‘The Ukrainian forces began to shell heavily… they burnt my house down. They kicked my parents out, they had a 3-storey house. They’re in their 80s.’ Mariupol residents speak of their experience while the city was occupied by Ukraine's Armed Forces. The Ukrainian army left behind destroyed houses and continued shelling buildings even as they retreated. See people's recollections and war correspondents' stories in our premiere - Battle for Mariupol. #premiere#Ukraine#Mariupol Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

‘Isaac is a very fast and intelligent rat. He is good at concentrating on finding TNT.’ In Tanzania, giant hamster rats are trained to be professional bomb disposal experts. They work in minefields in former hotspots. The rodents can easily smell carefully camouflaged explosive devices thanks to their excellent sense of smell. Do you want to see how a bomb-sniffing rat is trained? Then, watch the clip and film Isaac: The Story of a Little Giant. #Tanzania#minefields Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

‘If I never go to international competitions... I won’t be very upset. It is much more important for me that people in the Donbass can finally live a normal life,’ says world powerlifting champion Maryana Naumova. Maryana supports the residents of Donbass. She has been there over 20 times. In 2015, the athlete gave the ex-Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger letters from children from the DPR and LPR. ‘I saw that the assistant somehow took this letter and dragged it somewhere. How it went on, I don’t know, ‘recalls Maryana. The girl says Schwarzenegger apparently never read a single message. Maryana reminded him of these letters a couple of months ago when she recorded a video message in response to his speech on the situation in Ukraine. She said the actor was mistaken: ‘Nazism has no nationality’, ‘Russophobia is no better than anti-Semitism’. See her story in our post and film Killing Russian Culture. #Ukraine#Donbass#Russia Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

Today is International Family Day. In honour of this day, we are talking about Mariam from Uganda. By the age of 41, she had given birth to 44 children. Only 38 survived. She is a single mother and barely makes ends meet. ‘I was left alone with the kids. I can try to save 50,000 shillings, and it takes me a month to do it’, says Mariam. The main thing she wants to do for her children, especially for her daughters, is to educate them to get out of trouble and not follow in her footsteps. Watch her incredible story in our video and film, Mama Uganda. #Uganda#family#humanstories Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

Sri Lankan Mahindi Siri is 40 and a former soldier. He lost his leg 13 years ago when a mine blew him up during a battle in the country’s north. Then there was a civil war with Tamil separatists that ended in 2009. Today, the ex-soldier is forced to count every rupee to survive. Prices have risen sharply, and long queues line up for fuel from early morning. The country is facing an acute economic crisis, in which anti-Russian sanctions have played a part. As a result, riots broke out in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s largest city. Protesters smashed houses and cars and threw sticks and stones at the police. They responded with water cannon and tear gas. As a result of street clashes, nine people were killed, including two police officers, and more than 240 were injured. Mahindi Siri was one of the protesters. His story will be included in a new RT Documentary film about what is happening in Sri Lanka. #SriLanka#crisis#protests Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

‘The crowd surrounded the car. There were more than a dozen of them. The driver was dragged out of the car. They tore the door off and smashed the windows’. Trucking company owner Sergey Gots tells how his drivers are treated in the EU. It is now dangerous on European roads if the truck has a Russian number or symbols. Glasses are broken, wheels are punctured, and awnings and bodywork are slashed. Nevertheless, Russian truckers are trying to stick together to have time to come to each other's rescue. Watch yourself in our video. Many Russians in the West now face russophobia. Russian students are underestimated in European universities, and private and state-owned companies are firing Russians from their jobs. Those speaking Russian can be insulted or even hit. In schools, children are subjected to public censure. See for yourself in the RT Documentary film Russians Cancelled. #Europe#Russia#rt Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

‘We’ll protect our homes no matter what, in any way we can’. With these slogans, militia movements in the Donbass were formed. Today the DNR celebrates Constitution Day. The residents have paid for it in blood, for the right to live in their land and speak their language. The Constitution was adopted during fierce fighting with the Ukrainian army. Many deputies went to the front immediately after the meeting. Our video shows footage of a rally where people were ready to give their lives to secede from Ukraine. This was the beginning of the militia movement in the DNR. Scary, but the words of those who were there turned out to be prophetic. This is a fragment of the film Maidan: Road to War. It was filmed from 2014 to 2022; the directors pieced together the course of events of the last eight years. #Ukraine#Donbass#DNR Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary

A couple from India sued their son and his wife for not having children. They were required to have a child within a year or pay compensation of 50 million rupees (about $650,000). ‘Despite all efforts, our son and his wife caused us moral damage by depriving us of our grandchildren. Society asks us questions about this, causing additional suffering’, said parents. They paid for the son’s wedding and honeymoon, bought them a car and a house, and paid for education. But still haven’t seen any grandchildren in six years. Did you know that parents still arrange more than 70% of marriages in India? Newlyweds marrying for love can be beaten, kidnapped and even killed as parents’ revenge. Learn more about the specialities of Indian family customs in our film Love Commandos. #India#indianfamily Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary
