin answered questions from Russian journalists Minsk, June 27, 2025 #EAEU As for the outcomes of today’s EAEU summit, we are satisfied with the results and have drawn certain conclusions. The President of Belarus has already noted that our development strategy, which was designed to run until this year, is nearing completion. We are considering how to structure our joint efforts moving forward. However, overall, the results of our work cannot but satisfy us. They satisfy all of us. Why? Because the key aggregate indicator of economic performance is the growth rate. In the EAEU, it exceeds the global average. As is known, global growth stands at 3.3 percent. The EAEU’s growth is over 4 percent – significantly higher. In some countries, it is substantially greater, reaching 5 percent or even approaching 6 percent, in my view. This is, among other things, a direct result of our joint efforts, as the very purpose of our work is to eliminate trade and other economic barriers to cooperation. Without exaggeration, this multiplies the potential for economic growth. #Ukraine Regarding the memorandums [Russian and Ukrainian], as expected, there were no surprises. I will not tell you anything surprising, either. These are two absolutely opposing memorandums, but that is precisely why talks are set up and held – to find ways to bring positions closer. The fact that they were diametrically opposed does not seem surprising to me, either. I would not like to go into details, as I believe it would be counterproductive – even harmful – to get ahead of the talks. With regard to what has been achieved so far following the talks, I think you can see it for yourself. Today, if I am not mistaken, another exchange took place… or was it yesterday? Today, right? And this is important. The humanitarian aspect matters because, as diplomats say, it creates conditions for substantive discussions on core issues. We agreed that after completing these exchanges and the humanitarian operation which we proposed – specifically, the transfer of the servicemen’s bodies – we would press ahead with more contacts. We have already handed over more than 6,000 bodies and are ready to transfer nearly 3,000 more, but it is now up to the Ukrainian side to agree to accept the remains of their fallen soldiers. We agreed that after this phase is completed, we would hold the third round of talks. We are ready for it overall. The venue and the time need to be agreed upon. I expect President Erdogan to keep unchanged his supportive stance with regard to this process. We are very grateful to him for that. We stand ready to hold this meeting in Istanbul. As for the exact timeframe, the heads of the negotiating teams from both sides – who remain in constant, direct contact and regularly get on the phone with each other (which, I believe, is a good sign) – are discussing the date for the next meeting. The agenda? In my opinion, the discussion should focus on the memoranda from both sides. #EU#NATO We are planning to cut the defence expenses next year and the year after, as well during the next three years. The Defence Ministry, the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Economic Development have yet to reach the final agreement, still, in general, everybody is thinking along these lines. And Europe is thinking about raising its defence expenses. So, who is getting ready for any aggressive actions, us or them? Yes, we do want to complete the special military operation with the result we need. Certainly. This is what we take into account when planning our defence expenses, not aggressive aspirations against Europe and NATO countries. And we want to decrease the expenses, while they want to increase them. 📄Read in full.

@RusEmbMalta Press release 📄Illegal Actions by the Kiev Regime Targeting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) New report by the Russian Foreign Ministry For years, the Kiev authorities have pursued a systematic campaign against the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) – discriminating against its clergy, persecuting believers, and pressuring them to join the schismatic, state-sponsored Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). This pressure intensified after 2022, as martial law gave rise to an increasingly authoritarian regime marked by censorship, political repression, and attacks on religious freedom. Despite its formal independence from Moscow, the UOC continues to be treated as an enemy. A legal framework has been created to eliminate the Church – from banning its access to the historic Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and imposing sanctions on bishops, to launching over 100 criminal cases against clergy. Dozens have been convicted or stripped of citizenship under vague accusations. The law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada in August 2024 now gives the regime broad powers to ban the UOC outright and seize its property – often based on the most tenuous links to the Russian Orthodox Church. Forceful church takeovers, community re-registration, and open hostility toward believers continue, largely unchecked. 🔇 International bodies, including the UN, remain silent in the face of these grave violations – sending Kiev a dangerous signal of impunity. 📘 The latest report from the Russian Foreign Ministry presents a detailed account of these developments and sheds light on the external influences – particularly from the United States – that have contributed to this crisis. 📎 You can read the full report by the Russian Foreign Ministry on this issue here. #HumanRights#ReligiousFreedom#UOC#Ukraine#ChurchRights#StopReligiousPersecution

@RusEmbMalta Press release 🎙 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks and answers to media questions during a news conference on the outcomes of Russian diplomacy in 2024 (January 14, 2025) *** 💬 FM Sergey #Lavrov: We are living in a historical era of confrontation between those who uphold the fundamental principles of international law <...> which have been formulated, set out and put forth in the most important international document – the UN Charter – and those who are not satisfied with that document, who decided <...> that they could not live in accordance with the wishes of the “political West”, <...> those who oppose multipolarity. President of Russia Vladimir Putin has repeatedly explained the true root causes of the special military operation in Ukraine. We had to begin to repel an attack, a war waged against us by the collective West with the main goal of suppressing competition when Russia re-emerged as its strong rival on the international arena. Their main goal was to weaken our country geopolitically, creating direct military threats to us right on our borders, on Russia’s native territories, <...> in an attempt to slash our strategic potential and devalue it as much as possible. The second reason also has to do with the history of the region, only it was more about the people who have lived on that land for centuries. <...> These people were labelled ‘terrorists’ by the current Ukrainian regime, which came to power through a coup d'etat. And when they refused to accept it, that regime launched an all-out offensive against all things Russian. <...> There has been a revival in efforts to oppose the Western diktat, with emerging economies and new centres of financial power in China, India, ASEAN, the Arab world, and CELAC. This group also includes a resurgent Russia together with its allies from the EAEU, the CIS, and CSTO. This also includes the SCO and #BRICS. The United States does not want to have any competitors anywhere, starting with the energy sector. <...> The United States and its allies have placed sanctions policies at the core of what they do on the international stage, including regarding Russia. This demonstrates their refusal to engage in fair economic competition and their commitment to using unfair, aggressive practices for suppressing their opponents. *** #CollectiveWest The West is intoxicated by its perceived “greatness,” its impunity, and its self-endowed authority to dictate the destinies of peoples worldwide. This reflects arrogance and a disdainful attitude towards the rest of the world. It is yet another brazen assertion that when we speak of “democracy,” it signifies merely one thing – “we do as we please.” <...> It is sheer hypocrisy, dictatorial behaviour, disrespect for the populace. #UN UN Security Council reform is needed. Not all countries that bear special responsibility in the global economy, finance, politics, and military affairs are represented in the UN Security Council. It has been pointed out repeatedly that countries such as India and Brazil have long earned permanent Security Council membership on all counts, as has Africa. #RussiaChina Russia-China partnership is among the key factors in stabilising the international arena and the ongoing processes that are used, among other things, to escalate confrontation and hostility in international affairs, which is what our neighbours from NATO engage in under US guidance. #USA#Ukraine As soon as Donald Trump assumes the presidency and articulates his final stance on Ukrainian matters, we will examine it. <...> The increasing reference to the realities “on the ground” is a development likely to be welcomed. #RussiaSerbia Our relations with Serbia are grounded solely in the interests of the Serbian and Russian peoples, as well as our respective states. Our interests align on the vast majority of issues. These relations are rich with specific agreements and projects, including those in the energy sector, approved by our heads of state, governments, and companies. Read in full. #Outcomes2024

@RusEmbMalta Press release 🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s interview with TASS news agency (December 30, 2024) Key points: #Ukraine#USA • We have not received any official signals [from the USA] regarding a settlement in Ukraine. • We are not happy with the proposals made by members of the Trump team to postpone Ukraine’s admission to NATO for 20 years and to station British and European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine. • What we need is reliable and legally binding agreements that would eliminate the root causes of the conflict and seal a mechanism precluding the possibility of their violation. #RussiaUSA#NATO • We are ready to renew the political dialogue which Washington terminated after the start of the special military operation, if the United States is ready for this. Since it was the Americans who cut it off, it is for them to make the first move. • They [the West] have been long relying on efforts to interfere in the domestic affairs of other countries, including our closest neighbours, as their foreign policy tool. For many years, Washington and its satellites have been acting this way in an effort to deter and contain their geopolitical rivals and do away with any unwanted actors, as confirmed by what happened in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya, Syria, and Ukraine. #Georgia • The developments in Georgia stem from the double standards when caring for democracy and human rights serves as a pretext for overturning election results after even the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights with its tainted reputation recognised the election as being free and fair. Why do they want to change the results? Just because the puppet masters in Washington and Brussels did not find the way people voted there to their liking. • The United States and the European Union are trying to impose a distorted vision on Tbilisi which consists of dividing everyone into those who are with us and those who are against us. Meanwhile, it seems that Georgian authorities have opted for a sovereign policy which meets the country’s national interests. They refuse to act as pawns manipulated by the West in its effort to destabilise Georgia, undermine its economy and incite escalation in its relations with Russia. #Syria#MiddleEast • The Syrians’ hopes for improvements after a convincing defeat of international terrorism, including with the help of Russia’s Aerospace Forces, have not materialised. • Washington, which has effectively occupied the resource-rich north-eastern part of Syria and is putting serious sanctions pressure on Damascus together with a coalition of its satellites, bears a great deal of blame for this. This line for strangling the Syrian economy stirred up social discontent. • Trying to maintain its influence [in the Middle East and North Africa], Washington actively interfered in the internal affairs of Arab countries and aggressively drew new dividing lines there. Iraq and Libya are still trying to clear up the consequences of the Americans and their satellites’ reckless behaviour. #China • The Americans are taking inciting actions in the Taiwan Strait and supplying weapons to Taipei while forging a quasi-political dialogue with the local authorities. • It is clear to us that this policy pursued by Washington in violation of its obligations to Beijing on Taiwan is part of their strategy to step up military and political pressure on the PRC and eventually undermine regional security at the eastern end of the Eurasian continent. • Russia reaffirms its adherence to the #OneChina principle, recognises that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the People’s Republic of China, opposes any form of “Taiwan independence,” and firmly supports China’s measures to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity and achieve national reunification.
