​​💰Gig Economy Workers Are Earning Half What They Did Five Years Ago More people are working for ride-sharing and delivery companies but on average they’re making less. On average, drivers who transport people (#Uber or #Lyft) or things (#UberEats or #Postmates) through an app made 53 percent less in 2017 than they did in 2013, according to a new study by the JPMorgan Chase Institute. The average monthly payments to those who worked for a transportation app in a given month declined to $783 from $1,469. Meanwhile, people working for leasing apps — #Airbnb, Turo, Parklee and other apps that let you rent assets like your home, car or parking space — saw their incomes from those platforms rise 69 percent to $1,736 on average. So much so in fact, that many people no longer see the need to carry or buy a dedicated camera. While professionals and photo enthusiasts will always get better results using high-end cameras and lenses, modern #smartphones take pictures that are easily sufficient for the demands of the average consumer. To the camera and photo equipment industry, the rise of smartphone photography has had devastating effects. ​​🎶Music Industry Streaming Revenues Revenues from streaming #Music grew 28% YoY to $3.4 billion for the first half of 2018. This broad category includes revenues from subscription services (such as paid versions of #Spotify, #AppleMusic, #Amazon, #TIDAL, and others), digital and customized radio services (like #Pandora, #SiriusXM, and other Internet radio), and ad-supported on-demand streaming services (such as #YouTube, #Vevo, and ad-supported Spotify). The overwhelming majority of the industry’s revenue growth during the period came from streaming music. Paid subscriptions have become the biggest format for music by revenue. Year-over-year growth of 33% brought total subscription revenues to $2.5 billion. So ¾ of recording industry revenue came from streaming, and ¾ of that from paid subscriptions. ​​👀Attention Spans: More Selective, Not Shorter Prezi’s State of Attention report suggests that our attention spans are becoming more selective, not shorter, highlighting the importance of relevant and personalised content marketing. A survey of 2,008 full time office workers, found that attention spans have actually increased. Six out of ten respondents say they can give a piece of content their undivided attention without getting distracted, more than they could one year ago. ​​📝Texting is Now Teens’ Favorite Way to Communicate With Friends It’s no surprise that teens today are heavier #SocialMedia users than they used to be: 70% report using social media multiple times a day, about twice the proportion (34%) from 2012. However that doesn’t mean that social media is their preferred way of communicating with friends. Asked to choose between texting, in-person, social media, video-chatting, and talking on the phone, a leading 35% of the more than 1,000 13-17-year-olds surveyed said that texting is their favorite way to communicate with friends.
